Called to discuss some options on an exhaust system. Did not get a single answer. Was told to call back when the manager was there and then he never even took the call. I'd honestly give zero stars if at all possible. This place has really gone down hill over the years with no regard for proper customer service. 12/8/25 I dropped off my bmw to have the catalytic converters and o2 sensors replaced, I trailered my own vehicle there instead of paying for a tow because the old converters were completely clogged and not work risking the engine damage. Upon arrival I had zero problems starting the car and unloading it off the trailer and driving it to the back lot and let it idle for 5 minutes while I put all my straps away and went inside to give my info. 12/12/25 I go to pick up the vehicle with full intention of driving it home, I pay $700 cash (I supplied my parts) go out to the car and it's got no power (it's winter maybe batteries dead no big deal) they help me jump the battery's car starts and has a plethora of service lights( abs, service 4x4, parking break malfunction) accompanied by a rough idle. Already knowing I just got ripped off I asked one of the guys outside what all they touched and got " not my problem" in return followed with "we didn't do it" when I referred to the service lights. I went to leave and the vehicle stalled in their parking lot resulting in needing jumped again. I'm now stuck with a tow bill, the $700 I was charged for them to screw up car and a bill with a mechanic fixing their errors. Then I had to ask for a receipt as if it's not common business practice to give a customer a receipt when a bills paid. I brought you a car I was able to unload off a trailer and leave with a car on a flatbed tow truck because it can't even be driven up on a trailer. This is a joke of "service" you guys took $700 from me and left me with an inoperable vehicle. I will be perusing legal action if this issue is not addressed in a timely manor. read more

WARNING!! You DO NOT WANT TO USE THIS PLACE. I called to let them know that my truck was leaking gas. I was told to get a precise estimate that I would need to bring it in. So I brought my truck in and they put it on the racks to look underneath. He diagnosed the problem, gave me a price, said he'd need $300 to start and that I'd have to bring my truck back in two days. When I returned with my truck the price for the repair increased by over 45%, after I pulled into the lot. It went from $450 to over $650 Without any additional diagnosis. When questioned why? (Because they had the vehicle to give an accurate diagnosis) I stated. that I needed to think about the work being done there. He then told me that he didn't want to do it and to go someplace else. Maybe it was because of my skin color ? Maybe because he saw the model of car that was my ride home and decided to increase the price. I'll never know why. I just told him that what he was doing was bad business practice. And I would be leaving a bad Yelp review and also reaching out to the chamber of commerce. read more

Don't go to Velasquez Mufflers! They were recommended by two different auto shops for muffler work, so I entered with a high sense of trust that they knew their stuff. However, right after having the muffler work done and leaving, I noticed my Check Engine Light was on and returned. They said it was nothing they did and suggested starting with a $380 tune-up to see if they could identify the problem (the car was not due for this type of service). If not, they would need to do further work at a very high rate. They even mentioned this same Check Engine light issue had come up with other customers, but it was never related to their work. I knew something wasn't adding up and the next morning I took the car to my long-established and trusted dealer. My Service Manager at the dealership said Velasquez did something to trigger the Check Engine light to come on - there was nothing wrong with the car. He even offered to talk with Velasquez Mufflers to explain what they must have done. The charge to check the car and reset the Check Engine light was $139. I called Velasquez several times. First asking to pay the entire $139 and to talk with my dealer Service Manager about what they must have done to trigger the Check Engine light to come on. They refused to pay or even talk with my Service Manager. Eventually I asked if they would at least split the cost with me. They refused but suggested I could bring the car in at some later date for a "free small service". HAH, as if I'd EVER take it back there for anything! Based on this experience I would never trust them again for service. Even worse is the incredibly bad customer service. Reminds me of an old saying about poor customer service "We don't Care. This is the go to place for muffler repairs, my muffler and exhaust pipes had recently rusted and fell off completely I brought it in and they quickly gave me a quote and explained what the process would look like. They even listened to any request I had on the repair, and after 45 mins my car was finished with a brand new custom exhaust system. Their prices can't be beat either the total was only 50 dollars more than had I ordered all the parts myself. But you are paying that little bit extra for quality, speed, and convenience. My one advice though is to make sure you have any coupons printed out before hand, because they won't accept it off the phone. read more

Velasquez was recommended to me by my mechanic because the car is so old the manufacturer didn't make replacement parts anymore, so it would require a completely custom-fabricated muffler system to be built. I brought my elderly father's car as a walk-in on the Friday before Labor Day weekend, and even though they were short-staffed, they were able to get a completely new muffler system built and installed in a few hours. I truly appreciated being able to deliver the car back to my father with a new muffler system at a fair price...all with a warranty. read more

Was referred to this West Chicago location. Brought in my old 2008 wheelchair converted vehicle because of loud noise in the exhaust system. They were able to repair it with a weld so I didn't need to have parts replaced. Very impressed with the great service here. Highly recommend. They repaired my muffler, did a good job saved me some money. I brought the car back because I thought I needed a wheel alignment, they told me it was the inner and outer tie rods and then they could tell if I need an alignment, so I went with it they are trustworthy. Drove the car for a day, the next day crossing over the intersection my tie rod comes off. I know mistakes happen, seems like this is one of those things that you would triple check but if they pay for my towing and they fixed the car the right way and make sure my tire is not damaged. I will come back and give them four stars. Update: Tow refunded, work done by a better mechanic. Apology accepted, nobody was hurt and I'm glad they stood by their word. read more

We were recommended this place by the owner of Pan Man Welding in Lily Lake, IL who stated this place does great work and seem to be much more reasonable on their prices than some of the standard places like Midas, etc. We took our car here to get our exhaust looked at after it started rumbling very loud. Knowing that the original exhaust was still on the car and 18 years old, we knew it was only a matter of time before "something" went. We stopped in on a Thurs morning around 9:00. At first glance, this place seemed like a dive. The waiting area is rather small and there were people already waiting there for their own cars. There was a small line to what seemed like a small register area, and a woman clerk. She was very friendly and took down all of our information - we just told her to call us when the guys find out what is wrong with our exhaust and give us a few quotes (we didn't want to possibly wait there 2-3 hours in a small, cramped area). Not even 2 hours later by about 11:00, we got a call and our car was done. Just a few pieces of our exhaust system needed to be replaced, and we were quoted what seemed to be a pretty fair price for what was needed (in other words, even with coupons we wouldn't have saved much if anything at say Midas or anywhere else). We talked to one of the mechanics named Oswaldo who was pretty friendly and told us what had happened and what needed to be fixed. The work seemed very good and they didn't seem to sell us anything we didn't need; they could have just as easily replaced the entire exhaust system and charged us $900 and we probably wouldn't have known the difference - again it is 18 years old. However, Oswaldo said many of the other pipes still looked pretty good and just replaced what was actually broken. We are pretty happy with the service we got and would recommend them and use them again. The prices seemed pretty reasonable and we'd also rather give our money to a more "mom and pop type" of shop rather than a big name chain. FINAL NOTE: The next day, we had remembered that our old exhaust/mufflers had some "unique" tips on them - attached to the old mufflers. They were not custom tips per se, but we felt they were worth saving if possible. We went back to Velasquez and spoke to Oswaldo. We were not going to complain at all if our old exhaust/mufflers had already been long lost in the trash. Oswaldo actually took the time not only to retrieve our old mufflers (this was all we were going to ask for, in fact - and we'd just somehow remove the tips ourselves on our own time) but he spent about 10 minutes professionally cutting them off, and even smoothing the metal. This was above and beyond, and we felt the need to mention this. Thank you! read more

I come here for a specific service and as a side mechanic it's laughable what these guys do. They size you up and think you know nothing about cars. I was mobile and didn't have tools for a simple alternator swap on a 3800 motor. Told them I simply need a parts change. I understand it's usually $120. I almost died laughing when the guy told me he might damage my accumulator for the job. that' accumulator has been unplugged for over 10 years and that it might be $450. Was referred to this location from my mechanic to get my muffler fixed. I arrived at 8 a.m. because it said it was their opening time. Nobody arrived until 8:15 which is why they only get 4 stars. Once I was helped at 8:20 the service was awesome. They came and got me once my vehicle was up on the lift and showed me where the problem was, the cost to fix it and the time it'd take to fix. I was out the door in the 45 minutes they advised it would be, and the cost to repair was good. The waiting room is not the best (no working restroom at the time), but they do GREAT WORK at a GOOD price. read more

The people that work there are pretty friendly, but they don't open on time. They put an exhaust on my truck, the abs lines are touching the pipe in one side, the spring for the suspension hits on the other side, and some of the welds are horrible. Waste of $500, go somewhere else. read more

Saturday afternoon, I was transporting a large 9ft diameter tub to a local animal shelter. The straps became undone and the tub fell off my truck across the street from Velasquez Muffler. Being a very large and heavy tub, I struggled mightily to put the tub back in my truck. All the while a crowd developed at Velasquez Muffler to watch the proceedings. NO ONE bothered to offer me assistance and as my labors grew, the laughing and comments from these people across the street started and continued. I consider this behavior from EMPLOYEES at Velasquez Muffler to be both disgusting and reprehensible! After working at this for over an hour in the hot sun (next to heavy traffic), I finally managed to secure the tub back onto my truck and was on my way. This muffler shop was recommended by a friend who is a mechanic. I took a 2002 Toyota Highlander there to get an exhaust leak repaired. They fixed it for less then half of any other estimate. I had a P0420 engine code on a dodge mini van, which turns out to be involved with the catalytic converter. I originally called my local shop in Winfield (Brach's), but the guy told me I should use Velasquez because it would be a lot cheaper. I took his advice and Velasquez Mufflers said they weren't busy and could get my vehicle fixed up for $180. I went over and they got the van right in and indeed put in a new converter for $180. The car then passed the emission test with flying colors. The only flaw was they said it would be a half hour....turned out to be more like an hour and a half...but it was still worth it to me...would come here again. read more

I have used this company two times for my vehicles in the past. They were known for good service and well respected. Unfortunately, they might be under new Management. To make a very long story short and STILL STATE FACTS... I failed my emission test and needed to replace my catalytic converter. The week of Aug 27th, I walked in, spoke with receptionists and asked for the price. I gave her all the info she needed as she proceeded to ask the manager in the garage...$640 was the quote with a $300 downpayment. I agreed and it was set for me to drop off payment Wednesday and drop off truck friday for it to be fixed. Came back Wednesday to let them know ill drop off truck next weekend and confirm the price. The manager was at front desk, i told him my plans but said $680? I asked whats the extra $40 and he "jokingly" said for margaritas/beer. Everything else was downhill from there. Two days latertruck started rattling, took it back, ask could they look at it, someone drove it around and manager or head mechanic said its my suspension. I aksed for a quote and he asked for $30 for quote price. Didn't sou d right to me so i left. Two days later, truck is rattling even worse, called to day ill bring it in, and the next day i was told by manager/head mechanic its my transmission. 1. They never checked my truck to confirm, my boyfriend called and the manage/lead mechanic confirmed he didnt look at it he just assumed or "think" that's what it was, 2. I confronted him about misleading me, he had no real explanation as to why he said it the transmission, and he proceeds yo " i dont even know why you keep bring your car here". I eas do ok g so because it was agreed that he would work on catalytic converter, i trusted them to help me, and I was willing to pay. Moral of the story the manager/lead mechanic made me feel as if he never wanted to help but definitely take advantage of me and my pocketbook read more

I have taken both my cars here about 6 times total in the past year. Full brake job incl rotors and pads were half the price as other quotes. Just had a catalytic converter replaced due too check engine light on. I had est from 2 other shops for over 1000 bucks to do the same job they did for just over 500 and they did an oil change as well. If you want great service and a receptionist that can pull up inflated quotes on a computer, then go to a dealer and pay the premium prices they ask. I have not found any better prices for brakes, mufflers in this area. I also think Tom M is likely a dickhead. It would of have been around 5:20PM when they would of have been done. They said come back another day because they wanted to leave on time.
