Oh boy. I'm sorry Veleros. I I have to be honest... We came in about a month ago, saw that 3 tacos were priced at $14, were told it came with rice and beans. Ok, that sounds filling but still. The best tacos I have ever had were $2 each from a mexican food truck. A bit turned off by the prices, we decided to leave and try it another time. So our server was very nice, professional and l friendly. But: No complimentary chips and salsa. They want you to pay $5 for a small cup. The variety of different micheladas was cool. But none of the food had much flavor at all. Nothing tasted like it had been salted at all. I'm not a huge salt person but a little bit could have gone a long way. We had to wait quite a while before we receieved our appetizer or even any water. We went at lunch time. The lunch menu prices for tacos was the same as the dinner menu. It came with rice, but it did not come with beans like we were told the dinner one did, yet it was still the same price. Basically, the entire experience felt like they were kind of a stingy place. I mean no salsa? We didn't even get any limes with our tacos. $10 for guacamole? It costs maybe $3 to make at home. Everything felt soooooo overpriced and at those prices the food should have been amazing - sadly it wasnt. I don't think we'll be coming back. I'm sorry I'm not trying to be mean. What a hidden gem! Don't blink you may miss it it's next to Homenclature Furniture store. Super friendly service, great atmosphere. Food was unique and elevated from traditional Mexican. We were with our kids who enjoy bean and cheese tacos so we weren't sure if they would be happy but they loved it. My husband and son had the steak which was delicious and I had Barbacoa tacos I could have eaten 10 of them they were so good. My daughter stuck with beans and cheese with rice and ate everything. She enjoyed making her own tacos. We started out with chips and the trio of fresh made salsas yum! We passed on the desserts but we will try the next time they sounded really good. I'd give this place 6 stars if I could. Service was excellent and the server was informative. We were greeted with complimentary flautas. We also ordered the calamari, that came with a delicious smokey sauce. The first cut skirt steak was cooked to perfection (medium rare) and the red snapper was amazing. The menu appears to be priced a little high, but once you get your food.. it is clear that they use high quality ingredients and it's definitely worth the money. Well I was given a recommendation for this place and I am so glad I went. Yea it's a bit pricey but WORTH EVERY CENT! We got three different kinds of tacos, shrimp, al pastor and Barbacoa. Delicious! And the trees leches cake probably the best I've ever had. I will have to resist going here more than three times a week. read more

Fantastic Food. The atmosphere is just okay but the food more that makes up for it. Friendly servers. Absolutely delicious. I had the lobster tacos, my wife had enchiladas. First time visiting. We were there for dinner last Friday night. It is a lovely environment. Our server was fantastic. Menu was great. Chips and salsa were delicious. House margarita was very good. My husband had the lobster tacos that were very good, and tried one barbacoa taco that he thought was wonderful. I had the steak and shrimp dinner that was also terrific. The steak was so tender, came with 4 very large shrimp and grilled peppers and small salad. The sauce was very good. Homemade corn tortillas were on point. The food here was amazing and top quality. Chips and salsa is not complimentary, however, it is delicious. I had the snapper which was amazing. I cleared my whole plate. It paired well with the black beans I added. The dish was great but not 100% filling, I still had room for dessert. I ordered the tres leches cake which I thought was okay. I am used to the simple version and this style was more gourmet. I didn't truly appreciate compote and the cinnamon frosting around it. I think that dish could use readjustment. The only other con was the drink menu. I wasn't interested in the Michelangas (?). A house margarita option would be great. Also, juices and a kids menu would be nice as well. read more

The atmosphere was closer to fine dining than you would have expected. We appreciate great service and loved the complementary taquitas. The guac trio and sangria were a refreshing start. The skirt steak tacos ranked high on our list. The mole covered chicken enchiladas tasted homemade - almost like the Oaxacan mole we've had in the past. Not your typical Mexican fare. Takes a little time to get your dinner but it's only because it is made completely fresh, from scratch. You have to be impressed they opened during the pandemic and did an excellent job with following guidelines. Opted for the recommendations by our server and we very happy with the outcome. We went to the Scherville IN location on day 2 after opening. One and done for us. No chips and salsa unless paid for. Quesafundito was the first red flag. $15 for cheese in in a 4 inch pan with 4 small street Taco shells; literally laughable! Request for more shells, $3.00. Taco dinner had no built in sides and served on the same small shells as appetizer. One disappointment after another at "high end" prices. There are so many other good Mexican restaurants out there to choose from that do things right. We can't imagine this place will survive very long. read more

We celebrated an early Valentine's Day at Valero's today and could not be any happier. The ambiance is nice. Music was not too loud, and restaurant was clean. Our waiter Sammy was great. Very friendly and helpful. The menu items looked so good we probably went overboard considering we were given a starter on the house. We also order chips and salsa and the Guacamole Trio (traditional along with grilled pineapple and pomegranate), and all were fresh and fantastic. For entrees I had chicken enchiladas de mole poblano (incredible) and my valentine ordered skirt steak tacos. Despite the number of appetizers, I managed to clean my plate! My valentine loved her food also and we had ample food to bring home. I can say that the food was prepared and plated to perfection. Is it pricey? Depends on what you order. If you stick to tacos or appetizers, it is comparable to the other decent establishments in Valpo. You simply cannot compare Valero's to the other Mexican places in town. Will NEVER go back again. Way too expensive. They charge you for things you ask for and don't tell you. Ended up paying $18 for chips and salsa. Had 4 adults and they gave us a tiny bowl of chips with about 8 full chips in it. The rest was a bunch of broken cereal like pieces. Asked for another bowl. Same thing. Then asked for another. They charged $3 per bowl of broken chips. Found out on the bill. Expect to pay about $30 per person if you want tacos, beans and rice, not including drink.
