My wife and I ate here for the first time last night. I have to say I am mad that we haven't been here before. Veleros is our new go to. This is not your run of the mill Mexican place. Think way more sublime than that. It has more of a South/Central American thing going on. The food was perfectly executed. I had the special which was the best skirt steak I have ever eaten, accompanied with coconut rice which was out of this world as well as Maduros (sweet plantains). My wife had 3 different tacos: Barbacoa, Mahi, al Pastor. All we're phenomenal. They even have a menu of Micheladas, I mean several different types! The one I had was tamarind, cucumber and other good stuff made with Modelo Negra. Listen, I have traveled all over Latin America and I am not fond of most places in the States. Veleros is at the top of my list and the top of their game. Do not be fooled by is humble appearance or a few reviews that knock the prices. I'd pay plenty more for what I got and will be back often. Do you self a favor and get in there STAT. One more thing, the service was awesome. Nestor is a gem. He is attentive but not overbearing. His recommendations were spot on. One of the best Mexican-cuisine in the Porter area! Let me begin with their drinks Micheladas, Margaritas and Sangrias are the best in town, they have their own twist that other restaurants don't have and that's what makes them so unique and tasteful, they will never disappoint! The appetizers are all delicious they have great guacamole and ceviche! All of the main dishes are flavorful and besides the tasty food and drinks, the waiters are friendly and welcoming they make you feel at home. Went there today for lunch and it was amazing! We were in Valpo for a dress fitting and were looking for a new spot to try out for lunch. So glad I came across this gem. It doesn't look like much from outside but decor was really nice looking inside restaurant. Very clean, everyone had mask on following covid protocol and staff was extremely friendly. We had tropical guacamole with mango and jicama. It was beyond good! I never thought to add fruit to my guacamole but it was delicious. They also offer a strawberry version that I will definitely be back to try another day. We ordered the chicken enchiladas mole, mahi mahi fish tacos as well as el pastor tacos. They were all sooooo good. Tacos came with coconut rice and the enchiladas had regular Mexican rice. I found the Mexican rice didn't have much flavor but the coconut rice was a huge hit with entire party. You could really taste the coconut. To finish off lunch we ordered the tres leche cake and flan. The cake was different than the traditional that I've had before this one was like a milk soaked banana cake with a cinnamon whipped cream frosting and drizzled with strawberry glaze. It was really good. The winner for me though was the flan which I'm usually not a big fan of but this one was to die for. The custard itself was a delicious Carmel flavor sitting on top of Carmel syrup and surrounded by chopped up sugar glazed strawberries. Omg can't wait to have that again. If you are in the area you really should check this place out. You won't be disappointed. read more

WOW! This is definitely upgraded Mexican food. Everything our table had was exceptional. We shared the shrimp ceviche, lobster tacos, asada tacos. Tacos are meaty and very filling. Coconut rice and plantain rice were amazing and a wonderful change from the traditional rice served at most mexican restaurants. The tres leches cake was also delicious and unique, made with banana flavored cake and a cinnamon twist somewhere in it. It is also covered in real strawberry puree. Had carry-out for lunch. We went over the order several times and spelled it out and they still messed it up. After driving back, they demanded the food back that they messed up in order to feed it to their employees. This not only rude, it is unsafe. They weren't very kind or apologetic at all. There was a man playing a guitar at 5 on a Friday. We were looking to get food to go. I couldn't find any thing I eat, just may and veggies. The server suggested the lunch menu which had a streak salad. My husband ordered a salmon dish. I asked if chips were included, he said for 5. My lunch steak salad was 16 and good portions and taste. My husband's salmon was good but no tortillas included. Just rice and a small salad for 24. Taste good but pricey. This was a disappointing experience. Dry, overcooked meat in our tacos, bland flavor and, unfortunately, not nearly enough food on the plates for the price. The tacos are tiny, and the price is like $20-$30/ plate. Also, I had to go to a nearby CVS to use a bathroom because they dont have 1 for the customers. The interior was very nice, as well as the server and my $10 Mojito was pretty good...but nothing special. We wont return here. read more

My husband and I tried this restaurant last weekend and were very impressed with the food and service. We split the house salad which was very fresh, generous and had jicama and a citrus based dressing. We were amazed by the Red Snapper which again was very fresh and delicious with a pretty presentation, served with coconut rice. My husband had a spicy diablo version and I had the garlic style. We have not had snapper this good since we were last in Puerto Vallarta. They currently serve beer and hopefully will have a full liquor license soon. We can't wait to go back and try the Tacos al pastor and Barbacoa. read more

We tried this new restaurant, and loved it so much I felt the need to let everyone know this is worth a visit. We started with a complimentary vegetarian taquito with some sort of slaw and sauce - the flavors were fresh, and we were encouraged this was going to be a great meal. We started with the queso fundido, which came hot with sautéed fresh mushrooms over the top.(You can get it without the mushrooms, but if you like them, they really added to the dish.). My son ordered the mahi tacos, which were fresh, with just the right amount of crunch, yet the flavor of the fish was not overwhelmed by the slaw or sauce. I ordered the al Pastor, and we both agreed it was the winner. Also fresh, bursting with flavor, with juicy, tender pork, and just the right amount of heat. I had enough room to order the churros, which came out piping hot, with a small dish of homemade melted chocolate sauce and a small scoop of vanilla ice cream. They were amazing, especially for those who love fried dough of any kind. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food. We will be back soon! read more
