Velvet easily made it's way into our regular rotation of Bend establishments. The food was exceptional. Basically, you just order one of everything (almost kidding): - duck samosas - prosciutto-wrapped mushrooms (no glutens) - pulled port tacos - baked brie with mango chutney (great if you just want to split one item between you) As for drinks, they know how to make legit cocktails (the menu is extensive) but also perfectly execute you favorites (Negroni, Manhattan, etc.) I also can't think of a visit where we haven't met a new friend or group of friends after a few hours here. read more

Always a good experience at this bar, wonderful bartenders, great drinks, and superb vibes. One thing that really stands out to me is the food and the man behind the food! That being James, he serves amazing and delicious food. I can say 9 out of 10 times the allure for my visit to velvet is to get served up some food by James--it's that good! And not only is the food good but James has an awesome attitude every time I've spoken with him and really adds to the overall experience at this bar. After checking in at our hotel, we made our way downtown and discovered the 3-day Flashback Cruz was in progress and the evening's activity involved 250 classic vehicles cruisin' down Wall Street. On entering we were surprised to find the lounge empty, but shortly after settling in we realized many people were purchasing beverages and bringing them outside to enjoy while watching the Flashback Cruz. We decided to sit on the second level where I ordered a Moscow Mule and my wife a Blue Velvet, both were good but we decided to change drinks in mid happy hour and ordered glasses of a Ravenswood cab/merlot blend on the second round. Upon entering, this place reminded me of an updated version of Jamie Sommers' apartment from the Bionic Woman (circa 1978); hanging plants, rustic furnishes, lots of wood, and stairs. The only thing missing was a fireplace and a brass bed. I was smitten immediately! We sauntered over to the downstairs bar and I ordered an Old Fashioned. We chatted up the bartender about Bend, gay bars, bedtimes, and doormen. She made a damn good cocktail. The lightening in this place was perfect, not too dark, and just bright enough. I'd like to hire the person that did it to do our house. There were tables with stools, and sofas upstairs and down, with plenty of comfy pillows. We were there early and the crowd got younger as the night progressed. The only negative were the young dudes out front smoking up a storm. They had the door open and they were standing less then a foot away from it. The smoke was coming into the bar. I've always liked the name Velvet. My sisters used to have a doll named Velvet,w and they would let me play with her every once and awhile. She had blonde hair that you could adjust length of with a dial on her backside.She had a sister named Cinnamon, another good name for a bar. Highly recommend, the bar, and the doll. read more

I would've liked to give 3.5 stars. The food, andouille sausage skewers and queso fresco, was delicious, but the drinks, which is why we came, were average. I had the rosemary rickey, and my husband had the 805 sazerac. We both had the same reaction after our first sip - it tastes watered down. Admittedly, we're somewhat cocktail snobs, but we weren't fans of nice cocktails in mason jars. We would've preferred less or no ice, less volume with more flavor, and a chilled glass appropriate for the drink. So Bend is rad. I love the mountains and the outdoor adventures and the people that these opportunities attract. I love craft beer and I love drinking it with my bearded brethren, united by our taste for hops and our REI memberships. But sometime I just want a fucking cocktail. Thank god for Velvet. From what I've experienced, this is my favorite place in Bend to get a proper drink, surrounded by people who might have stopped for a shower in between their trip from Mt Bachelor to the bar. The decor is appropriately outdoorsy and utterly Oregon, with oodles of reclaimed wood, antler chandeliers and drinks served in mason jars. The lights are dim and sexy, with music to match. Unlike some other spots in town, Velvet doesn't feel like a small town bar pretending to be a big city club. No, it feels perfectly suited to the people of Bend, when they want to put away the cargo shorts and throw on a nicer shirt. I love it. The beer list is surprisingly small for Bend, but I feel like that's maybe their way of drawing a line in the sand and proclaiming exactly what they want to be. The cocktail list, however, is ample. And with drinks hovering around $8, it's definitely reasonably priced. I had the 805 Sazerac made with Bulleit rye, Angostura bitters, simple syrup and an absinthe rinse. And let me tell you what, it was grrrrrreat. Yeah they serve food. No, I didn't eat any. What's it to ya? Every time I visit Bend I stumble across a place that I insist on checking out on all future trips. Velvet has made that list. I'll see you all soon! read more

This is my first Yelp review. I use the service all the time to find restaurants and bars, but I finally decided to set up an account. I was visiting Bend on business from Portland, and used Yelp to check out restaurants near my hotel. Velvet came up highly rated and was close walking distance, and included a get $20 coupon for $10. I decided to try it. I was traveling alone, on a Thursday night, and so just the upstairs bar was open. However, they had open seating on the first and second floor with a good flow of visitors while i was there. The bar is warm and friendly, and I ended up talking to locals and several other people from various other States. The bartender was engaging, conversational, and easy to look at. She helped me decide what I should drink. Although I did not eat on an empty stomach, the three locals bellied up to the bar next to me were very complimentary of the food. Before the night was over I ended up trying four different vodka drinks on the rocks, and all were very good. My two favorites included the blueberry and hibiscus infused vodka. read more
