From my son: I am very impressed on how good the kids meal is. When I tried a chicken tender, it was delicious! The tender part and the other essential parts of a tender was just right. Google maps takes you to a parking within the building which is about 7$ I think '.. we tried to go around looking for parking outside and a block away but nothing was available . Parking is the major headache with this restaurant. Service was awesome . Quick billing and very quick service .. loved the ambience inside and outside too. So many tables inside and outside to sit and eat . We chose a table outside . Was a bit noisy but was good . They also serve beers and it was good . Food is just super awesome here . Yesterday while in the area, I stopped by Velvet Taco. It had been a minute so I was shocked and excited about the combo. Of course, I jumped on it - 2 tacos, 1 side and a drink for $15! Short version: We had a really enjoyable meal at this Velvet Taco location at the Interlock in West Midtown. The food was delicious and the staff was nice, though they forgot something that came with our order. We're fans of this place. Long version: Velvet Taco is a national chain of American taco / Tex-Mex fast-casual restaurants. It opened its first location in Dallas, Texas in 2011. There are currently three metro Atlanta locations: (1) the original in Buckhead, which opened on September 9, 2019, (2) this one at the Interlock, which opened on June 14, 2021, and (3) an OTP (suburb) location in Dunwoody, which opened on July 1, 2024. In addition to this location, I've been to the Buckhead location. In general, my experiences at both locations were good in terms of food, service, and atmosphere. The environments are casual and fun and this location in particular had a great music playlist. The parking situation at this location isn't great because the attached Interlock garage is expensive and Velvet Taco does not validate. Cheaper parking alternatives include Westside Provisions District across the street and nearby street parking. I was surprised at how good the Spicy Tikka Chicken taco tasted, with tender meat and pretty true Indian flavors. Same goes for the Fried Paneer. The taco recipes here work. The only taco I wouldn't order again is the Slow-roasted Angus Brisket. It was just a bit too rich and dense for me. Also, I don't think we got the cheese-encrusted tortilla that is supposed to come with it and, as mentioned above, they forgot to give us the consome with the Quesa Birria Duo -- those tacos aren't complete without it. Overall, the taco ingredients were fresh and well proportioned, and they did a nice job with the presentation. The dips with blue corn chips were fantastic as well and I recommend them. The drinks were strong and satisfying. Try the hot sauces. Aside from the missing consome, service was good. Everything came out in reasonable time. Interior notes: Single restroom each for men and ladies. The men's room was reasonably clean, but the overhead vent was clogged in dust and badly in need of cleaning. The "Sea Tacos" menu board had fallen off the wall and was partially covered. The light fixture above it was out. The glass door facing 14th Street was dirty. Went to the Velvet Taco last night for the first time, and it was a fantastic experience. The food was amazing - my son and I each had the two taco combos. We both had the spicy tikka chicken taco, then I had the Fish N' Chips taco, and he had the French Dip Taco. For our sides, I had the Elote (more of an esquite, as it is served off the cob) and he had the Red Curry Coconut Queso, and we also got a side of Guac. The food all around was just top notch; the flavors all worked amazing together, and the tacos are large enough that two were more than enough to sate our appetites. On top of all this, the staff were super friendly and helpful. Jasmine took our order and offered suggestions and advice, and could not have been more friendly or professional. There was another young lady whose name I did not catch, who brought us bags and to go boxes when we were finished, and she was also incredibly polite, engaging, and friendly. Some of the tacos are mouth-wateringly amazing and some of them are dry, soggy, or miss the mark, I've got to say. The service is very good overall, but the first time I went, they lost my order in the kitchen (admittedly during peak hours). Every time I go after that, I have to prepare for the off chance my order takes way longer than expected. Their seating in the back is great, where it's cozier and more secluded than the main seating area - main seating is near the ordering station and where they only have high-top seating. They announce orders on the loudspeaker, so even when it's quiet and not during peak hours, any conversations can get jarringly interrupted. Their line for their ordering station is right in the path of any foot traffic for people leaving, or people from the back area heading to pick up their orders - so it can get awkward and people bump into each other, or swivel around each other, and not everyone is paying attention because they're looking at the menu or chatting with others in line. Let me start off by saying this has quickly become one of my favorite taco spots. The variety on the menu is fantastic, and the decor really adds to the charm with its great sense of humor. My son and I popped in Velvet Taco after visiting Puttshack next door, and--although showing quite a bit of promise--missed the mark in important ways. first, the good: decor is hip and fresh, and the store was clean. the joint is well-situated in a popular retail destination at Interlock. we were also helped by a nice gal who put up with my son carrying on about nonsense while we were trying to order lol. The tacos were obviously well thought out with tons of different options, but in the end, didn't deliver taste-wise. our fish taco got served with a mustard-based sauce which, I can say confidently, is the wrong way to go. I intentionally ordered non-spicy items but literally everything--from the guac to the tacos themselves--had too much (what I think was) jalapeño in them. also, we ordered take away and I noticed our food literally sitting on the counter ready to go before it got handed to us, and the food was cold. the folks didn't seem very motivated behind the counter if I'm honest. lots of promise here, but unfortunately, not everything came together. read more
