I can't say much about tattoos, but I bought body jewelry here. I was told the jewelry was surgical steel and real gold (of the ones I bought and had them put in while I was there). This was close to 4 months ago. My belly piercing is so infected right now. I had to take the jewelry out and found it was totally corroding. I've had my belly button pierced for 20 years.. I've never had this issue before. Luckily, I still had my old belly ring and put that one back in. I bought a rook ring there as well and all the little bling jewels on it fell off within a month. I suggest you pass on getting anything pierced here and/or buying any of their overpriced, fake, infection inducing jewelry. read more

HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE! Please do not go here if you are in the market for a piercing. I spent $190 on what I was told was a solid 14k gold belly ring. I told the piercer that I needed to make certain the piece was solid 14k as I've had a belly button piercing that was infected in the past so he would be piercing through scar tissue. After receiving my piercing I walked to my car only to notice that the rhinestone in my $190 piece of jewelry had fallen out! I was so upset. This meant the jewelry would have to be taken out and re-inserted into a fresh wound. Not good. When I went back the piercer refused to refund my money. I either had to choose another piece of jewelry or lose the $190 that I spent. He rudely and angrily put in the new ring which I did not see him sterilize. I would like to save anyone who is thinking of getting a piercing from an experience like the one I had today, it was truly upsetting. read more

This has a prime location on Venice Beach's boardwalk so it has all kinds of people coming in for tattoos, drunkies, full-sleeved veterens, and people just browsing. There is competition with the various other tattoo shops along the boardwalk and when my bf Chucky and I were getting quotes from each of the shops, we decided to stick here because the quality of work was perfect for the price! Neal and Julio were the ones tending the place and were very friendly and helpful, happily making any changes we requested in their drawings. Never come here. This was my first tattoo and I made it clear to him. Being my first tattoo I asked to see his certificate and asked how long he's been tattooing and he laughed and said something like "what are you, the tattoo police" (not word for word). Some of the lines aren't connected all the way, some are thicker than others, shaky lining and the shading is horrible . I even told him you left a gap and he said that's how is supposed to be, I called to try to get a free touch up because the job was so poorly done, I left a message and never got a call back. Of course, I didn't ask my mom so I avoided going to somewhere like Claire's where you have to fill out paper work and such. Walking around Venice with a friend of mine, at the spur of the moment we both decided to get cartilage piercings. No questions asked. Seeing as it was a hole in the wall place in Venice, I figured it would be unsanitary/sketchy. It wasn't! Sterile and new tools every time. The whole process took about 10 minutes for both of us. There wasn't any pain. The only problem is that the piercer didn't really go over aftercare instructions and kind of just pierced us, and we left. Since I've had a previous cartilage piercing I knew how to handle my ear afterwards, but if I hadn't, I'd be completely clueless. Great experience! It was only $20. The guy did it was really nice and really quick and i highly recommend this place if your getting one. It's very clean also so u got nothing to worry about... Based on my pain experience, i didn't feel a lot of pain at all. He told me scale from 1-10 it's most likely 6-7, but for me it feels like 3-4 honestly everyone is different and it depends how you take tolerance in pain. I have a tattoo artist that does my and my husbands work and he works here at Venice Tattoo his name is Angel and he is so RAD! he does clean, professional work. he uses a clean sterile needle every time. as well as being so nice he talks and gets to know you and establish a professional relationship with his clients. we have been going to Angel for over 6 years though he does move a lot he always ends up at Venice Tattoos. The actual place is a little small but its clean and the tattoo artist are very easy going and friendly despite there looks. I also recently just got my nose pierced for a very reasonable price. Pricey- but you're paying for the location. Got tatted here a few months back, and the artist was great. He was PATIENT. When getting a tattoo, you need to make sure you're in love with the stencil, 150% in love with it for obvious reasons. I had him redraw it a few times and place it a few times until I was satisfied. He did a great job and I'm still in love with my tatt! The same artist also did my friends tattoo and he initially forgot to put the apostrophie in the saying he wrote on her- but luckily she caught it so he went back and put it in. Got my first tattoo in (I think) this spot back in the early early 1990s from a guy named Dusty. A little tiny bleeding heart on my bikini line. This was back in the day when no one except rock stars got tattoos. He did such a superb job, and helped my tender 22 year old skin get through it with zero problems. This place is the best! Seriously, it's awesome! As soon as I walked in I was greeted by Dog. I initially just came in for a price quote on a small wrist piece and typically pieces the size I got run for about $100 and he dropped it down to $80. He didn't have anyone in the shop so I made the decision to get the piece done on the spot, I gave him a picture of what I wanted and he began to work on it ASAP. In about 15 minutes he was done with 3 different sizes of the same piece (LOVE LOVE LOVE that he gave me options)! I was digging how smoothly it was all going and then he began to show me all new product (needles etc) fresh in the packages and that made me feel super comfortable and confident!! He's super clean and chill, extremely funny as well! Dog is definitely the best artist I've had and I'm for sure gonna be back for more pieces! THIS PLACE IS THE WORST. My friend and I went in to get a simple tattoo, they didn't check ID's. had us sign a paper, and they wanted to get started. Seemed sketchy off the bat. This artist offered us to get high with him before he started, and offered us alcohol. My friend went first and hers turned out super shitty so I didn't want mine. Got a small tattoo, about the size of a quarter, of a simple equilateral triangle inside a circle (AA symbol) and its shit. The points on the triangle are fat, not sharp, and bleed into the circle. The tattoo I did on myself with a homemade needle is better than the crap I got from this place. Dog was the artist and while he's a nice bloke, he's not a good tattooist. This place sucks!!! Don't go! I went to get a cover-up done, and talked to LUIS. He was very excited about the idea, and quoted me $450 at first. We made an appointment for the following week. When I arrived, he talked to me and said that it would be a lot of work and if I could give him more money. I told him I'm quite broke, but I would be able to pay him $500, total. He agreed, and we started the work. After a few hours he suggested, that I return in 2 weeks, since there was alot of trauma to the skin, and he would feel more comfortable continuing after it was healed. I agreed. Before the two weeks were over, my girlfriend and I when to the studio, to show Louis the healing process. at that point he said it was quite a big tattoo, and if I could pay more money. I told him we agreed on a price and I would not be able to get some 100 more dollars. He insisted, & I agree to give him 50 more, when I will come in for the next session. When I came back to finish the tattoo, he insisted on $100 more. He said if I would not give him $100 more he will not finish the tattoo. I told them that they were out of their minds, and I would not give them more money. After a big discussion with the shop's owner, it was finally agreed upon, that I would come in the following week, bring $60.- and get the tattoo finished. Got my first tattoo here and I will never go back. I wanted to get a realistic looking flower on my back and I showed the tattoo artist the picture and he didn't even use the correct colors nor did he make it look realistic. He messed up on the outline and didn't even say anything. I only found out after I went home and looked closely at the details. My artist (who never got my name nor gave his) was constantly rushing me to put the stencil on and to start the tattoo. I finally blew up & asked him why he was being so rude and awful towards me and he claimed "time is money" - mind you no one had even walked into the place since I had been inside. He also kept saying "all this time will show in the tip" His lines are awful as well, time to go to an actually artist to fix this mess. Seriously the absolute worst. The only thing I remember is he had plugs and the word "oil" tattood on his arm. Do. Not. Go. To. Him. I can't comment on the quality of this shop's tattoos, but I did have the misfortune of getting my septum pierced here. I would not recommend that anyone get a piercing from this shop. After experiencing an inordinate amount of pain, I went to another piercing shop to have them make sure everything was healing properly. The shop informed me that, though it looks good, it was pierced far too low and went through the cartilage of my nose rather than my actual septum where a "septum" piercing is intended to go. Consequently, the healing process is much more painful than it should be and it is going to take much longer. I was told that my piercing may or may not heal and that I will most likely need to take the piercing out completely wait for it to heal and get it re-pierced in the correct spot. Long story short, the $40 I spent on getting my septum pierced was a waste of money and more of a hassle than anything. I recommend to anyone considering getting their septum pierced (or anything pierced for that matter) to take their business elsewhere. read more

I came into Venice Tattoo, just walked in, no appointment. I was immediately greeted and sent over to Rob. Rob is a real cool guy, I showed him what I wanted and he immediately went to work. He spent a good amount of time drawing it out making sure it was right and the size I wanted. This was my first tattoo and I made sure to let him know I was nervous about the pain but he made sure I was comfortable. Also, he was very gentle with the scars in the area and he knew exactly how to tattoo over them. Rob is a great artist, he knew how to work his tools and made the process very painless, throughout it all I was totally calm and comfortable. The tattoo came out totally great! I've been thinking of getting a tattoo for a while, and having just moved to California, thought it'd be a perfect just-got-here-so-I-can-still-do-touristy-things present to myself to get one on Venice Beach. So I picked the first shop I've seen which was Venice Tattoo & Piercing. It was small, but everyone who was working there acknowledged my presence and a guy immediately asked me if they could help me. I told him what I needed and he took me to Travis. They were both very friendly and were joking around with me the entire time. Travis had to redraw my tattoo several times to get something I liked (it was a phrase, so handwriting matters, he's definitely a good artist, judging from other drawings in the sketchbook). The tattoo itself took only 5 minutes and hurt just a little bit. Also, every Saturday, a lady comes by at 11:15 selling tamales for $1.50. They are THE BEST TAMALES I HAVE EVER HAD. I haven't had much Mexican food around LA yet, but I have eaten in many places and trucks up north that are supposed to be authentically Mexican, but their tamales have always disappointed me. Travis and the other guy were really excited for her to come though, so I decided to get one too, and it was so worth it. Wish I got like 4 of them. While Travis was sketching my tattoo, some guy came in and asked for a tattoo of a crack on his head, a la Lil Wayne. They told him it'd look horrible but he was insisting that it would be awesome. The other guy offered to sketch it out on him so he could see how it looked and then he realized that it was, indeed, a very bad idea. I think it speaks well of the place that they weren't going to do anything for money and that sometimes, a tattoo can be a bad idea. Anyway, the place is small, but is clean and professional. Reasonably priced. Don't know if I'll need it, but free touch-ups in case some of the color falls off (it's on my foot, so that's a possibility). Definitely don't look it over for some of the more hipster and popular places. read more
