I should probably preface that I'm not one of Doug/Mike's cronies or anything (because, as you know, some businesses get friends/relatives to bolster their reviews on yelp. Or maybe it's just me, as I'm kind of cynical with businesses that have only a few deceptively high yelp reviews). But I have to say that Doug and Mike were great! One day, I called who ended up being Doug on the other line, and he gave a quote, hassle-free. They came by last Thursday to clean my vent, but realized that there was some issue with the vent that was not up to code (dryer air was blowing air inside our house rather than into the vent and outside our home, which apparently is kind of a big no-no for a variety of reasons). So the guys replaced the vent tube and cleaned up all the lint that had been accumulating behind the dryer since we moved here over 2 years ago, maybe more. Then they learned that the vent was at a hard to reach place (we live on the third and fourth floors of a four-story building, yet the dryer vent didn't go up to the roof, but at the side of the building about 30 feet up with no way to get to it except, well, a 30+ foot ladder), for which they did not have a large enough ladder. So they said they had to come back another day. And so they came back today (the following Monday) with a large enough ladder (that they had to buy for THIS client) and finished the job. After it was all said and done, they stuck with the initial quoted price. I was neither asked to subsidize the cost of the ladder, nor charged for the vent replacement, nor had to pay for their second trip here. They didn't even waver on the price. I was so impressed I felt compelled to pay them more. So I did. A modest amount. I would have paid more if I could have, but it's kinda hard to do so when daycare costs (easily the price of a mortgage) is on my radar for my little seven month old. Anyway, nice, down-to-earth guys. Willing to explain the issue. And hardworking. or as the Yelp rating states: "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" read more

Doug and his associate responded for my request for a quote for a dryer duct cleaning in less than an hour, talked over the issue on the phone soon after, and he came out and fixed the issue (for a very reasonable price) less than 24 hours after I initially contacted him (on a weekend no less!). Also explained my options in the future for maintenance. They'll definitely be the first people I call next time I have issues. read more

These guys are amazing. First off, I got same-day service. I was desperate since we'd moved in to the place only to discover our dryer was inoperable due to exhaust vent issues that were completely not up to code and ridiculous, and at six months pregnant and having just weathered a gas leak, a non-working disposal and sinks and bathtub, I was pretty frazzled. Doug was reassuring and professional. They got here early, got straight to work, explained everything in the process, and despite the extra work it sounded like, they stuck with the original quote and wrote something up for me to give to my landlord to explain the next step. Total professionals, very knowledgeable, prompt, thorough, more than fair, and really nice. I cannot recommend them enough. I can't begin to say how professional and helpful Doug is! He came to check out our dryer vent the same day because I told him I needed someone to come out and check it out ASAP! I messaged Douglas describing my dryer vent and how it needed cleaning. He got back to me right away with a price, but also said to give him a call because he thought he could walk me through it on the phone so that I would not have to pay someone to come out. Since he thought we would be able to do it on our own, we tried and he was right. We were able to do it ourselves. My dryer repairman actually recommended Vent Care to me as one of his other customers told him that they had done a great job for them! Doug and Todd came over and cleaned out the vent in record time! The dryer vent hadn't been cleaned out since the house was built and there was a huge build up. Doug actually fixed the connection to another hose unrelated to the dryer vent as an added bonus with no additional cost! They also cleaned up and disposed of all the lint that was pulled from the dryer vent. The entire cost was extremely reasonable and was the same as what was quoted to me two weeks prior. I found Doug on Yelp - and so glad I did! My old dryer took forever to dry because of some blockage, and my new fancy-pants dryer wouldn't even dry because it had "sensors" that prevented it from operating when it knew there was a hazard. Doug came out from Glendale to West LA on his day off and solved the problem. He charged a reasonable flat fee, and went out of his way to fix the issue, even though part of it had nothing to do with the dryer or the vent. Anyone else would have either abandoned the job saying it was out of scope, or charged me triple for the extra work. Doug definitely is worth the 5 stars. Doug rescued a damsel in distress. September 28, 2013. Afternoon. I awoke to a very heated apartment. I rushed to open all the windows. The heater was on. I didn't know what to do. Very strange. I checked and moved every switch on the thermostat up/down, changing the temperature numbers, right/left on,off, heat, cold, fan, auto, to no avail. The model is approximately 15-18 years old. Model: Maple Chase. I called the Maple Chase company. A recording said the office is closed till Monday! I pulled out the batteries. The heating was still operating! The machine wouldn't turn off! I looked on Yelp for an air conditioning and heating H/VAC company with a good rating. The second on the list was Vent Care. It had excellent ratings. I called. It was the weekend. I was lucky! Doug returned my call. It was his day off. He walked me through the process to get it turned off via the exterior electrical circit There were so many panels and numerous switches to all the building. As luck would have it-he knew what to advise as it is an old building, around the same age as his house. However, the electrical box is not in the apartment, as they were closed up in all the units. That was the usual expected mode of thinking. I sent photographs of it via mobile phone. It took the mobile carrier system twenty minutes to deliver to his mobile phone. We got the electricity turned off so that presently solves the issue. I was so overjoyed. Not to mention my dog. I thanked him for rescuing me. He is ever the gentleman-polite, respectful, and patient. He told me he is the owner of his company. I replied, "Pleased to meet you via the phone, I am the landlady. I live on my property. You saved my building and I. Thank you very, very, much for your assistance. Yelp has progressed from the 'Find a Good Restaurant' to almost any business one can think of. Amazing. read more

I just bought a new washer and dryer - and had them installed ten days ago. Three days ago - after I washed and dried a load - an error message on the dryer said that the vent air flow was blocked. After a couple of frustrating phone calls with Customer Service - much of which was spent on interminable holds - I decided to get the house vents cleaned up - in case that was the real issue - and not the brand new appliances. My son and Doug had been friends for years - so I decided to call him. I had never used his professional services before this. Doug had a full schedule - but fit me in between appointments - and came over within a couple of hours. In about an hour he completely cleaned the ducts. Apparently the vent discharged into the crawl space under the house - and the lint was backing up and clogging a screen mesh intended to deter rodents. Doug cut an opening in the mesh and installed a very attractive cover with louvers to redirect the airflow outside the house - while still protecting the crawl space from rodents. He was prompt, efficient, and courteous. In reading the other reviews - it is clear that he offers the same quality of service to all his customers - not just to the parent of his longtime friend :-) I would not hesitate to use him again - in fact, I plan to have him check the vents in my guest house which also has a washer and dryer installed. read more

I was referred to Doug at Vent Care by an appliance repair company after I described that my dryer wasn't fully heating up. Doug came by on short notice & found that indeed, the vent & the dryer were full of lint and the exhaust had become disconnected under the house. Just have to give a shout out to Doug, the owner and his wonderful assistant (kicking myself for not remembering his name!). They recently cleaned all the dryer vents for my condo building and did a fantastic job. They were on time, worked hard (don't even think they took a lunch break), and got the job done! Ironically enough my unit was the only one they found a problem in. Doug surmised that my vent duct had probably come loose in the wall...somewhere! So he was able to make the repair and did such a good job diagnosing where the problem was that he didn't have to make many cuts in my ceiling at all. The repair is done and I feel much better that the heat from the dryer is actually venting outside now! And man, you should have seen the amount of lint they pulled out of my ceiling. I had Vent Care replace my clothes dryer vent. It was the cheap flexible type and had broken. He replaced it with a hard galvanized vent. The workmanship was excellent. Also, even though it took him a lot longer than he had estimated on the telephone due to the nature of the existing installation, he still charged me what he had quoted, which was very reasonable. The reviews before mine are absolutely "spot on" and my parents and I are so grateful that I found Vent Care and Doug on Yelp. I have been helping my parents with finding folks to repair and renovate their duplex unit for lease. It has been one "learning experience" after another. After a harried call from my mom yesterday afternoon, I had to find someone who could clean a water heater vent that goes up to the roof through some sort of concrete contraption. What?! After a number of calls that didn't go anywhere and a change in my search terms, I found Vent Care. Doug answered the phone. Despite challenges and commitments on his end, he came out after hours to check out what was going on at my parents' place. He found something he had never seen before. But, he assessed the situation and fixed it quite easily. Unfortunately, another unrelated problem arose. Based on other experiences, I think another service provider would have left my parents to fend for themselves. Not Doug. He spent an hour and a half going to three different plumbing supply stores in search for a part today. I ended up having to call GE for it. Doug and his team eat lint for breakfast! He was right on time, and did an unbelievably thorough job. He didn't even shame me when it became clear that I damn near set fire to my home and the rest of the neighborhood with it. He problem-solved the safest, and most aesthetic solution, creating an entirely new venting system from scratch. Small details were given the same care as the main job, and he carefully closed up shoddily-built old openings to the crawlspace that had nothing to do with the vent system. He vacuumed out the entire dryer unit, identified the damaged gaskets, showed me how to disassemble/reassemble the unit once I found the parts. This morning, I did just as he demonstrated, and guess what? Dryer is safe as can be, functioning better than ever, and my wife thinks I'm the world's greatest handyman. Doug stuck with his original estimate even though he ended up addressing tons of little details that took some extra time and effort to make just right. He & his assistant were super-friendly, respectful, dependable, and went above & beyond to make sure my family and I will be safe and fresh-smelling for the forseeable future.
