I recently had a deeply disappointing experience at Vera Nails, and I feel compelled to share my feelings, as this situation left me feeling disrespected and almost discriminated against. I walked in with my boyfriend, and we were initially assured that we could both receive manicures and pedicures. However, after the technician began working on my feet, she abruptly informed me that I would need to postpone my manicure due to a scheduled appointment she had overlooked. It became clear that they knew I wouldn't be able to get these services, yet they still began my treatment, which felt like a tactic to secure my payment upfront. To make matters worse, she stated that no one else was available to do my nails, while my boyfriend was able to continue his services without issue. It's incredibly frustrating to be told this after I had already settled in for my treatment. Had I known about this limitation beforehand, I would have absolutely taken my business elsewhere. Additionally, I found the $66 charge for a single pedicure to be excessive. When I inquired about the price, the response I received was dismissive and rude, which only added to my dissatisfaction. They didn't even apologize or offer any form of explanation for their poor service. To top it all off, when we tried to use our separate "club card," the staff member attempted to sign two names on one card, then tried to take my card which had more signatures on it, leading to further confusion. When I addressed this issue, my concerns were brushed aside, leaving me feeling ignored and undervalued. then she rolls her eyes at me as if I'm in the wrong! As someone who has visited Vera Nails multiple times in the past, this experience was especially disheartening. I left feeling upset and disrespected, and it certainly tarnished my impression of the salon. What kind of service is this? I hope management takes this feedback seriously so that future customers won't have to endure the same frustrating experience. I cannot recommend Vera Nails based on this visit. Great experience! I had a wedding to go to and realized my nails looked like absolute trash and that I'd chewed half of them way down the Friday before. Called them and they were able to fit me in for a full acrylic set and gel manicure within a couple of hours. I don't get manicures often at all and hadn't had acrylics in probably 20 years, so was anxious, but the gentleman who took care of my nails didn't show any judgment and did a fantastic job. I have been going to Jenny @ Vera nails for almost 2 years. Bella the owner is very very on her game. when I call she answers me by name. She always will fit us in with no problem. If you become a regular they take good care of you. My nails have never been better with Jenny. She is very thorough and I can go sometimes 3 weeks in between if I need to. I came for my second try to get them fixed. Fenomenal job, what a difference in experience! New tools were used as well. My experience here wasn't the best, the tools they used were not clean and the little basket they had their tools in was surprisingly extremely dirty. The man that tended to me hurt my fingers on 3 separate occasions and filed my nail so hard it broke my skin and bled. I wanted gel X but was told it doesn't last long but in my experience with this kind lasts me way longer than acrylic. Well he decided with acrylic and not surprised it barely lasted a week. My thumb cracked in the middle on both sides and the French tip I asked for is no where near what I wanted. I had a stiletto but had to trim them myself because I feared more of them would crack. I think I'd give it one more shot but with someone else. I do want to add I requested for a pedi last minute which was pleasantly relaxing, I had surgery on both feet and the person that took care of my pedi was very gentle with my feet, it was very enjoyable. read more

I love this salon. I'm so confused by the bad reviews. These are seriously the nicest people. They do a great job on nails. Anytime I've asked for art, they completely go above and beyond. I started off getting the dipping powder. It wasn't working for me as it kept cracking, several people working there talked with me and help to figure out another solution. I'm very happy with the salon and I will continue to go. I have not had one bad experience and most of the people there have done my nails. Vi and Jacky have probably worked with my nails the most, and they are very good. Bella the owner is also super sweet and accommodating. They all go above and beyond and treat every customer of every race with care and dignity. At least from my observation. Don't believe those bad reviews. I came in to get my nails done and I don't know if it was because I was Black, but they rushed through my service. Didn't listen to my request. Didn't want to clean under my nails and even after I voiced the issue, my nail artist haphazardly did it. I just hate paying for experiences that are horrible. I left feeling terrible about myself and I pray pray pray no other Black women spends a coin there because they clearly do not want us there. I might add that when I looked over, I saw the artist working on the women next to me. They were taking their time while I feel I was being rushed out. Last week I made my first visit and I left REALLY HAPPY! The space is clean, quiet and cozy. I was lucky enough to see Jenny. Jenny was meticulous and her attention to detail was much appreciated. If you're thin and you're white, you will receive the best service here. I should have stopped going when the 1st incident happened that my money was not valued here. I've gotten my nails done at least 4 times here before, the people who did them did a great job. Then on my 5th visit Last week of August 2021, I went in the evening for the first time and I got a new guy, he was rough and was speeding through them. Had my nails under the lights only two times. Then the next two days my nails got yellow and dark, I called to explain and the lady who answers the phone told me to come in and they'll fix it. When I went in the following morning, They tried saying that it's probably because its a light blue color and I had used some chemical or because i was washing dishes, but none applied to me. But fine, I asked to changed the color to gray and the same guy who did them "fixed them" but he was rushing through them again. And yet again. THAT SAME EVEING my nails turned yellow! I called the Salon and explain, and the girl over the phone was asking what did I use or if I was washing my hands with a different soap. I explain that I think it's the guy who did them and she said that he does the nails just like everyone else (not true, in my experience), I even asked how much was a change of color and Ill go in but I don't want him to do them. But she said I can go in and they'll fix it. I went in for the third time and the girl who answers the phone was not happy, she kept looking at my nails and at me like I WAS GIVING THEM A HARD TIME. She said she'll fix them this time but with no warranty and that it had to be a dark color. I told her they were already dark gray and she proceed to do them. She was doing my nails very unhappy, MADE ME FEEL VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. Made me feel like I was doing this on purposed to get a free service out of them, when I was asking for the same thing and ON TOP, I changed the color to gray to make it easier on them. After she did them my nails turned out great and lasted two weeks like they always had in the past. By the way, I left a tip BOTH times I went in for them to fix it. Then I tried to overlook this whole awful experienced because the salon is closed by and I really like how the other people there did my nails. So I got my nails done two more times, and they were great. It was a little awkward and uncomfortable when I had to see the girl who runs the salon, because now in her eyes I am a problematic customer. But tonight was the last time for me. I went in to do a No-chip Manicure and I got the same guy who did a bad job on my nails. I closed my hands and very kindly asked him if someone else can please do my nails, I'm willing to wait, and he nods and said "yeah, yeah" and goes to the girl who runs the salon and tells her something and he comes back and starts shaving off my nails and cleaning them. I didn't want to make a big deal and trying to stay positive, Maybe he's just cleaning them and another girl will come and do the rest but NO! He continue with the service. I felt so unheard and unvalued as customer, I should have walked away or spoken up about this. Instead I told him I was just getting a manicure, we were going to do a red color but then I asked to just be clear. I couldn't hold back the tears I was so upset. I have never in the 16 years that I have gotten my nails done, gone through something like this. I'm used to going to nail salons where most of their customer are people of color, but this location has predominantly white customers and the experience is very different. You can see how some customers are greeted over others. If you are a person of color this place may not value you as much. read more

I have been here a few times. On average, this place does a pretty good job. I have gotten the dipping done here and I'm happy with the results. My issue is when they get busy, they tend to make me feel like I'm not important. I'm pushed off to someone else, who then rushes through the process. If I make an appointment and the owner happens to take care of me, she's often distracted and very involved with everyone in her salon. I understand that this is an important quality to have in a manger, but not at the expense of your client's experience. I never said anything before because the results were worth it. My breaking point was my last appointment. I transitioned from dipping powder to the no-chip. The salon got a little busy and this time Bella's work wasn't great. She was so busy with everyone else that she lost focus of her appointment (me) and my nails suffered for it. After 3 days, my no-chip manicure had very obvious cracks. There is no reason this should happen. I believe she got so busy worrying about everyone else that she lost track of what she was doing. Bella missed a coat and I believe that's why my nails cracked. I won't be returning. I'm not paying to go somewhere that rushes through the process. I was willing to make an exception because I liked the dipped, but there is no excuse for my no-chip only lasting 3 days. I shouldn't have continued to go if I was being rushed through the process. I create custom press on nails, so I know my stuff, they tried to make me seem like I was clueless. Did not appreciate that at all. Never again. UPDATE: when I went to pay my review came through and Bella was very upset with me. She badgered me asking why I have the review I did. Can we talk about unprofessional? THEN tried to accuse me of lying saying my review was wrong. She said, and I quote, "people mess up their nails and then want to come back!" EXCUSE ME?? Are u kidding me? She then told me it was because I put my shoes back on when I have pics of me arriving at home with my sandals. Insane. She kept talking as I tried to politely walk out the door. Sad 2nd update: Owner completely lied in her comment back to me. This is the LAST statement I am making. I NEVER ASKED FOR A NO-CHIP FOR FREE. That is a blatant lie. NEVER! I hardly ever review but honestly I just felt the need to... first of all, two stars because they were super nice, I was a bit late for my appointment, and my nails DID look great when I was done. HOWEVER, it's been barely four (4!) days and my DIP is cracking and already has a chip in it. If you get dip nails regularly, you know that this is highly unusual. I ALWAYS get a dip manicure and it lasts me three weeks plus with no cracks, and I've only ever gotten chips when I let my nails grow out too long and hit my nail particularly hard against something. This is not what happened here. When I was getting my nails done the guy who did my dip did only 3 coats of powder, did NOT have me rinse my hands, and then put on two coats of a very thick top coat. That's not the way my usual place does it, but I thought hey, as long as they look good and last who cares how he chooses to do it. When I got my nails done I planned on having this manicure through a wedding that I'm in next weekend, because dips usually last so long. Now, I may have to spend the money getting my nails done twice in 10 days because of this cracking and chipping- because I'm sure it's only going to get worse from here. Unfortunately I don't live in Chicago so I cannot go back and have them redone. At this point I'd love to get my $47 back but oh well I suppose. Side note: I also was up-charged $5 because I had dip from another place on that had to be removed, which no one informed me of until I was checking out. I wasn't too annoyed at the time, but it would have been nice to have been told pre-manicure. read more

I've gone in off peak times and been the only customer.
