This place has a Lot of potential but is a bit "off" - we can in on a very warm evening and they had no AC. The open windows didn't do the trick considering there is a pizza oven in the same room that creates addt'l heat . The tomato borratta salad was so so - the tomatoes and the borratta are not of high quality so the experience wasn't great . The melanzana was quite good and the prosciutto pizza was not too bad (4/5). My daughter also enjoyed the pasta with ragu. The bread they serve to the table was a disgrace - better not to serve anything if this is the quality . I can see some potential , but they're not there yet read more

Verdello restaurant is the replacement of Ortomare ristorante pizzeria. Verdello is more modern in term of the decor. The pizza is still as delicious as the previous restaurant. The menu is slightly changed, and some with a twist. We went twice already, the first visit we tried the tiramisu and sadly it was not great but this second visit, they made big improvement. read more

What a gem! Verdello completely exceeded our expectations. The food was phenomenal--authentic Italian flavors with a modern touch. We tried the Burrata pizza and the steak plate, both beautifully cooked and packed with flavor. The cocktail (Aperol Spritz) was refreshing and perfectly balanced. (Not sour at all!) The ambiance was relaxed yet stylish, with a lovely indoor-outdoor setup that made the whole experience feel like a European summer escape. The service was attentive without being overbearing, and everything came out at a great pace. It's hard to believe this place hasn't been discovered by more people yet. We love Verdello! We live in the neighborhood and it has become our go-to Italian place. We recently hosted an event with our family/friends there and they also did a great job with it. The food is all delicious, but we particularly would recommend the pastas (tortelloni and lamb ragu pappardelle)and pizzas (especially the quatro formaggi). Great, very friendly service as well. Such a hidden gem nested in the upper west side! We dined at Verdello as a large group and had the chance to try a bit of everything. Salads were super fresh and served with home made freshly baked bread! the tomato and burrata salad and carrots/raisins/pesto had some of the best garnishes, well- balanced and nicely presented. For me the standout was the baked eggplant and the selection of the cheeses and prosciutto of the cheeseboard -right on point. we had a few of their newly minted cocktails to start with -martini was one of the best in the city and and we have tasted quite a few of them! We found the Negroni and spritz very balanced and refreshing - For our main course, we had a nice full bodied barolo to accompany the perfectly cooked medium red ribeye and their famous pasta and pizza. Pasta, all homemade and prepared daily tasted just like grandmas with that something special that you can't point at but makes it unforgettable and the wood oven pizzas were super delicious with toppings that complemented each other just right. I had the zucchini/rosemary one and got to try burrata and the anchovies pizzas - all three so different but equally exceptional. We ended with a very light and tasty tiramisu and gelato that made for the perfect ending. service was excellent - and everything in the restaurant is newly renovated with a careful eye on the details giving it a contemporary vibe yet very welcoming and warm. We are lucky to have Verdello just a short walk from our home in the UWS. Verdello recently took over from the previous owners -- who called the place Ortomare. Ortomare had for 5 years been our go-to place for unfailing, authentic, real Italian food, and Verdello kept that tradition and raised it one notch by updating the decor (to a moden-sleek-zen themes) and food sophistication. My husband always has the pizzas, which are gorgeous, fresh from their wood-burning oven, with crispy slightly charred crust and creamy tasty topings. I mainly go for the fish, which has been unfailingly great, including the Branzino and tuna fillets. For appetizers we had the beet and radichhio goat cheese salad and the mussels, both standouts. I love their white ones -- a Pecorino and another dry why from Sicily, both beautifully dry and flavorful. The canoli are also standouts -- creamy but airy filling with a crunchy rich crust. Service is unfailingly friendly and warm. Verdello may be a Michelin contender. A true hidden gem, particularly in this part of Manhattan that is not otherwise known for its culinary sophistication. The food and service quality was truly exceptional. I can't wait to come back. It was tough to decide what to order. Appetizers were delicious and numerous. Brick oven pizza is out of this world. I know that NYC has the best pizzas in States, but pizzas at Verdello are supper delicious. You could taste freshness, flavors and deliciousness at pastas dishes. We had Verdello cater a lunch party for us. The food was absolutely fabulous. I especially loved the chicken marsala, grilled vegetables and the tuna entrre.
