What a fabulous restaurant. We used to go to the place that was there before, and when that closed we thought we were losing our favorite Italian restaurant in the neighborhood. Surprise!! Not only is the new place, wonderful, the staff friendly and attentive, and the prices reasonable, but they kept the same chef so the food is as good as ever. It's just as great as it always was. Even better because the booths are gone so if you wanted to set up for a larger party I'm pretty sure it could be accommodated. And they have a Happy Hour!! What's not to love? read more

Trying this based on a Yelp recommendation ENTRANCE - a very small place on the upper west side. We were greeted promptly and seated right away AMBIANCE - very rustic Italian decor. The place is small so I'd make a reservation during peak dining times. SERVICE - our waiter was nice but wasn't very engaging albeit we were the only ones there for a noon lunch MENU - typical Italian dishes, not a hugh menu but enough for most pallets. APPETIZERS - we split the fried calamari which were excellent. Very light breading which I prefer and cooked perfectly in the sense that the calamari was not rubbery but soft ENTREES - I tried the linguini nori which is the one with the black squid ink. It was delicious to say the least PORTION SIZES - as a note, although the food was great, the portion size is on the smaller end. Given that the pasta entrees were all close to $30 that didn't sit well with me WINE - the vino choices were really good. Make a reservation! Quaint little spot with amazing food. There are a couple stairs when you enter (if I remember correctly), tables are close, and it was noisy to me (I could pick out every conversation at every table if I wanted, and there was background music on too) but once you start eating you wont notice anything else. Julia was lovely - checked in often and wasn't far away if we needed anything. Bread and oil were addictive - don't fill up on bread! We split a Caesar salad. The dressing was light, fresh & just enough anchovy! Our dinners were perfect - hubby had fruitta Di Mar and I had the mushroom ravioli. We didn't have an appetizer so we could leave room for their house-made desserts. We split the best piece of ricotta cheesecake I've ever had. Graham cracker crust with moist, tender, creamy cheesy filling. It needed nothing. My favorite item of the night. Thank you!!! We will definitely be back when in town. read more

We are so happy to have found this restaurant! We always walked past it, but for some reason continued to go to our staple Italian favorites on the UWS. We decided to try something new and glad we did! I think this restaurant may be under new ownership in the past couple years. The food was delicious! We ordered an eggplant parmesan, which is one of our favorite dishes to always look for and a delicious smoked cheese gnocchi eggplant dish that was decadent. Plus, a caesar salad and red wine. We were too full for dessert. The wait staff was super friendly and accommodating, could not have been better experience. The restaurant is small and intimate, and very cozy. We will definitely return, this is now added to our UWS favorites list! (I wish I had taken photos, but we completely forgot because we were enjoying it so much!) read more

We had a wonderful dinner here on a rainy Friday evening before the big blizzard. We were in town visiting one of our kids and met here after a long day at the AMNH. The atmosphere was perfect, the food was incredible, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We were able to take advantage of the happy hour menu for a couple drinks and snacks before ordering dinner -- the mushroom ravioli, penne ala vodka and lasagna were particularly nice! Went there on a Saturday night to celebrate a belated birthday Food was delicious. Had the pasta Bolognese and my friend had the Bill Parmesan. We also ordered the broccoli Rob everything cooked perfectly and very flavorful and delicious. Chocolate cake for dessert was delicious and I'm not a dessert person. Good selection of lines reasonably priced great service. Came back a few days later for a business dinner. My two guests and I had a wonderful meal. We started with the artichoke and the eggplant Parm special. One of us had the chicken francese the other chicken milanase and the other a margarita pizza. This is a cute and cosy new place in a quiet location off of Amsterdam Avenue. There were a number of families there but this would also be a good choice in the neighborhood for a couples date. The food was delicious. The pizzas were solid for a restaurant that just opened serval weeks ago. The Chicken Milanese and Chicken Francese were excellent. Save room for dessert as well. Yesterday afternoon, I decided to try La Perla, arriving around 2:00 PM. The place was not busy. I was the only person eating at the bar with about 6 other people at the tables. I didn't find anything particularly noteworthy about this place - just another Italian restaurant. I had a nice glass of 2022 Cabernet and mushroom ravioli. The wine was quite good and the ravioli tasted good in the beginning, but eventually became a little overwhelming. I wasn't quite able to finish it all. The bread basket at the beginning was sub-par - little pieces of heated up bread with stale olive oil. There is nothing special about the atmosphere - a bar in front and tables in the back, but everything, including the restroom, seemed to be clean. The service was very good. The Bartender/waitress was friendly and efficient. I probably won't return though. There are Italian restaurants within the same area that I like better. read more

Most of the time, it's not quite right but this was sublime perfection! Perfectly balanced. Best new find. Old school style Italian cuisine. The flavors were spot on like "Nonna" would make. The right balance of sweet, garlic, and tartness on red sauce dishes. This is my new favorite restaurant in Manhattan! First off, the space is so cute, cozy and welcoming no matter the time of year. The bar stools are comfy and the space is small without feeling cramped. Second, the cocktails are amazing and I can't remember the last time I paid under $20 for the perfect martini. Third, the food is incredible, the artichokes were to die for and the bruschetta was the best I've ever had. Their pastas were incredible and all of their food is extremely reasonably priced for the taste and quality. Lastly, the service is unmatched - everyone was so nice and welcoming. The owner is so kind and helpful when my friends and I asked a thousand questions about the menu. If in doubt - JUST GO! You will become a regular just like I did :) read more

Just dined here and we are extremely satisfied. It's a small place that just reopened under new management, according to our waiter. Food tasted amazing. So to begin with this is day five of the restaurant the atmosphere is just lovely. Very warm and inviting. We decided to try it because we live on 78th St. and was hoping there would be a fabulous Italian restaurant within walking distance. We were not disappointed. The owner is very pleasant and accommodating. We started with the garlic bread, fantastic both my husband and I were shocked when we bit into it to taste how delicious it was. The veal parmigiana was outstanding. The portion more than plentiful and excellent value as well. My husband had the Lamb Shank. He said lovely sauce and very tender. He's a man of few words yet devoured his entire meal! We had a lovely talk with the owner, who told us all about his desire to open a new restaurant as he has two other very successful coffee/pastry shops called Rex in the city. And the server was as pleasant and accommodating as could be, we will definitely be returning. OMG just had the tiramisu and chocolate mousse cakes! Delicious! We had a reservation for 4 people at 6:00 tonight. This was the second time at this restaurant that their system did not show our reservation. We arrived an hour early and the restaurant was mostly empty. The very obnoxious owner said that he would seat us, but that we had to be out by 6:15. Now this would have been the 4th or 5th time that we have been to this restaurant. He was very insulting and could not care less if we walked out of his nearly empty restaurant, so that is what we did. We walked two blocks to Serafina, and had a lovely meal--and we did not have reservations there! The owner of La Perla Nascosta is rude and unappreciative of repeat customers. read more

old school italian cuisine restaurante with both authentic flavors and really reasonable prices for the city. Their cocktail menu is pretty standard but around $17 for one and a nice wine selection. I highly recommend ordering a few of their antipasti dishes, the meatball parm is a classic but great flavorful dish. Cant go wrong with other basics like their calamari and carcifori. Alot of different pasta dishes but my favorite is baked gnocchi napoleotena. If you haven't tried veal before, this is a good place to start. The servers were excellent and attentive and the vibes were great for both a date night and to go out with family! Will be definitely coming here again. read more

Adorable new spot on the upper West side. Wonderful service. Good food. Cute ambience. They are still awaiting their liquor license. Portion sizes were excellent, which is why I'm giving it a five. I was going between a four star or five star rating, but the food was good and the portion size was excellent so going with a five. We ordered the calamari and pizza. Calamari was excellent! The pizza was very good, but in an area where there is a lot of of excellent artisan pizza, I don't think it was the absolute best. Hope to see this adorable spot do well! read more
