Mediacom - 76mb/s on a hard wired 1gig service... WTF?!

    Mediacom

Since relocating to Delaware, we have been using Mediacom Xtream for TV & Internet for about 14…read moremonths. Prior to that we had used Verizon Fios and Comcast/Xfinity. During the majority of the time we have had Mediacom, the quality of TV and Internet performance has been very good to excellent, and the quality of technical support has been excellent. Pricing was slightly higher than we have paid for similar service in the past, but comparable. However, since our initial honeymoon period ended (after 12 months) the price has jumped by 20%, and the quality of service has plummeted. In the past week, there were two days when Internet service was completely down for several hours, and two additional days when it was out repeatedly for multiple short 10-15 minute periods throughout much of the day. Technical support is still very good, but on a house call to "upgrade" my service a couple months ago, the tech was going to replace my TV set top box with a new wireless-only box (i.e. no hardwire Ethernet connection) and I declined--choosing to keep my current hardware instead. While going wireless/WiFi is very versatile and convenient when it is working well, it makes no sense at all for Mediacom to abandon the Ethernet connection--which is by far the fastest, best, and most reliable interface--altogether. That technical decision by Mediacom is bound to cause them headaches in the future and result in a long term decrease in customer satisfaction. I am glad I was able to stop the tech before making that change on my home network. If the price did not increase by as much as it did after the first year (sort of a backhanded anniversary "gift" from Mediacom!) I would find it easier to overlook the performance issues and the attempt to implement an arguably unwise technical migration (to a wireless-only network) on my network. Unfortunately, in coastal Delaware there is currently no competition for the internet and TV business. Still, I I would hesitate to recommend Mediacom with any degree of enthusiasm, and I will be looking to replace them at the earliest opportunity.

Finally just gave up and let it lapse. Mailing the equipment back as soon as possible. It's almost unbelievable how stupid their policies and rules are. You have to beg them to be on auto pay.

I've been with Dish for 4.5 years. I was 100% fed up with the DVR I have had for over 4 years. I…read morerequested a replacement as this was a troubled device just turning off at any moment if it felt like it. The response from Tech support was always the same - unplug the power cord and replug. If that doesn't do it then they will reset it remotely and if that doesn't work you may have to replace the DVR. After a call to customer service and a lot of strong persuasive discussion, a replacement was sent. After 2 months of use, other issues with lost recordings and a week of no service and continued power on / off ghost events, I called again and said I'm done and will shop for a replacement company. Of course my bill went up significantly as the 24 month term was over and the customer service representative said there were no discounts available even if I re-upped to a 24 month commitment. So after comparing all the other offerings out there on a price and channel selection matrix made with the help of ChatGPT, I was prepared to move on. I made my last call in to to cancel the system and on the other end of the call was a wonderful woman who answered my call; Michelle in the Phoenix retention department. She was so helpful and felt my pain. We spoke for a while and she addressed my concerns. Fast forward: I'm back with Dish for 2 more years because of Michelle period. I hope Dish fully appreciates this Human being as much as I do. Thank you Michelle!

Zero stars. Don't make the mistake of signing up with Charter!…read more Look at Charter's terrible reviews everywhere. Consumerist magazine (not-for-profit subsidiary of Consumer Reports) calls Charter the "worst company in America." It's no wonder Charter went bankrupt a few years ago. This sleazy firm's business practices include: - cutting your satellite cable, then insisting that customer fight with Charter's 3rd party unlicensed contractor instead of honestly owning up to their mistake and correcting it. - moving your first bill due date ahead after first bill, without prior notification (told this is a "standard" Charter procedure on 2nd bill) - insisting that customers wait 45 days (unbelievable but true) for Charter's Autopay system to take effect, then warning that double payments may occur when customer attempts to make a one-time payment prior to the interim due date (as a safety measure) - moving from CSR agents in South Carolina to the Phillipines, where they lie to customers by claiming healthy account status with zero problems and confirming Autopay sign up weeks ago, then cutting off all services including (Emergency 911) shortly thereafter, without prior notice - migrating from helpful humans to speak with or chat online (about no-service issues) to worthless automated systems - poor no-service reliability I really wanted to love Charter. Our credit history is well above 700 and we always pay bills on time. But after several serious attempts to cooperate with Charter, acting as a good customer to straighten out their billing errors, all of our attempts have been futile. I recommend that prospective customers view the 800+ complaints about Charter on another website, plus other sites, before wasting your time. If you like unethical business practices, you'll love Charter!
