It's a diner, what more can I say? It's exactly what you expect it looks inside from the outside. They have a large selection of just about anything you'd want to eat, for better or worse. Got my extremely large portion of seafood, and my wife got some kind of sandwich (normally I remember what she got because I ate half of it, but not today). Fried seafood is what you expect, the sole didn't really have any flavor - just a sponge for tartar sauce. Everything came out pretty good and I was too full to enjoy the Elvis Sundae - vanilla ice cream with peanut butter, banana, and bacon bits. The texture of the peanut butter was a little off putting - you can see in the picture how solid it is. Eating clumps of peanut butter with banana and ice cream is as heavy as it sounds, and it doesn't go down well after eating a ton of fried food. It's a good place to go for dessert with their large selection of cakes and pastries. Definitely come if your hungry! read more

I have mixed feelings about this review. Coming here later in the morning while they are serving lunch, I was excited to have a place that still had breakfast as an option. I had ordered an omelet and corned beef hash on the side. The omelet was good, as well as the potatoes that are served with it. The corned beef hash was in clumps and a bit dry. Felt like eating leftovers that weren't reheated the proper way. My husband got the French toast that he had heard about and was excited to try. Diners aren't his first choice, so when agreeing to come here, I was hoping for the best. When his French toast came, it looked beautiful! The fruit looked fresh as well as the whipped cream. The only problem was that the French toast wasn't dipped in eggs. The bread had been on the grill and looked great, but we joked "where's the french?" Lol. We waited for our waitress, who never came back until the end, unfortunately. I ate some of his to not waste it, but he felt it was dry and didn't taste great to dip thick bread into syrup. I didn't disagree. Simple mistake by the kitchen, but it would have been nice for the waitress to ask how the food was to correct it. It was busy, I understand. Used to go here a couple times a week before lockdown. Not anymore even though I really want to support local business. Went on my birthday and the terrible waitress REFUSED to put in my order for a simple hot cocoa. I had asked for it to be made with milk instead of water. She went into detail about if that is what I wanted,then she would have to charge me extra for the mug. Then she would have to charge me extra for the milk. Then the cocoa would be a seperate charge because-her exact words-"This is a diner,not a restaurant." My response was,"Same thing". Wherein she went into a diatribe of how diners are not restaurants and if I want restaurant service I should not be at a diner. I wanted to leave right then and there but was flanked and could not get out of the booth. The people I was with did not want to go in search of another restaurant as it was mid morning and they did not want to have to wait in any line at another establishment. Looking back I should have just gone under the table and left the diner and the people who took me out for my birthday. If someone treated anyone I was with,especially on a special day,the way that awful,bitchy, waitress treated me,I would get up and walk out. I would stick up for my friend or family member and tell off the rude server. I certainly would not tip and I ALWAYS do!! Most of the people do not seem happy being there either and the prices are to high for what they give you. I understood at the time of the covid lockdowns the EXCUSE of "supply chain shortage". HOWEVER, it is almost SIX YEARS after covid lockdowns!! NO EXCUSE to jack up costs anymore and use covid as the justification for it!! Or to have your service go way down!! Prices at this point here and everywhere else should be back to what they were pre covid!! Greed is the real reason everything is high now. More places would make even more money if they stopped being greedy. Good thing about covid lockdowns is I actually learned how to cook. Including making dishes I really liked at restaurants. Although I ordered take out regularly at that time. Including from the Vernon Diner to try and help them stay in business. The cocoa incident with that horrid waitress who should not be in any customer service role was the thanks I got for giving them my business. The atmosphere is open feeling and clean. The service is fast and the menu is extensive. We tried an omelet which was fantastic and cooked exactly how we requested. We also tried the deluxe salmon and bagel. The presentation was colorful, large portions and very good. read more

I went to the Diner on Saturday with my daughter and friends. I got the " corned beef" special. It was advertised to come with focaccia bread. Others at the table had burgers and omelets. The corned beef was very very dry. It was not fresh at all. The focaccia bread was stale white bread and two slices of yellow cake. When I told the waitress I didn't want it, she said it was corn bread. Again not focaccia. The burgers were also over cooked and the bacon on the burgers was undercooked. My Greek omelette was very nice, but the chef's home-style sliced red potatoes and onions were spiced and prepared expertly. The staff are excellent, quick on their feet and friendly. went to the Diner for Bday celebration for my daughter and we got seating at a table close to restrooms under the blue skyscape on the ceiling! After we got our our drinks we noticed about 30 flies on the ceiling, well our food came out and those flies came down and were landing on our food we had to try to keep swatting them away! We got the manager she said oh yeah we know and we're going to try to get rid of them tomorrow and took my daughter meal off the bill! Then we left our food and went to pay well another woman was complaining how was sitting in the back dining area about the same thing! most disgusting thing having flies landing on your food and nothing being done so I emailed Health dept on them! Love stopping here on the way to and from Boston. Their food is delicious; everything is very fresh. Their staff is very friendly. Lots of seating and love their open air seating. To begin, the wait time to get a table was 2X what they quoted when we put our name in. That always gets off to a bad start. Then the wait time for the food was exceptionally long. Stopped by Vernon Diner on our way home from quick excursion to Cape Cod. Standard Greek style diner, with the usual suspects of diner fare w/ Greek flare. Had the steak and cheese wrap coupled with a bowl of beef orzo soup. Mrs. had a grilled cheese and bowl of French Onion soup. All in all, nothing spectacular. My wrap was OK, onion rings were decent, and the beef orzo soup was average but hearty. The wifey said French onion soup was Ok but was not happy w/ grilled cheese. Dessert selection looked outstanding but had neither the appetite or the time to try. I will mention the crème brûlée cheesecake looked very good. Service was very good. All of our needs were taken care of. The Vernon Diner satisfied our needs for a meal at the end of a long drive but it was rather ordinary. COMFORT FOOD GALORE!!!!!!!! Come and explore!!!! I love this place, I opted for a pumpkin white russian which was light on the spices but full with the flavor. The chicken parm comes with salad and bread to start. I ate as much as the salad as I could but I am not a huge salad fan! The bread was great (I am more of a bread person). Stopped in for breakfast with my husband. This was our first time here. We're from New Jersey so we wanted to see how this diner compares with there's. We weren't disappointed. We had a veggie omelette, western omelette, and challah French toast. All were good, my husband really liked his veggie omelette because he said he can taste that they sautéed the veggies. We also got a few slices of cheesecake to take home to the family. The tiramisu, pumpkin, and red velvet. I liked that they had a large assortment of different desserts baked on site. Our server was nice and attentive. It was a busy afternoon and the wait was only about ten minutes which was good. I will definitely come back and try lunch next time. We love Vernon Diner! We try our best to sit at the counter because we get great service there, it's comfortable and can even glance at the TV if we want. Their matzah ball soup is amazing. Fluffy matzah balls , chunks of chicken, shredded carrots and noodles. We pretty much get some every visit and even get it to go on occasion. Another favorite here is their home made macaroni salad. So darn good! This visit we had soup, I had their Brooklyn Burger without cheese (onions, peppers, mushrooms) and onion rings. She had a chicken sandwich she loved. I never have complaints about diner food and I'm sure not going to start now!! We came here with friends after playing disc golf nearby. There was about 8 of us on a Saturday afternoon and didn't have to wait long at all. People were social distancing and everyone was wearing masks, even outside. I'm happy people follow these guidelines around here! #CTpride We sat inside and felt very comfortable. We were distanced from other tables and noticed guests wearing masks as they left their table. I've eaten here a few times now, only for breakfast so this snap-shot speaks of that. I'm definitely a breakfast person so if you knock it out of the park you'll likely have my loyalty for life. In my opinion if you have the word "diner" in your name breakfast should be incredible, well I wasn't blown away by any means but it was a pretty solid effort and definitely consistent from one visit to the next - fried eggs ordered medium here are fully cooked so if you're expecting to mop up the soft yolk with your toast order them over easy and hope the cook gets the whites cooked and keeps the yolk runny. If you have the word "diner" in your name I probably shouldn't have to instruct you on how to cook eggs but it's important. The service was boring I guess everyone can't be a morning person but if you're pulling the breakfast shift you should somewhat be a morning person right? I don't want to face a sleepy eye'd server who yawns while taking my orders and reminds me of how much time she has left on here shift first thing in the morning lol. My server definitely wasn't overly attentive, bubbly, or a chatty Kathy by any means she appeared from the abyss and disappeared the moment her task was completed thankful I'm not a needy person or I could of been frustrated like the old couple in the booth behind me. A group of four of us came on Sunday at noon. It was a pretty full diner, and there was about a 20 minute wait which is not too bad. It was very bustling inside. The service was fine. I've enjoyed Vernon Diner for a few years since returning to Connecticut. However yesterday I was very disappointed. My wife is a vegetarian. She asked for a "BLT" sandwich without the bacon but was informed there would be an "Up Charge" for removing the bacon and adding an extra portion of greens. Very disappointed and will not be back soon! Too bad. How can a few lettuce leaves merit an upcharge for removing the bacon? Lost us as customers! read more

Came for dessert tonight. Walked in and stood there while being ignored for 6 minutes. Finally, at 9:19 someone comes over....I asked for a table for 2 and they said they stopped seating at 9:15. I was in the restaurant waiting before that. Screw them... they have lost a customer. They won't care I am sure...I am only one. Place is clean and nice. Open 24 hours. Service is good. They had ton of wait staff for Saturday late afternoon. Waitress was great. We ordered the chicken quesadilla, Delicious. Buffalo wrap with waffle fries. Short stack of pancakes and a cheeseburger platter with waffle fries. They have A TON of desserts. We ordered a strawberry cheese cake and a strawberry shortcake to go. Dessert was fine for a diner. I wouldn't say the best I ever had but a solid 4 out of 5.
