Extremely pleased with every dish ... each time that I've been here. Tried out the gyro, chicken quesadillas, and Philly cheese steak today. (Also the French onion and matzo ball soup)!! I've had a few pleasant experiences here and I must say, despite feeling a little rushed, I really couldn't be happier. Ambiance is hustling and bustling on a busy Sunday and they will NOT seat you until your whole party has arrived ... (at least at least at peak busy times). Dessert case was increasingly impressive the longer I looked. And I'm debating diving into my leftovers box even as I write this review. I just want another bite! What can I say! :) Thank you! Had a great experience with five close friends here today. We sat in the glassed in patio. It felt like we were al fresco. I had apple cinnamon pancakes. Frankly, I feel the recipe should be changed from strings of apple to diced apple. The texture of the apples remind of shoestring fried onions. Also, more cinnamon would have been nice. I came here with a friend for a Sunday brunch recently. This place never disappoints! We were able to get a table for two right away but others in larger parties had to wait. I love that they have several different Benedict's. Since I don't eat meat, I ordered my usual California Benedict without the bacon. It was so delicious and was served with lots of country fried potatoes. My friend enjoyed her large veggie omelet as well. This place is crowded every time I come here, that's because the food is consistently good and there is a surprisingly large menu for a diner. Our server was delightful and efficient as well. Overall, the food is good, My husband had a breakfast Stuffed French Toast and sausage he liked, but I got a portobello panini with waffle fries. It had maybe 2 slivers of portobello mushrooms on it. The waffle fries look absolutely amazing, but they are not. There is virtually no potato inside. The pickle on the side was nice and crunchy and the tiny about of coke slaw was great and I'm very picky about coke slaw. The biggest disappointment was I was torn between so many of the vast array of beautiful desserts and not much help. I deduced what some of them were because they were not labeled. One I thought was a lemon coconut cake, but was told it wasn't. I asked I could could get a slice anyway and they said that that was only for buying the whole cake. I decided to only get the pineapple coconut cake. It's not something I would get again because it just feels wet. I can only guess maybe there's pineapple in the cream in the middle that seeps into the cake? I don't know, but I don't actually taste pineapple or coconut, but the frosting isn't some thick, sickly sweet crap, it's a light and fluffy whipped cream. Meh. read more

One of those places with too many items on the menu. While this might sound like a good thing, it tends to overwhelm the kitchen and the freshness level of its inventory. That being said, this place does deal with that better than some, though not better than others. Whateveh! Is it any good? It's a diner. It works like a diner, so if you are looking for a diner, there ya go. Whatever food you get will be edible, but its doubtful you will be writing home about it. Is the meatball pasta dish like some Italian grandma made it? Aw, hell no! Is the chicken panini best you ever ate? Aw, hell no! What about the wide array of yummy looking cakes and stuff in that dessert case? Looks better than they taste. They are open till ten anyway, midnight on fri/sat so thats a plus, even though the big sign out front says 24 hours, a relic of the good old days. Sooo, go for it. Just dont go in with huge expectations. It looks clean, the crew is friendly and usually efficient, the kitchen will attempt to keep up with the crowd and that giant menu, and if all goes well you will at least get some decent waffle fries and your day will be complete. I have been coming here for 19 years & I can honestly say i have NEVER EVER been disappointed with ANYTHING. The food is consistently exceptional, the service is always good & the desserts are to die for. It is better than any diner i have ever been to in my life & ive been to two that were featured on Diners Drive-ins & Dives. ( but that's another review) It is such a good establishment, it should be taken seriously! I have not been here in some time because I moved away, & in my absence they added on a seating area. It takes up the space that used to be their outdoor seating, but is completely enclosed. The windows & roof are remote controlled to go completely down to the foundation w/ the roof retracting on demand. It is climate controlled, but I still a little chili for the cold winter months, so it is open during the warmer weekend days for now. This place is phenomenal for desserts. They have a bakery in back and do everything in house!!! Again, not a bad one in the bunch & they will cater allowing you to order specialty cakes & pies for occasions & holidays. read more

Went for breakfast w my kids after our church service on a Sunday. We had a 20 minute or so wait to get our table. We got seated and service was a little slow getting our food. I wouldn't recommend the Oreo pancakes or the chocolate chip pancakes as it was a little much. We enjoyed very much the strawberry stuffed cheesecake French toast as my son order it at 1st it sounded like it would be too sweet and tried to change his mind to go with another selection. I have to say it was very good. The veggie omelette was very good and a good size. The diner is very large inside with lots of booths and tables. Just a regular ol' diner spot. The place is huge and the dessert case is out of this world. It looked very pretty and appealing and according to the diner all made in house. I'm not sure if I would place an order for a specialized cake from a diner but you can. We decided to try this place since our friends have eaten here a few times for breakfast. I love a good breakfast spot. I ordered the health egg white protein omelette with a side a fruit and whole wheat toast but when my food arrived it was the wrong order. The waitress seemed perplexed and she realized the kitchen made the wrong one. It was immediately corrected and it was quickly made. My omelette needed a little salt but I rather add than have it be salty. I tried their french toast and it was good.. doesn't need syrup in my opinion. My husband wanted lunch and I did tell him all the rave seems to be about the breakfast but he decided on a monte cristo sandwich. Man! Was he disappointed. It was heavy, greasy and no jam. Are no reservations and you will not be seated until your party has arrived. We did expect to wait, but I will say they moved people along very well and worth it My husband got a giro, I had the bikinis wrap, my cousin got the Mediterranean panini and his wife got the portobello wrap. After many recommendations from friends, I finally visited Vernon Diner for a Sunday lunch. The restaurant was packed but they were able to quickly seat our group of 6. Unfortunately, once we were seated, no one brought us water or came to take our order until one of us flagged down a server. I met some friends for Sunday brunch at the Vernon Diner. It was very busy and we had to wait around 20 minutes for a table. I've never been here before, I was impressed with the interior. It looks very new, modern and revamped. We got seated by the front, right where all the desserts are, a lot of them looked very tasty. In particular the tiramisu looked like something I would enjoy. I got a coffee and their French toast. We all got something similar, pancakes, waffles or French toast. The French toast was very plush, pillowy and soft. It came in three slices, and with creamy butter on the side. It was sprinkled with powdered sugar. This was a treat for me as I never have this type of sugary breakfast. Not to mention I also added maple syrup on top. Everyone at my party also enjoyed their food. The waitress seemed a bit rushed, I'm sure there were people who wanted our table. I was very pleased with my food. My waiter was out standing and he was very pleasant with my whole family. The only problem I had was has was with their manager. When I had asked what her role was it was pointed out of her title. Not sure of her name. But she had dark hair and was talking to the another woman in a leopard shirt. Went here a few weeks ago on a road trip. The building is very nice and cozy inside. It makes you feel right at home. Our waitress was super nice and friendly. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs, my partner got the burger. The wait wasn't long however the food itself was quite mid. The spaghetti was mushy, as if it had been sitting out for a long time. The sauce tasted like it came straight out of a tin can, no seasonings or anything to spruce it up. The meatballs themselves were fine. The burger was a lil burnt and small but fine. It's hard to rate any diner as their menus are food bibles. This review is specifically for my one experience with their breakfast. We were greeted and seated within seconds of walking inside. Walked by a row of mouthwatering pastries and desserts on the way to our table. We sat across from a cute fish tank. Our waiter was so sweet. Simple, fast, easy. The place was very clean. I ordered the Bella Nutella Stuffed French Toast. Absolutely loved it. I personally may have liked a little more Nutella, but that's because I have a problem. It's so nice they use REAL fruit... a hard find. The whipped cream... is it home made? It was so fluffy & yum! I'd eat it off of anything. Anyways, my partner got the Southwestern Breakfast Burrito. I was basically talking to myself the whole time since he was busy stuffing his face. He loved it, wants to come back again. My mimosa made me happy. Dear Vernon Diner! You earned 4 stars in my book of Yelp Reviews-Which is a hard earned ranking! I was staying at a nearby hotel and looking for a bite to eat-all I had to do was follow my nose for the scent of breakfast-eggs and bacon lured me in. I ordered the Irish Benedict-basically eggs Benedict with corned beef hash. Sounds simplistic but OMG-home run, slam dunk, hole in one-whatever sports euphemism you want to use-this breakfast plate was amazing! I was worried that it would be greasy with a side of fried potatoes and corn beef hash but there was very little grease. My fried potatoes were actually fresh sliced and fried! I don't know what magic they did for my hash but it wasn't greasy/fatty either! I have one itsy bitsy tiny complaint-I would have liked just a little more hollandaise but.....my poached eggs were perfect, and my toasted english muffin still had crunch. Well done! Vernon diner is one of those places that I consider a benchmark for other diners. I've been to a few in my day, and they all have their quirks. This one is probably one of the stronger showings, and they fall into a lot of the same trappings as other diners. What sets them apart from your standard mom-and-pop operation is their consistency and their selection. Lots of diners will have giant menus of not-fresh foods. This place has the menu but also has a slightly better than average quality to them. They actually take pride in their food, and although it's a gigantic menu of food it's also fairly well executed. Very rarely will I have something that's undercooked or didn't taste good. They will underseason their meats, they will add gobs of cheese on top of things, but they will generally do so with tact and consistency. That being said, they are not amazing food. They try to provide an excellent dining experience, but lack the manpower and the resources to do so. Take my most recent outing there. I got there and immediately put an order in for coffee. The wait staff were able to handle a smattering of people coming in, but with the morning dragging on the amount of covers was starting to overwhelm the ladies. This lead to everyone getting seated, but unless you were getting food they were not paying attention to you. I drank my first cup of weak coffee, and was hoping to get topped off but the wait staff were too busy to fill me up. I didn't get my second cup until my food came out, which was 20 minutes later. Then when it did come out, I wanted a container to put syrup in to dunk the pancakes. Didn't see the waitress again until she handed me a check, which was sad because I was hoping to grab a piece of carrot cake for home. I'm not a big fan of their french toast. They don't add enough batter to the bread. It's fairly common, lots of places are afraid to soak the bread for too long, Which leads to a piece of toast with egg batter on the outside. So today I opted for their nutella and coconut pancakes. They were fairly large, with a whipped salted butter cup and the coconut baked in. The coconut was lacking any flavor. It was in the pancake but was unsweetened shreds. the Nutella was a nice drizzle, but the bottom two pancakes didn't have any hazelnut spread. Although I have been very critical of this place, it's not that it's not decent food. As I stated earlier, I use Vernon Diner to judge all other diners I go to. I've been to better, but I consider this place to be the bar that other diners need to surpass. It's good food for a decent price but lacks any defining elements. So I stopped in at 10:30 pm and not busy at all and order a deluxe cheese burger and a milkshake to be given with my meal. The burger was good, but I never got the milkshake and when I was done I walked up to the cashier to pay.
