We stopped here for a nice lunch in the middle of a busy day of hiking and hitting the beach, so we were definitely hungry and Verrazzano did not disappoint! Their Sicilian pizzas take about 30-40 minutes to cook, but they had this whole pizza available for by-the-slice so they just heated it up for us. If you're familiar with Detroit style pizza, this is similar. The crust is pillowy, soft, and herbaceous. The generous portions of sauce, cheese, and toppings are almost too heavy for the crust so you definitely need both hands to pick up a slice. The pizza is basically dripping with decadence -- normally the small is split into 4 slices but we asked them to split it into 6 -- definitely the right move. I have a smaller appetite and one and a half slices was more than plenty for me, while my buddy who has a much larger appetite had three slices. For years, Verrazzano has been our to-go for pizza in HMB. I have previously written a 5-star Yelp review about them. There have always been occasional problems with consistency, but when they were on their game the pies were absolutely delicious, which is why we were loyal customers. Our fridge is festooned with the colorful and imaginative stickers that seal the Verrazzano delivery boxes. Unfortunately, our last two pizzas (we order about once every two weeks) have been simply awful. We thought maybe the first one was a fluke, but the second one was the just same. Verrazzano have definitely changed to cheaper ingredients, so cheap that we didn't even feel like finishing the pies. We always order the same combo, so the change was quite pronounced. The crust was sad, the cheese was different and tasted weird, the olives tasted like they were the cheapest tinned brand possible. Half the onions were raw. I just had one of the best pizzas I've had in years. This place is in a little plaza with a few other restaurants and the food and service is amazing. I got my favorite beach pizza. Pepperoni and pineapple and it was perfect. Fresh pineapple and the little Pepperoni that curl up when cooked. My wife and I were vacationing in Half Moon Bay and we decided we wanted a quick meal. We did a walk-in at Verrazzano pizza. We were greeted by two young ladies who took our order of a combo and said it would be a ten fifteen minute wait. It was early and there were a few others waiting. We took the pizza back to our hotel and enjoyed a very tasty pizza. The ingredients were fresh and cooked well. I picked this place for a quick takeout that I could walk to --for my first night in town. It turned out to be such a great idea. I figured I would get a small pizza and eat the rest for lunch. It turned out to be way bigger than expected for this Sicilian style pizza. I have to say it was an incredible feast. The perfect ratios of cheese, pepperoni and sauce were balanced and very tasty. The garlic knots were exceptional. And they have Mexican Coke- which made everything even more amazing. Service was great. I ordered at the counter took my dog for a walk and came back and maybe about 10 minutes outside people watching. So it was about a 30-40 minutes wait if you order at the counter, but it looked like a lot of people pre-ordered by calling in. They were in and out swiftly. read more

By far the best pizza place in Half Moon Bay, perhaps even in the Bay Area. We usually get their pizzas delivered, and service is fast and friendly. Their pepperoni pizza is great, try it with hot honey. That said, the star of the menu is the Humble Pie, a vegetarian choice. Try it in both regular (thin crust) and Sicilian (square, deep dish) styles. So good! The ambiance was nice, there was only one side of the wall that was fit for seating. Mainly for waiting really, the menu was not posted on the wall, you would need a paper menu to see the options available. They have a selection of wines, beers and seltzers. The wait was about 1minutes for a medium combo pizza. They had a marvel movie on the TV and the cashier was nice and helpful with any questions I had about the pizza. A hidden gem in Half Moon Bay! A great place to get pizza by the slice or whole. We stopped by after a trip to a nearby farm and ordered a Feed Me Seymour and a Veganista pizza. Both were made fresh and served in about 30 minutes. The pizzas were well made, enough toppings and generous sauce. Both tasted super fresh and delicious. Their pizzas are indeed super large in size and can serve a crowd. They do not have a lot of place to sit but they do have some common seating on the other side of the complex. It is super sunny at noon there but workable. Would totally recommend this spot for some piping hot pizzas! read more

This is our fav pizza in Half Moon Bay. It has a nondescript location, and you would have little clue of the quality of their pies from the outside. The pizza always comes out delicious, and cheesy. The outer crust has some brown bubbles that just add to the marvelous taste. The toppings are all of very high quality, so don't hold back get them all. Or, if you are a purist like me, just get the cheese pie it is heavenly. You can't do any better in Half moon Bay! The service is quick and friendly and professional. The ambiance is better than your average pizza parlor. Go for it! read more

Both were just okay, but I have to confess, I'm not a fan of the NY floppy crust style. There are always a lot of pizza places anywhere you go but this one deserves special merit! We were looking for a pizza place for a day trip out to the coast and this one caught our eye with the good reviews and unique (in ingredients and the pizza names!) pizzas they had on the menu. I was a bit skeptical at first since the pizzas are not cheap but after we started eating I loved it! They say they use locally sourced ingredients, no additives, etc... and you can tell with the quality of how everything tastes. We got "The Bull" which basically is sausage, pepperoni, and cremini mushrooms. The house made sausage is awesome, there was a good amount of toppings on the pie, and I loved the texture of the crust. It is a thin crust pizza but it's not overbaked and burnt and the crust has a nice chewiness to it. We also got the garlic knots and those are my daughter's favorite and we love them too! We've already been back- on our very next trip coastside. This time we got a small white clam and garlic to try. It wasn't bad but my wife said she's had better clam pizzas before. However, it must be noted that she's spent time in New Haven, which is where this kind of pizza started! At any rate, we've enjoyed both visits here and this is definitely a contender any time we're near Half Moon Bay! read more

Long-time and repeat customer and probably plan to continue, but had a very disappointing experience recently with their Sicilian pizza which I had not ordered before. I love their NY-style Al Pastor pizza and eat it very regularly (particularly because their sauce is great!), and that's why this is staying 3 stars, although I hovered over 2 due to my customer service experience. Ordered an Al Pastor Sicilian with light cheese, and instead received a pizza with no sauce on the crust - only cheese - with about a teaspoon or two of sauce on random corners of the slices. That's not normal NY or non-NY Sicilian pizza (which usually has plenty of sauce, either on top or under the cheese), and made this a difficult eating experience, since it was just inch-thick bread and a bunch of cheese. Finally, despite the heavy advertisement of "extra toppings" and *zero* mention of the weird sauce situation, this was exactly the topping amount on their normal Al Pastor. I would know, I've ordered dozens of those. So, nothing to mitigate the hefty amount of cheese and lack of sauce, making for a very dry bite. Essentially a cheese bread with an onion and a bit of sausage in the bite. Pic for context - that little dab of sauce on the corner was it for this (and several other) slices. Some had two dabs. What topped off this absolute dream of a $40 pre-tax and pre-delivery pizza was the restaurant's response to my complaint of receiving an odd and difficult to enjoy pizza not contemplated by the menu description, which was to tell me that this was normal and that they were not going to do anything about it. I've spent a whole lot of money here over the years and it kind of sucked to get a complete brush off after an objectively negative experience. Unsolicited advice: your menu should let people know your Sicilian is really a pizza bianca. read more
