Where to begin? I'd begin with the wine, but honestly since it's a wine bar that's expected to be good (and it was). So let's talk about the food. First, it was happy hour, and I saw brussels sprouts on the menu (a kale/sprout salad kinda deal actually) so I ordered them immediately. They did not disappoint. (Also there is normally prosciutto, so I imagine they are even more amazing if you eat meat.) Then there was the cheese board. My friend and I shared and it was a great assortment of cheeses and spreads and these lovely olives marinated in orange. Then there was the "boozy cupcakes." Chocolate, strawberry, and mimosa flavours in a little bite size dessert. A perfect end to dinner or happy hour. Speaking of happy hour, as well as having a strong list of wine and beer, the happy hour menu covers a lot of options. Lastly, the space is nice: clean and modern and a little bit cozy. Just recently came here for happy hour with a friend and I love this place. Their selection of wines is endless. The food - also really good. I ordered the Kale and Brussel Spouts salad and Crispy Breaded Eggplant Napolean, both on the happy hour menu, and they were absolutely delicious. They also had this great deal we didn't try where you get a flight sampler of 3 wines and get 3 small plates for $12. Definitely coming back! Verre Wine Bar is definitely going to become very quickly popular very quickly. Where to even begin!Located just a few blocks from the courthouse metro stop, its a great spot to pop in for happy hour on your way home, or to have a nice long dinner sampling their many creative and delicious small plate options. The decor is light and hip, though the space is quite small. I can imagine that once people catch wind of this place it'll be pretty hard to get a table on the weekends. Each dish has a recommended wine pairing listed next to it, which the servers are more than happy to describe to you, or to suggest an alternative. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely excited about working in such a cool and creative restaurant. The dishes are unique and flavorful and the presentation really makes it feel like you're at a much more expensive restaurant, whereas the prices here are very reasonable! The happy hour is from 4-8pm and features some of their regular small plates at a reduced price, as well as a few special HH only ones. I highly recommend the Virginia Ham Bruschetta and the Crispy Pork Belly from the HH menu. From the dinner menu we tried several things but the what stood out was the Roasted Octupus because it was one of the best octopus dishes I've ever had! A fun feature of the menu is their Pinchos, which is a little flight of 3 bite sized dishes, similar to an amuse bouche, that also come with a pour of a paired wine. The wine pours were quite generous for tasters and I was amazed at how much flavor they fit into those tiny bites. The owner was out an about serving customers as well, and you can really sense his passion about the restaurant. I can tell I'll be here quite often. My favorite date night girl (my wife!) and I made our initial visit earlier this evening, and sat at the bar. We had a few bruschetta items, the cheese board, and the brisket, along with a bottle of very easy drinking ribera del duero, and then had the boozy cupcakes and a glass of sauternes for dessert. Everything was top notch, well thought out and executed, and good sized portions. A special shout out to Denise and Laura who expertly kept things going behind the bar, and were very friendly and engaging. One nice thing was that there wasn't any obnoxiously loud music blasting (like in other bars & food establishments), so we were able to chat with Denise & Laura, as well as other people who were sitting at the bar...a very friendly and welcoming environment! The prices were reasonable, especially during happy hour and the serving sizes were quite large. I only stopped in here to kill time before a meeting I had at Arlington Rooftop and I'm glad I did. I came in at around 5 ish during Happy Hour and no one was there, so I nabbed a corner table to do my work. I got a delicious 4$ glass of white wine, which name has escaped me- the server allowed me to sample two other delicious sweet white wines but I decided on just the cheapest one. I was there for nearly two hours and soon enough the entire place was full! I would only hope that their happy hour menu adds some more food options, as I didn't find a large selection. Also, i totally dig this phrase they have up on the website - "EVERYONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO SAVOUR, APPRECIATE, AND AFFORD FINE WINE AND GOOD FOOD IN EQUAL MEASURE AND EQUAL PLEASURE WITHOUT HAVING TO PUT ON A TIE. Great new wine bar in between Clarendon and Rosslyn! Came here for a happy hour after work and they have great HH specials. I had a glass of a red blend from Italy along with the smoked whitefish bruschetta. Both were excellent for a great price! Since it's right near my office, I'll be coming here a lot. Owner was nice and the space is modern and sleek. Two minor points are that the place got kind of loud once it was close to full capacity and also that many of the walls are stark, white and blank. It would be fun if they featured local artists or something on those white walls. I'll be back and I look forward to trying some of their other wines and food selections! read more

It might be the wine talking, but I love this place. I think it will be my new go to. The happy hour is really good $6-$7 food and wines (also have draft beers) 5-7pm on weekdays. We also did the wine flight with food pairings. At $12, it's a steal. The pairings were just bites, but could not have been paired more perfectly with the wine selection. We had the bruschetta (pepperoni & olive tapenade)- both delish! Also had the shrimp sauvignon and beef brisket. The shrimp was perfect on a bed of shredded vegetables. The brisket was so tender with potatoes with rosemary on top. They are served as small plates, but can easily be used as dinner portions. The overall vibe of the place is light and airy. It got busy on a weeknight. The wine selection is great. It also has outdoor seating. I can't wait to go back! read more

Perfect place for wine and snacks. A couple friends and I went here on a Monday right after it opened for the evening at 4. None of us are winos but we enjoy a glass now and then. We all thought this place was spectacular. It has a nice covered patio out front and the inside is cool as well. The staff all seemed to be pretty knowledgeable and were great about answering our questions and making recommendations. We each had a couple glasses some from the happy hour menu and some not. We also had the big platter of cheese meats and bread, so delicious! After that we tried the boozy cupcakes which were also amazing. My wife and I stayed at the Hyatt next door and decided to stop by and check this place out. It was a great choice! They have a great section of wines, small bites and amazing service. We decided to try the small bite/wine flight and loved it! We also took our servers advice and ordered a few other wines. The desserts were also a great way to end our amazing time at this place. I will say however, the chocolate bread pudding was a bit disappointing and dry. It looks great but I expected it to be more moist and have a deeper chocolate taste. It was very nice to sit outside and the wine/selection was very good; but the food was pretty average. The bruschetta were a little plain and not very different from what you could make yourself by just buying the ingredients. The Brussel sprout salad was better and everything was chopped/seasoned well. The brisket had nice bbq sauce and overall good flavor but it was a bit thin and tough. Great outdoor seating available during the summer. The small bites are VERY small and overall it's a bit pricier for what I think it should be, but service is good and quality/taste of food is good so no true complaints. Wine list prices during happy hour looked like a decent deal. I was there later in the evening on a weekday so it wasn't very crowded.
