This used to be one of those places where you could never be disappointed, no matter the time of day. It's still very good, but I feel like the quality has dipped a bit. One of my favorite dishes here is the Churrasco Versailles -- it's always been a go-to. This time, I ordered it medium, but it came out closer to well-done. As someone who appreciates good meat, I could definitely tell the difference in quality compared to past visits. We also ordered the Tres Leches, which tasted fine but was a little on the dry side. Overall, we still had a wonderful time -- maybe it was just an off day or a busy moment for the kitchen. Was recommended this place by so many people as a classic Cuban, but our family was pretty disappointed. The steak was chewy, fish dry and salty, croquettes were bland, most flavors were one note. Ceviche was not bad, the boniato chips made it so much better. Our favorite was ropa vieja. The plantains and sauces were also great, was needed in every bite in order to finish our meal. Stopped by Versailles Restaurant for a pastelito de guayaba y queso and a café con leche because apparently I'm doing a full Miami pastry tour now. First off, the pastelitos here are the real deal. My family and I visited this classic Cuban restaurant per recommendation from a few locals. To start, the restaurant and attached bakery cafe were packed full of locals, which is always a good sign. The interior is a bit dated but I don't care about that type of thing. We arrived around 5:30 and had a 15 min wait. There is a bartender stationed in their outdoor courtyard area so we orders the most insanely good mojitos while we waited. Literally, I'll be comparing every other mojito for the rest of my life to these ones. Also, they are discretely very booze-y and you won't notice, so be warned! Their menu is quite expansive so it's hard to choose what to get! We ordered a half pitcher of red sangria to share and it was a large volume! For dinner, we started with the ceviche. It was served with tasty plantain chips and we enjoyed it all! I ordered the chicken al ajillo for my main course, while my husband got the vaca frita and my kids shared the breaded chicken breast. We came here while visiting Miami over the weekend. We were told this was definitely a place we had to try. So we did. We arrived to it and not knowing that they have three areas. The first is the actual restaurant. They serve breakfast buffet for $15.99 on Saturday and Sunday. We went on Saturday but my husband and I don't like buffets so we opted to first just go and get a coffee at the little location located next to the restaurant. We both ordered a cafe con leche. It's a small little cafe they have only a small batch of pastries and serve coffee. Let me just say that this was the best cafe con leche I have had in a pretty long time. Then after getting our coffee we went to the next building which is the bakery and cafe. This place is busy and wow does it have pastries and other delicious sandwiches and cakes. My husband ordered a cubano sandwich and I ordered a ham and cheese croissant sandwich. Then I also had to try a potato ball, a beef empanada and a couple of guava and cheese pastries. Versailles is a very popular Cuban restaurant kind of on the edge of Little Havana. They market themselves as the World's Most Famous Cuban restaurant--and they may be. On the outside, it has kind of a luxury appearance while the inside is kind of more like a food court, very practical. They do not seem to take reservations for small parties and not sure you need them--although very busy, they have a lot of tables and seem to have quick turnover. There is a bit of a wait, but a bartender who seems to specialize in mojitos (that were very nice). We were seated and then our server came quickly. My wife and I both had another mojito. We had eaten late and did not have appetizers, but jumped into the main course. They have a huge menu. I had slow roasted pork while my wife had red snapper. My pork came with beans and rice along with boiled yuca. The pork was cooked well, nice flavor. The rice and beans were a little bland, then the yuca was a nice surprise, they tasted like dumplings. My wife liked her snapper, but was not a big fan of the rice she had. The meals were a good value, there was a generous portion of food. They also came out fast, which is good if you are hungry. As a local i had never been here but went for dinner with family and not only was it the fastest service i ever had but the food was actually really good we were out of the restaurant in less than an hour. To start ordered the croqueta trio which had one chicken and two cod fish croquetas. For the entree had a Pan con Bistec which was very tasty. Came here to celebrate my sisters graduation from the university of Miami. At first glance this place is really fancy. Intricate tile mosaics on the walls. The insode looks like one of those high end restaurants in Havana. It's the fanciest Hispanic restaurant I've ever been too. The midnight sandwich and the fried tropical plantains gave me a unique culinary experience into Cuban cuisine. The sandwich was delicious although very dry in some parts. Decided to bring the family here during our vacation in August. The place has great food and atmosphere, along with a Mariachi band. Dielker was our server, who didn't speak English very well, which wasn't a big deal, because I spoke enough Spanish to make ordering easier; however, he failed to check up on us to ensure the food was good, or bring us refills on our drinks until we asked. When in Miami, one must go to Versailles. The wait was about 25 minutes on a weekday. They have a large waiting area outside complete with a bar for those who are waiting. The best part is there is a large parking lot for Versailles customers across the street. We enjoyed the Criollo and Classic Sampler Plates. It had a large variety of items and we were stuffed by the end of it. Prices are super reasonable for the portions and was good comfort food. I enjoyed the Cuban mojito as well. read more

Advertised as 'The World's Most Famous Cuban Restaurant', Versailles in Miami was founded in 1971 and today continues to serve up a variety of Cuban dishes at all hours of the day and night. My wife and I had the opportunity to stop-in on a weekday while we were staying in Coral Gables, and found the service to be very efficient and the food to be of great value (with some wonderful flavor). First, the result of some research: This original location is at the outskirts of Little Havana in Miami and is either named for the city in France or the city in Cuba (thinking it's the latter, which was named for the French city). It has no relationship to the chain of Cuban restaurants in the Los Angeles area with the same name. I like Cuban sandwiches, the Cubano, and of course they have it here. We wanted to come at a time when it wasn't so busy, but also a time when they offered their non-breakfast menu...so came between 10:30 and 11. Due to the huge amount of traffic going through the restaurant, Versailles has the intake process down pat, clearly showing what to do and how long to wait. It also has gigantic area for car parking, with even a dedicated spot for all the Uber dropoffs and pickups that occur. We were seated about 5 minutes after we indicated we wanted to dine in, and were seated. The restaurant is HUGE inside, and even during late breakfast time, much of the tables were occupied. Prices are shockingly low, to the point where one considers for a moment if they are in a dream about living in the 1990's. We only got to peruse the breakfast menu, which was good for my wife who wanted breakfast items. For me, I wanted the Cubano and other Cuban centric items, some of which was available during breakfast. Egg Combo ($5.75 + $2.50 for 3 thick bacon slices) - comes with choice of 2 eggs, breakfast potatoes, and Cuban toast. Cuban toast is a whole baguette, sliced in half and buttered: a lot of bread. Eggs were great, the potatoes were cooked well and plentiful, and the bacon was crunchy and meaty. A very filling breakfast for just $8.25. Cubano Regular ($9.95) - it's a big sandwich, probably 8 inches, sliced diagonally, with just half being enough to satisfy a normal appetite. It was stuffed with both ham and roast pork and had the requisite spread of mustard, swiss cheese, and pickles. Usually for sandwiches, I can't get enough filling (i.e. meat), but in this case, I would preferred a different balance. Less ham and pork, more mustard and thicker sliced pickled, and having the sandwich pressed harder and longer to cause a melding of the ingredients to create a new food item called a 'cubano'. This thing would cost $22 in LA, and would probably less ingredients too. Papas Fritas ($2.75) - shoestring french fries. pretty sure it had been sitting under a heat lamp overnight. Cafe con leche ($3.25) - a cuban espresso, came with a cup of milk and a small carafe of espresso that you can pour in yourself, to create the right balance. My wife loved it. Croqueta de Jamon ($1.25) - you can probably 3 of these and be filled for the rest of the day. It's a croquette, so if you like them, you would like these. Pastel Guayaba ($1.50) - guava pastry. so flakey and delicate...so delicious. Empanada Carne Frita ($2.50) - ground beef empanada, packed to the rim with seasoned ground beef. Freshly made, very filling, a definite must try. Service was OK...no frill for sure, and with the low prices meaning lower tip amounts for each table, so they need to be efficient to generate more volume and throughput. Result is that for non-regular customers, it's about getting us in and out. read more

We actually wanted the croquettes instead of empanadas but I guess she misheard us. The empanadas come with 3 pieces (chicken, beef, ham). What really stood out for the empanadas was the dipping sauce and we asked for extra to add to everything we ate. The calamari was just alright though. Just kind of crispy and a little bland. For my main, I ordered the Chicken Versailles. This was recommended by our waitress and I'm so glad I listened! It comes with dark and white meat, marinated in Cuban Mojo. I'm not sure what that marinade is but it was slightly sweet...really delicious. The white meat was kind of dry but that's to be expected. The dark meat was definitely the best part. Versailles is a great spot for large groups and a decent place to dip your feet in Cuban food. The wide range of options mean that there will most likely be something for everyone.
