We went to Vespa during restaurant week and loved it! The decor and outdoor seating was wonderful. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly and just cool. We had drinks and salads to start both of which were really nice. They have a unique draft option and a couple nice wines. The salads were delicious and fresh. We both ordered a pizza and they were really different which was refreshing. Evo still has the best Margarita pizza but my veggie selection was awesome and unique. My boyfriend had been there about 3 years ago and had a negative experience. Recently, we noticed that it was busy on several occasions, so we figured we give it another shot. That is the last time we will go there. The food was very bland. I had the caprese salad with "North Carolina shrimp". The shrimp was overcooked and definitely not fresh. I have been a big supporter of local restaurants during this difficult time. I believe in supporting businesses to help them with growth, and honestly making sure they survive. I realize we continue to be challenged with difficult times these last few days. And to be honest, I never have written a negative review because I have so much grace....but today I was met with so much disrespect from a restaurant I have ever experienced. So I feel the need to give a bad review. My friend and I were turned away at 4:00 pm for a 6pm Charleston county curfew in a Berkeley county business. Which I can understand and continue to have grace for, but the rudeness of which we were presented with speaks volumes for this restaurant. We walked down the street less than 600 meters and were met with so much respect and great service. The experience was so negative, I'm not sure I would ever return to Vespa while in a community I support and respect. I don't know the hostess name, but she should never be allowed to greet customers ever again. Appreciate the establishments that are giving great customer service. In Charleston for first time and staying on Daniel Isl. to be near family, my girlfriend and I ended up at Vespa's after finding no pizza place that would deliver to the Hampton. It was almost 9PM on a Tues., so we were a bit sceptical when the guy seating us said that they had been super crowded just before we arrived. Very friendly waiter, brought us everything rapidly and cleared things away almost invisibly. We split the Greek salad (+roasted beets), which was very tasty. Even before our pizzas arrived, my half-Greek girlfriend said she'd return just to have the salad again She ordered Vespa's Veggie pizza, and, since none of their many specialty pizzas spoke to me, I ordered mine with kalamata olives, pepperoncici peppers, and the house sausage. Man were we happy with our choices. Hers was very tasty, covered but not swamped by the veggies, and the house sausage on mine was tasty, surprisningly spicy, and not greasy. Our waiter must have refilled my water glass at least three times without me even having to look for him. I finished my whole pizza (hadnt had pizza in quite a while) and immediatly was sorry, both because i knew i was going to feel over-full soon, and because I'd be waking to find myself pizzaless while my girlfriend ate her remaining slices. read more

Very disappointing experience with Vespa last night and a missed service recovery opportunity by the owner today. I placed a carryout order for one pizza and a salad at 6:48 pm last night. Was told 20 minutes before ready and I went into the restaurant at 7:05 pm. First thing I did was pay for the order so I be ready to go when the pizza was done. Unfortunately, the wait had just begun. The pizza was not ready until 7:31...a wait of 43 minutes-BAD! I called today to make the owner aware. She gave no impression that she really cared nor wanted to hear my story. Gave lots of excuses. This is not the best pizza in Charleston and you pay a Daniel Island premium on the price. My advice: save your money and go elsewhere. read more

I just moved here from Seattle, and I couldn't wait to find a really good artisan pizza place instead of the crappy Papa Johns, Dominoes, etc. I was really impressed when a coworker took me here. Vespa has outdoor seating (and does take reservations so that's useful on a beautiful day like today!), which I love, and a variety of options to choose from. I ordered the margherita pizza. We were visiting from out of town and looking for something that was in a local area. We heard about Vespa Pizza and decided to give it a try. Absolutely loved the chef creative specials that they had to offer! The atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for on a Saturday night. The chef truly utilizes the wood fired oven in the most spectacular ways. The pizzas were not only amazing but the tiny details that came into our meals were noticeable. Tried Vespa tonight and had the pizza special that consisted of blue cheese crumbles, roasted chicken, pickled veggies (onion, carrot, cucumber) and drizzled with their house wing sauce. NOT what I expected, way better! The wing sauce wasn't your usual "buffalo chicken" orange vinegary sauce. It was dark, a little robust, and Packed with flavor and heat. Started off with the Vespa small salad that consist of pickled veggies, Red cabbage, arugula, and tomatoes. I chose the lemon vinaigrette. Nutty, light, fresh, and delicious! Remi had a kids pizza with cheese and calamata olives. Nothing special, but good. Looks like they have a pretty good selection of wines as well. I'm pregnant, so I'll let you know in 6 months ;) meal ended up at $27.45 which is average for two people on Daniel Island. I like it better than orlandos bc the menu has more to choose from. Love the environment here, can't wait to sit outside and eat under the whimsical ambiance. It was a rainy evening so we sat at a nice window seat. Sweet staff. read more

This review really deserves 3.5 stars. 3 stars for the food. The pasta dishes were pretty good but I wasn't too impressed with the pizzas. 4 stars for the service and the physical restaurant. The inside of the restaurant is not too big but the layout is nice. There is a pretty nice bar on one side and a pool table on the other. Their ovens are somewhat in the "open air" so there is a nice ambiance. Their website has been advertising "delivery coming soon" since they opened but haven't seen anything else yet. Sometimes I get real lazy after work and would appreciate delivery. read more

What a delicious dinner! I went here with my parents last night and we were seated right away. We ordered salads for appetizers and they quickly came out of the kitchen. I had a Caprese salad, my mom ordered some kind of beet salad, and my dad had a greek salad. The three of us split a margarita pizza with meatball on top. It was probably one of the best pizzas I've ever had. It was thin, crispy, and topped with fresh ingredients. Vespa is a great little place on Daniel Island with a neighborhood feel. Not a typical "pizza joint" restaurant; as they offer mussels, calamari and a Sloppy Joe w/house made bolognese. Vespa has a good kids menu as well. They have a great outdoor patio with good tunes pumping. We've been there a number of times, including before concerts on Daniel Island. (I've seen other posts on this topic) Of course they are slammed pre and post concerts, as expected. The kitchen is small so it should be expected that service would run a but longer at these crowded times. We have always had good service and the bottled beers are always served ice cold. (more local beers on tap are recommended) Good wine selection, which is a plus when ordering the Sausage wood fired pizza; our personal favorite. Overall, great place for a date night with the wife and a good family Friday night vibe. read more

Not many restaurants that pickle their own veggies! Sometimes though, they are out of "all pastas and sandwiches" which is a little odd. My husband and I came in on a Saturday night at 10pm. There were about 3 tables being used outside and 2 being used inside when we arrived. Inside we told the hostess we would like to sit inside and she aimlessly walked around like she was lost in the empty restaurant. There were only 2 tables being used and she couldn't figure out where to seat us. After a few minutes she offered the smallest table that was dirty. I asked her for a real table and pointed out that the restaurant was almost empty. She told me that we had to have a party of 5 to sit at any other table. We came in to have a few drinks and food there was no way we could fit everything on a tiny table. I'm shocked that a restaurant would turn patrons away! I can't believe that a restaurant promotes this horrible service. They need to teach their hostess and probably all of their other employees about respect and customer service. After we left the restaurant we found another one that was more than happy to give us a normal sized table and offered us fantastic customer service and food. Thank you for trying to ruin our evening! This is the email exchange after my complaint. The owner/manager is far from professional... Vespa... We are very sorry for for your experience. I really wish you would have notified the manager in person so we could have rectified the situation at that time. But instead you decided to go viral with your negative comments. Very unfair dont you think? Especially on one of our busier nights of the year with a sold out concert!! Of the thousands of people who came through our door sat, you were the only complaint. We would have gladly taken care of your bill had you verbalized your complaint instead of what you did which will get you nothing instead. Me... Wow what a polite response.
