This place is great. I've been here for lunch 10+ times and the food and service has always been good. All the different wood-fired pizza I have had has been excellent - prosciutto, margherita, pepperoni-bacon-sausage, fungi, biaca and the bella. The chicken parm sandwich is also very good. The chicken is cooked up fresh with a crisp/crunch crust. Always moist and tender. The chicken - a big breast - is big and overhangs the bun. The Vespa salad is another go-to pick. Always fresh. Always cold and crisp. Always good. Lastly, on nice days, they have the outdoor cafe seating. I have spent many lunches sitting outside with colleagues and not wanting to leave. One of the most solid performers on the island, my love stems from the pizza special of the day, usually with a choice from the nice wine selection. Last night I got a simple but delicious Caesar salad with the addition of smoked chicken and bacon. I had heard from others to go with light dressing which I did. It was excellent. Had a chance to go back to Vespa Pizza over the holidays. I was very surprised how good the food was this time. The first time I went I was not a fan because everything was so bland. This time it was delicious! I had the Chicken Alfredo for lunch and even ended up going back for a pizza for dinner. My friend who suggested going told me they have changed their menu to use all fresh produce and ingredients. You can really tell a difference. I also heard they are building on soon to enlarge the restaurant so that should be really nice - especially in warmer weather. Highly recommend going - great food and atmosphere! read more

I have accepted the fact that I'm not going to get the caliber of pie that I have come to know and love in Philadelphia, but that doesn't mean I can't find a gem or two in the rough, right? Well, Vespa is NOT it. Ignore the reviews. It's overpriced and lacks real flavor. Sure, the menu reads of wonderful combinations that would seem to back flip atop your taste buds, but that's all for not when it isn't prepared right. The pizzas are small, so they are easily overcooked and dried out. To be fair, I have given this joint two chances. Both were a miss; especially the Bella. Hey, I am all about fresh arugula, but when it overpowers the rest of the ingredients, it's no beuno. The only two redeeming qualities are the salads and the large outdoor seating area. The greens come in generous portions. The small is plenty for one, or even two to share if you're having it as a first course. So please... Do yourself a favor and order something other than pizza if you are forced to come here. read more

Not bad, but not great. Went here with some coworkers for dinner and were told they were only serving pizza and salad options due to low staff. It wasn't very busy at the time, but we sat and waited for our server for 10-15 minutes before even getting our drink orders placed. As far as the food goes, my husband and I split the black and bleu salad and a margherita pizza. The salad was delicious, fresh with a great balsamic dressing. Wow! Went to Vespa a little reluctantly at first as we were told it was an upscale pizza restaurant. Not only is the decor really cool (think American Pickers/Restoration meets a quaint neighborhood in Italy), but the food was refreshingly upscale comfort food without being pretentious. Brought my two children with me, and it was a perfect blend of kid friendly with adult sophistication. It was mildly crowded, but a good blend of families and adults dining in harmony. The beer selection was great (My personal favorite was the Leinenkugal's Summer Shandy). Good micro-brew selection, with a couple old-school retro's thrown in (Schlitz). Being a clean freak, this is the first thing I look at. The place seemed absolutely spotless to me, and I love the open kitchen just so I can see what is going on. My wife had pizza Bianca Pizza (excellent), and I had a make your own pasta. I consider myself somewhat of a pizza snob as I travel to Italy & Switzerland frequently, but Vespa rivaled anything I've tasted overseas. The pasta was delicious, and their was no "skimping" on the shrimp in the dish I ordered. Met the owner, seemed like he genuinely was living his dream of running a "hip", local restaurant. For all you "foodies" out there, you know the presence of the owner makes or breaks any restaurant. Price was certainly in-line with what we spend at other casual dining establishments Didn't feel like anything was overpriced considering the quality. Definitely worth the trip from Mt. They have the best salads, pickled veggies and love the house wine special! I went in after the Hootie concert last night and walked into an apparent domestic situation happening with the bar staff. I was there for a total of maybe 10 min (half of which was spent in the restroom) when I was verbally attacked by Lisa, the blonde bartender, and told to leave. Apparently she thought I was hitting on her manfriend (no interest in reality and none conveyed to him, her or ANYONE......). Suggestion- Get stable, professional staff that don't harass your customers and tell them to leave because of some perceived or manufactured personal threat. Very weird experience. Won't be back. I come to this place all the time with my family and it is such a great place especially because me and my friends can run around outside and normally we play princess on the benches outside. Glad I gave it a second try. The first time was when we first moved to the island and the pizza was just bad, My wife picked it up and we ate while unpacking. This experience was much better, I went inside and had chicken parm sandwich as I was a little reluctant to eat pizza again, the sandwich was good! Went there before and after the Zac Brown concert. Before the show service and food was good. Sat outside. Overall good experience. Stopped after the concert... what a difference. There was an extremely rude "Hostess" having what I can only describe as an emotional breakdown. They were busy, but far from full.. there wasn't even a line at the hostess station. We requested a table outside and this rude person, an older female... not a young inexperienced person, barks at us "NO" then yells at the waitress .." don't even look outside, put them ("put" them??) at anything you find inside. At the table, I ordered a beer and my girlfriend ordered a Cosmo... the same order we had earlier in the evening . The waitress says wait...I have to check. The same rude hostess, now walking by our table, loudly and within earshot yells at the waitress "NO... no Cismos..." Haha...I questioned the waitress and she said it was a decision made earlier that afternoon...and "there's nothing anyone can do about it." wow ..So my girlfriend ordered water. I thought about it for a moment and went to the bar. I asked if I could get a Cosmo and a very kind bartender , looking puzzled said "sure you can". By the time I got back to the table something resembling a plate of molten cheese was at our table. It was a lukewarm "pizza" that had been, quite literally thrown together and then "thrown" on our table. It was awful. We finished our drinks, tipped the waitress ( after pointing out the fact that there was a cosmo on the table...the public. And I want to point out again..they were not full and although busy, far, far from being packed. Whoever the super rude, childish, so-called "hostess" is... she should get another job. She does not have the skill or manners to be dealing with the public. My friends told me this place isn't too speedy with their service. The two times I have visited - I had a great time. Food arrived on time and the server was great. The pizza was good and they have some great craft beers on tap. . Outdoor seating is very nice and they often have fans to create a gentle breeze on those hot Charleston days. SIDE NOTE: I left my Ray Bans sunglasses at the table outside. I called about 5 hours later to see if they were discovered and sure enough - the server had grabbed them and was waiting for my call. Bad reviews the nights of concerts? Please, what a joke. Forgive them for not selling out and turning into a bar. I respect them for that. This place has always stayed true to who they are, serving great, fresh food. I eat there with my family or pick up to go at least once a week and they are the only legitimate restaurant with a legitimate chef on DI. They don't use Sysco foods... it really seems like they care about quality. Meatballs are delicious, my wife loves the arancini and chicken parm, kids love the spaghetti. Pizza specials nightly. I'm just passing through town and had dinner at Vespa. I had the steak pizza because I had a similar pizza at a place in DC and loved it. The toppings included caramelized onions, gorgonzola, and of course, steak. The crust was nice and crispy, though it got a little thin and soggy toward the center. That didn't keep me from eating the whole pie though. Very tasty. read more
