We have used Veterans Plumbing for a few years now and historically they were great. Not the least expensive option but they did good work. Lately however, that good work fell off a cliff for us. With our last two issues, a running toilet and hot water heater problems, it took three visits for Jim to finally get the toilet fixed but was unable to figure out the hot water heater issues. He did, however, charge us several hundred dollars for some new parts that didn't help in the slightest. He also rewired it incorrectly on his last visit, leaving us completely without hot water and forcing us to go to a hotel. Veterans did not acknowledge, apologize, or reimburse for any of this. I'm not sure what's going on with them but I will be finding another plumbing plumbing and would not recommend their services. read more

I had an intermittent problem with the toilet leaking. I replaced the wax ring several times which seemed to fix the problem only to start leaking again a couple months later. It turns out the problem was the flange that holds the toilet to the floor was damaged. Veteran came out the next day and fixed the problem quickly, along with a 2 year warranty. I'm never sure what a reasonable price is but they were better than most plumbers. Excellent folks. Highly recommend them. read more

This is the second time i hired Veteran Plumbing and could not be more pleased. I had initially hired them to install a water softener a few years ago and Jim did a remarkable job. This time around, i had purchased a new dishwasher from Costco, which included installation. On two occasions the Costco installer refused to do the install for various reasons. My wife and I moved to Northern Virginia nearly eight years ago. Shortly after we arrived, we used FH Furr for electrical upgrades in our home. My wife signed up for the FH Furr HVAC membership, which provided us with a discount on biannual system checks. Last week, we encountered a problem with our Noritz tankless hot water heater, so I called FH Furr. To their credit, they sent a technician to our home within two hours. Markus B. examined our tank and mentioned that he wasn't familiar with Noritz but would do his best to find a solution. He contacted Noritz customer service while I searched online for a new tankless hot water heater, unsure of what he would discover. I found tankless hot water heaters at Home Depot and Lowe's, starting at $600 and up. When Markus returned, he said that the part we needed, according to Noritz, was backordered until late April. We then began discussing replacing it with a new tankless hot water heater. I showed him what I found online, and he indicated that none of the less expensive options would be suitable. We needed a 199,000 BTU model with a minimum of 11.1 GPM. Markus stated that we would need a Rinnai RXP199i; naturally, that was a higher-end model. He stepped outside to call his manager for a quote while I searched for the Rinnai RXP199i online. I found the hot water heater that Markus recommended at Ferguson, and it was available for pickup that day. Markus returned and said the price to replace our hot water heater would be approximately $6,400. I was stunned since I had the exact model on the Ferguson website, with the heater itself priced at $2,100. I asked how FH Furr could justify a $4,300 installation fee. He said he would call his boss to see if there was anything he could do to lower the price. He stepped out and then returned with a quote of $5,500. Amazing, right? I thanked Markus for his time and said, "No thanks." He looked shocked. My impression was that he thought he had us over a barrel and that it would be an easy sell. He estimated that the installation would take 4-6 hours, or $566 per hour for six hours of work. He explained that they had to pay him and make a profit, not to mention that FH Furr would get the Rinnai unit at the contractor's discount. After Markus left, I went online and bought the Rinnai RXP199i from Ferguson, picking it up that afternoon. While at Ferguson, Travis (the sales manager) asked who would handle the installation. I told him it would be Veteran Plumbing, and his eyes brightened as he mentioned that Dennis was fantastic and would do an excellent job. I felt relieved and was confident everything would turn out fine. Veteran Plumbing arrived as scheduled, and it took about 3.5 hours to install the new unit. The quoted price was $850. They needed to add an expansion tank and some new piping, but everything was completed on time. The price was more than the initial $850 quoted on the phone, sight unseen, but Chris and Dennis explained this before starting work. Not only did Veteran Plumbing save me over $1,500 compared to FH Furr, but we also helped support a fellow veteran and their business. From scheduling with Angie to installation with Chris and Dennis, we highly recommend Veteran Plumbing. Prompt, polite, professional, and got it done on time at the quoted price. read more

Our garbage disposal started going in and out this past year and we decided to contact Veteran Plumbing to have it replaced. From start to finish Veteran Plumbing was very professional and we appreciated their clear communication. We reached out originally on Yelp to discuss what we needed fixed and they quickly responded to us and provided a time window in which they could come the next business day. After we provided our details they confirmed our appointment and said they would call us when the technician was on their way. On the day of our appointment Veteran Plumbing called us when the technician was on their way and gave us a time estimate of when they would arrive, all of which was within the time window we were originally given. When Chris arrived he took a look at the sink, gave us our options and prices, and immediately got to work. There was no pressure to continue service with them, but based on the pricing and our experience up to that point we decided to go with them. He even shared that we could go purchase our own disposal and have him install that or use the one of the ones he had. We appreciated the options and transparency and felt assured we had selected the right person for the job. It took him under an hour complete the job and he provided some useful garbage disposal etiquette to us for the future. While he was there we asked his opinion on another plumbing issue we were having and not only did he provide advice he also repaired that issue while he was there for a discounted price. If you are reading this review, most likely you were like me looking for a plumber that did not upswell you on everything, then charge you these incredibly high prices for parts and pieces that cost less than a few hundred dollars. I shopped around a lot!!! I spoke to 5 plumbers, three coming to my house and one company that just never showed and I could not stand any of them so I looked again on Yelp. Lo and behold VPS. I called and wondered if I was wasting my time- no way! They rocked. I spoke to Dennis the owner, a retired navy engineer and family man with a lineage of family who are plumbers throughout the US. Dennis came to my house and was beyond friendly, accommodating and understanding. He walked me through what we needed done, and how his workmanship is done at a higher caliper. There was zero pressure. He was the first plumber I actually trusted. We determined that the PRV and emergency shut off needed to be replaced, in addition to a new flange on the gas fireplace, and talked to us about our water heater. My toilet needed to be moved about an inch from the bathroom wall. My contractors suggested installing an offset toilet flange (too many problems) or moving the drain (expensive). Chris from Veteran Plumbing came out, looked at the toilet, thought for a minute, and then suggested I install a smaller toilet! My shower faucet cartridge needed to be replaced. I am an average handyman, and tried to do the job myself which is actually pretty simple. The issue I had was the cartridge seemed to be stuck in the pipe and the cartridge pin was not easy to pull so I decided not to mess with it and have a professional fix it.
