We hired Hicks Plumbing in March 2026 to repair a faulty pipe serving an upstairs bathroom sink after a leak caused water damage in our home. During that visit, Hicks recommended several additional plumbing repairs throughout our home that they believed would help prevent future leaks and water damage. Based on those recommendations, we authorized the additional work, including a repair to the water supply line serving our outdoor hose spigot. The total cost of the work was $5,946.25. Less than 24 hours after the work was completed, the repair to the hose spigot supply line failed, flooding our basement and causing extensive damage to flooring, walls, ceilings, and personal belongings. To their credit, Hicks initially accepted responsibility for the failed repair and assured us that we would not be responsible for the resulting damages. However, the restoration process revealed asbestos in areas that needed to be removed because of the damage caused by the failed repair. While Hicks paid for the asbestos testing, they declined to cover the asbestos abatement costs, despite the fact that the abatement would not have been necessary had their repair not failed. We were informed by Hicks' insurance company that their policy did not cover asbestos abatement and that payment would need to come directly from Hicks. As a result, we were forced to file a claim with our own homeowners insurance, creating additional expenses, uncertainty, and delays. What has been most disappointing is the lack of communication. After initially appearing committed to making things right, phone calls have gone unreturned and communication regarding resolution of this matter has been minimal. As a result of this failed repair, we are now thousands of dollars out of pocket and have been without the use of our basement for weeks. Our teenage daughter's belongings were damaged, sentimental items were destroyed, and much of her furniture and personal property remains in storage. We have been left coordinating multiple companies, all of which have been unable to proceed until responsibility for payment is resolved. This has resulted in time away from work, hotel stays during the abatement process, countless hours managing claims and repairs, and numerous unanswered phone calls. What began as a preventative plumbing repair has turned into months of disruption, expense, and stress for our family. Based on our experience, Hicks Plumbing did not fully stand behind its work when the consequences of its failed repair became significant. read more

I use Hick's both professionally and personally. As a property manager, Hick's is my go-to plumber for all level of jobs. They are particularly good with their cameras in the event you need to look deep into you home's drain lines for problems. I have used them for snaking clogs, new plumbing installation (toilets, faucets, spigots), repairing faucets, replacing mains (under concrete), and one particularly ugly situation in a small crawlspace fixing an improperly installed sump line that emptied into a sewer line. In all cases, problem fixed professionally. I also use Hick's for work at my own house. For other reviews that mention Hick's is expensive ... the only conclusion I can draw is that those people have never hired a plumber in the DMV. Our company uses no less than a dozen different plumbers depending on location and job (we manage 700 homes), and Hick's is very competitively priced and offers great quality. They are not cheap, but they are definitely not expensive for this area. Over the past few years, Hick's reputation has grown, and they can be very busy. Had an emergency with my mom on this Memorial Weekend. SATURDAY MAY 25TH, 2024. She's 86 and clogged her toilet with an item. We needed it ASAP because that bathroom is on the same level as her bathroom. They came quickly. Tony unclogged it in less than 15 min. We had a plumbing emergency early on a Saturday morning. My husband couldn't get our shower water faucet to turn off and I couldn't get our water main line to shut off either! I called Hicks plumbing and a nice lady on the phone said that Tony would be right over. He arrived about 20 minutes later! He was able to diagnose the problems and then run up to Home Depot and get the parts he needed to fix our bathroom faucet. He also fixed our water main shut off downstairs in our basement. I asked for services of Hicks Plumbing and was delighted that the response was so quick as I discovered that the affected toilet was continuously loosing water from a failure of a water level control valve. $200 was a fair price to pay but I was upset when quoted $450 for replacement off a shut off valve from the wall to the toilet. I was sorry I was not more assertive in saying no to that portion of the job as I noticed that that valve was leaking water on to the floor after I closed it off and then turned it on again. I've used Hicks Plumbing Svcs twice now. Both times outstanding service, I highly recommend them. We had a years-long problem with a drain that we had snaked yearly to prevent backups. Hicks was the only plumber after all those years who diagnosed the problem correctly. He located the cause of the backup, not the symptoms. The second time was for something minor: a leaky valve. My main water supply line ruptured under my front lawn, and after hearing the good reviews and recommendations of Hicks Plumbing from my neighbors (who had the same problems in the past), I called Hicks early Monday morning. Tony Hicks came out to my home within 90 minutes, and gave me a quote that was very reasonable and within the price range I was expecting (it was also half of what another plumber quoted me). He promised to start work that day. Later that afternoon, maybe around 5pm, a 2-man crew showed up with a Bobcat. They worked till 1am digging, and cutting and pulling out the old water supply line from the curb water meter into my basement. They dug around and under our patio sidewalk, put back the mailbox, except for some dirt that needs to settle over the next several months; the landscape damage was negligible. The guys were very professional and courteous. We felt sympathy for them working into the night using lights from the Bobcat and flashlights to finish the job. Technician told my husband he just needed to contact Kohler, order parts and he could fix it himself. First off, he told my husband to order the wrong part. I had a sink cut off valve that was leaking. I attempted to fix it myself but the old compression ring would not come off. Compounding the problem, when I put the old valve back on the compression nut cracked. Now I was stuck. I need it fixed so water could be turned back on. I called several "24/7" plumbers but none of them could help. I used the Hicks Chat Line and was connected with an operator who was able to schedule an appointment for that day. Tip: Just call the number because the chat function took a lot of unnecessary time. I was told the plumber would be at my house in 1-1.5 hours but he showed up within 45 minutes. Tony fixed the problem in about 20 minutes. He was very professional and did not mess around. I would use Hick again. read more

If you would like to wait HOURS on end just for a call just to see when someone will answer your call with a simple ETA of when your plumber will arrive to give an estimate, then this is the place to call! Here's the scenario - my appt was scheduled between 3-5pm. This appt was made the night prior. For a broken water heater 30 or 40 gal tank. At 4:30 PM I call to see the status, Kristine/wife/office lady states the plumber JUST got to a job and will text you with an update.... (mind you my appt was first (3-5pm) but 4:30 miraculously the plumber showed up there instead of mines bc my issue wasn't as "important". At 6pm -no answer, numerous calls made. NO RESPONSE. At 6:15 - she replies via text 'sorry cant talk right now'.... we asked for ETA no response.... At 6:45 - numerous calls again made, no answer UNTIL my husband uses a new work phone to call, this woman answers (probably thinking possibly new customer) says oh he's coming, he's coming I told your wife I will update her 30 min before his arrival. We again stated, keep us updated with an ETA - this is all we are asking for. We have been waiting for almost 4 hours at home at this point. At 9 PM - 6 hours later - NO update. So we text, Kristine/wife/office lady states plumber is busy.... sewer back up... etc. At 9:20 - she states: "I have cancelled a couple of his appts tomorrow and can squeeze you in between 11/12 with a 50gal tank" WHAT? you mean I'd have to take off work again to see if you will even show up or call? AND I simply stated I had a 30 or 40gal tank.... she replies "But 50 gal is cheaper and your insurance plan only covers sooo much - Plumber will call you shortly" - We get several missed calls between 9:50 - 10:20 PM. At this point, we are livid! These texts went on until 11:30PM - and no, I am not kidding. I have texts for proof. In all - Unprofessional, no acknowledgement what so ever. No apology was ever made until a complaint was put in through my insurance this morning. The main issue is accountability - you don't leave your customers waiting for an answer for 4-6 hours after your initial appointment - Just reschedule for a diff time/day! Call someone else to avoid being put on the back end of the burner bc my issue wasn't 'big' enough or money making enough for them to send someone out to come and take a look. My family and I have been out of hot water for 3 days now. I rather wait this out and find another plumber then to receive service from Hicks. read more
