This place is amazing! I would give 10 stars. Right when you walk in the door your anxiety and stress melt away. It's already a stressful situation when you have a sick pet. All staff are helpful and caring. I would not take my fur child anywhere else in an emergency. This new emergency veterinary group was very good. It has an open concept set up where an owner can stay with their fur babies. Billing is done via email and all the cost of treatment is itemized and first approved by the owner. Facility is modern and very clean . Our veterinarian was very nice and knowledgeable. Unfortunately,they don't have a Cardiologist to perform Cardiac ultrasound / echocardiogram. For that ,I will be going to Encina Emergency Hospital for a more reasonable price. read more

I've lost the little card asking me to review this emergency vet. group. So, will post on Yelp instead. Three weeks ago (which now seems like 10,000 weeks ago,) I took my sweet cat to this emergency vet based on reviews, hours, and semi-proximity.. They were efficient. It was a Sunday. One must remember it IS like an emergency room for people. It's busy, there will be wait time. They will do their best to keep you informed. But it is still an emergency situation kind of thing. They were kind, and placed us into a private little area while they checked my baby out. She was not, of course, pleased to have her head shaved, and be amongst strangers. She's skittish. Always was. But they did their very best to make her feel better. The let me stand in to watch a small procedure (huge to my cat and I, but necessary,) and I appreciated being able to be there for my girl...even though I was pretty freaked out at this point after so many hours waiting. They took samples. I was told to call back if I didn't hear anything about test results. I was sent home with drugs, but not really any aftercare. Oddly, that all happened after everything was said and done and I had had to call back four times to get reports. It's just as well, as she was refusing pain meds, and could NEVER have tolerated a cone of shame. She barely tolerated being locked in a room alone for so many days after we got home. I had to call back several times before anyone could tell me anything. The second doctor was clearly very pressed for time, which makes it hard when hearing words like CARCINOMA, and so on. After doing my own research on her cancer, and seeing how much my little girl was moping, and unhappy and in pain, and REALIZING her outcome even with the most aggressive of intervention may have brought her another one week to twelve months of life? But what kind of life? Missing legs? Jaws? Ears? I finally had a long hold, and brushing out of her fur, and she and I 'talked' about what she'd want. I knew she'd not want to go through all that for such a diminished quality of life. I wouldn't either. And so, I called a different vet to come to my home the following week, one who only does this sort of thing, to help my dear baby get to the other side of illness, pain, and lack of quality of life. I burned sage, lit candles, sat in the garden with her in my lap, and gently helped her move along ahead of me into that other place. Into a better place out of pain. All of this happened SO fast and has been SO hard I can barely talk about it. However, in spite of the difficulty in communication between the facility and myself, and being told they were just reading 'what was in the book' to me about her cancer- I would very much recommend them. Particularly the doctor who first saw us. I miss my little girl tremendously, and am still in shock at her abrupt loss and how I could have missed so many earlier signs. She was good at hiding all that. A survivor to the bitter end. I'm glad I was able to get her over to this hospital. It was not inexpensive. as emergency vets rarely are reasonable, but I could not have had all the information needed to help my dear one to the other side of the fire without them. So, I think this place for that. By and large, my little girl got good care there. read more

I cannot recommend VEG enough for emergency pet care. Twice in the last month when I was traveling, my dog Murphy was not doing well, not eating and the person caring for my dog, took him to VEG. The care that he received, the love that he received, and the empathy of the staff was so far above any experience we've ever had in an emergency situation. They were kind, responsive, and did all of the right things to take care of my fur baby until I could get home. I would not hesitate to bring my fur babies here in the future. read more

They carefully examined him and went into emergency surgery. We were with the doctors and nurses every step of the way. I'm so glad we found out about this place. We were actually going to take our cat to another vet and one of the negative reviews recommended this place. Our cat was suffering with a suspected urinary blockage. We took him here and in less than 2 minutes he was back at a table and being worked on. They took no time to assess the situation. He was given pain and nausea medication and had his bladder was inspected. The doctor came out right away and confirmed he had a urinary blockage and discussed the treatment plan. Expensive... VERY... but well worth it. Everyone was very friendly and capable. They kept us updated on the progress the whole time. He spent about 36 hours at the vet. We were given medication and some food samples to take home and recommendations on how to possibly reduce the chances of it happening again. I hope we don't ever have to come back but if something happens to either one our pets, this is the place they will go. read more

We had to bring our sweet seventeen year old kitty to be euthanized on a Sunday. We felt that waiting even one more day would just prolong his suffering. The staff at VEG were so compassionate and gentle with our little guy, and with us as well. Although they were pretty busy, they were able to take care of our situation promptly, and we feel that their fees were very fair for this area. To summarize: extremely fast care, no padding of expenses, reasonably priced, good people, incredible experience unlike any other. We live in a small town that does not have an emergency vet. Consequently, over the past few decades, we have been to various emergency vets in towns about an hour away in each direction & on numerous occasions to each one. Our experience at VEG was so unlike all the others in the best of ways start to finish. I called ahead of time about our male cat who couldn't urinate and immediately their efficient system initiated. They took basic info over the phone to be prepared to receive him as a STAT case. I received a very short form to fill out via text (took less than a minute to complete) and didn't have to fill out anything once I arrived. When we arrived, they immediately took him (with us in tow) to be seen at once. A vet (Dr. Lauren Spencer) with a team jumped into action within a second of the intake person saying "STAT possible bladder obstruction" to assess his vitals and the vet within the first seconds had palpated his bladder and splooged gel on his lower abdomen and was doing an ultrasound of his bladder before his other vitals were completed. I am not exaggerating when I say it was within the first few seconds... it was astonishing. They were in full blown crisis mode as if he had been shot. They literally rushed the table to take action. It was like a triage MASH unit in there. There were other tables and patients and their people at various stations in one large ER with small private rooms around the periphery. It seemed that within seconds she had determined that he didn't currently have an obstruction because his bladder was small and empty, but had feline lower urinary tract disease. She inquired about how recently he'd had labs and because it was just over a month ago and they were all normal, she found it unnecessary to run labs at this visit. (This was so different from other ER visits). I immediately felt that they were being mindful of not running up expenses and I did not see any charges for the ultrasound on the bill either. She explained the course of action for his care. As soon as the vet assessed him, she had us move into a small private room to reduce our cat's stress and to give further details of the medications being prescribed, including one to prevent recurrence of stress related FLUTD, and answered our questions. We did not feel rushed at all even though it was a MASH type scenario and she was very informative and kind. She explained everything and asked if I could receive for review his estimate and medication authorization via my phone prior to administering it. She left the room to tend to other patients and with no pressure on us to review the estimate and medications. The complete exam and consultation were done within 10 minutes. After that it was just us reading the info provided and him getting an injection and the take home medications getting prepared along with discharge paperwork and instructions. They had a comfortable loveseat in the room (I noticed they had the same kind of seating around the periphery of the ER too for families to sit while their furry ones were being tended to, but most people were at the exam tables with their pets the whole time) & offered us coffee or water & said to let them know if we wanted anything while we looked over things. The whole thing took less time than the drive over there. The final bill was less than $500. I have never been to an ER vet without it taking hours (including filling out a lengthy form when you arrive and waiting to be seen) and without feeling pressured to do expensive procedures or for less than thousands of dollars. Everyone was kind, made us feel that our cat was important and they were extremely focused on their work and patients and never once did any high pressure tactics. We drove over there, had the entire visit and got back home in a fraction of the time that we spend at other ER vet visits alone. I can't recommend VEG highly enough & can't go anywhere else now that I know about it. read more

The overnight team - doctor Katy , Danielle , Tasha and another staff member ( forgot her name) was were very cautious and attentive. Usually for emergencies I will go to my regular vet ( VCA) however last night there was not a surgeon on site so on the low they refer to VEG. The team did x-rays and was luckily able to induce vomiting, so we didn't have to worry about potential surgery or having to wait for the snaps to pass. I was able to be close to my dog during every step of the visit, which I appreciated. And of course, my pup enjoyed all the cuddles and attention. Everyone was very respectful, knowledgeable and kind. They showed the utmost care and consideration for my pup and myself. I have a 9-year-old cat and she gets sick often with allergies with runny nose, she couldn't smell so she is hungry. Other vets gave her antibiotic, but it doesn't work because she is having hard time to take medicine in the past. I took her to VEG, and Dr. Shannon Rudin was different instead of giving her antibiotic she suggested to give her another kind of medication, and she went home within couple hours she seems relax and breathing better that allowed her to eat again. My only concern is the vet asked me to allow her to put her on the scale in the lobby area, and i was afraid she might run away if the front door happens to open if someone walking in... But they agreed to bring my cat to a room for examination because i refused to let my cat out in the lobby area. This vet is new so it is not as busy as other places so waiting time is less, it reduced the stress my cat had to deal with - I am happy about that! read more

Even my husband, who before our experience with VEG was an avid Vet hater claiming Vets were the worst scammers of all has changed his tune and now believes that there are good vets out there. I can't say thank you enough to the VEG team at Pleasant Hill! I found VEG on yelp after being told that my 6 year old female cat had a bladder stone that was blocking her urethra at another urgent care clinic. The situation was very high stress and emotional to say the least, but I'm glad I found VEG so quickly. Immediately upon walking in I was greeted by the receptionist and taken to a room. The Dr came in after about 2 minutes and my girl was on a table getting her vitals and blood drawn within 10 minutes. Everyone was extremely knowledgeable and I was walked through all the next steps for my cat's procedure. It was nice to be able to be with my cat through every step and I was given the option to watch her through the window of the operation room during the procedure. Although, the surgery was experience (as expected) I ended up paying a little less than I was initially quoted. This was the best experience I've had with taking a pet to get veterinary care. This was the third time over 3 years that I have interacted VEG. As always the response from everyone on staff was one of caring both for my pet and myself. From the counter and tech personal (I'm sorry that I don't have all of the names) to Dr. Gascoyne the care of my Billie and then myself was as if we were family. Again the end result was not what any of us wanted but it is what was needed for my girl. Dr. Gascoyne was very kind in helping to reassure me that my decision was the right one for the conditions that she was facing. This is never easy but it helps a great deal when you have the support of everyone involved. I'm so happy VEG opened in Pleasant Hill! I visit at least once a month with rescue pups and have always had great care. They are thorough, compassionate and explain care options completely. I love their open floor plan that lets you stay with your pet during procedures instead of having them disappear behind a door. I was dog-sitting my granddog while my daughter was on vacation. Yesterday, we took a walk to the bank, and on the way home she picked up something (looked a little like a white Cheeto) and swallowed it before I could get it out of her mouth. She seemed fine, but once home, was a bit lethargic. That progressed to verrrry slow eating of her dinner (NOT like her), and "strange" behavior (kind of shaky, couldn't seem to walk well, not at all active.) I carried her outside to pee, but she just sat in the grass, shivering, looking at me. Decision made; I had to get her to a vet ASAP. Something just wasn't right. And I am so glad I found this Vet ER hospital on Yelp! with such good reviews. Talked on phone with them; woman couldn't be nicer, suggested I bring her in to evaluate unusual behavior. It was about 9:45 pm. What a fantastic, CLEAN, open ER this was! I am incredibly grateful to the vet assistants for IMMEDIATELY setting "my" dog up on a table for an exam and getting vitals taken so quickly. I'm only sorry I didn't get all their names. The vet (Dr. Kaylyn Carver) came over, petting her, and was amazing, and said she thought this was a case of marijuana ingestion as this pup was showing all the signs!! Whaaat???? "That white 'Cheeto'?? Could have been discarded marijuana. We've been seeing quite a bit of this recently." OMG. Then they planned some tests, brought me a PRINT-OUT of what it would all cost (and said I did NOT have to stay or do any of it; it was up to me) and I gave the go-ahead. Her pupils were dilated, couldn't really hold her head up or stand (very wobbly), and most concerning, her temp was only 94 deg. (typical for toxins.) They immediately put a "blow-up" warming blanket around her (just like the ones the human ER's use!), and multiple assistants came over to draw blood, check on her, just bring this poor pup some comfort. She wasn't in any pain; just seemed confused and very lethargic---all signs pointed to a toxic, NOT good marijuana "experience." Over the next TWO HOURS, they kept checking her temp, petting her and talked soothingly to her, and it very slowly inched up -- and all blood work came back normal. (Whew!) Once her temp reached 99 deg. (took a couple of hours), we were discharged w/ detailed instructions to keep her warm, in a dark room, let her sleep, etc.---but to bring her back tomorrow if she got worse, or didn't get significantly better over the next 12-24 hrs. I am so incredibly grateful for all the genuine CARING at this place! And the respectful concern for my daughter's dog, as well as the professional expertise EVERYONE exhibited here. The TLC my granddog got from this vet, her assistants, staff, just EVERYONE here, was outstanding. Kudos to the Veterinary Emergency Group in Pleasant Hill!! You are amazing. read more

Pro: +1 They got us seen immediately. +1 You can see what the vet is doing with your pet. I hate when vets take my pets in the back & I can't see what's going on or comfort my pet. Con: -1 As a cat owner, I don't like the open treatment center with other dogs around. And I was worried someone with an emergency could fly through the doors with a dog & startle my cat. I would like to see a divider in the middle of the open floor space so cats come in one side, dogs the other side, & my cats won't have to see any dogs. There could be an opening between the 2 for vets to handle both sides. -1 The vets are straight out of school with not as much experience as other vets would usually have. -1 Extremely overpriced, as most ER vets are. read more
