I had taken my cute dog to Veterinary Housecall in Crofton. This was a regualr check up, I wanted my dog to be in care of a veterinary near me, connected with my dog and very happy to take on the care of my dog. I wanted both my dog and I to know we have a veterinarywho cares. The front desk staff at Veterinary Housecall were so kind to squeeze me in for my dog's appointment, I had gotten the time mixed up but looking back I believe they should have told me to come back, bc they set aside a solid hour to look at all pets and get to know him, I was not aware of that, being a new dog mom. As it were, the visit was rushed and anxiety built up with my dog being apart from me, alone, with strangers. I felt uncomfortable to let him go into another room for his examination. Come to find out, my dog had matting on his tail, ears and around his groin area. The doctor came in after my dog's examination and said she was going to shave him because of matting, I have him groomed but not close for discomfort. The assistant and I comforted my dog as the vet did the shaving it took about 10 minutes but I felt rushed and my dog had severe shaving burns on his private area, lower tail area and top of his head. It looked as though my dog was a completely different dog and in pain. She didn't give advice for medication of antibiotic or advice on a compress...nothing. I had to Google what the vet should have suggested or advised. He spent most of the night crying and not able to be comfortable bc of the redness in the areas shaved. It was a terrible thing for him with no relief from Vetenary Housecall. Another issue was the billing person who was very rude after I was prepared to spend $80, as was told to me, the first regular visit is to be, when I made the appointment but it escalated when the doctor shaved him, in which I was not aware that she would at that time. The billing person walked in and was extremely unpleasant, this person lashed out, then mentioned to me, that person was not informed by the staff of the visit type and assumed it was for shaving my dogs tail matting and I was there for that purpose of shaving my dog and did not want to pay. That was so terrible in that assumption. I called this morning and the front desk duo were understanding of my dogs pain but not willing to help with medication unless I sent over pictures of the redness in the groin and tail areas. I am so fed up with that whole business. In this experience, I must say, I did not do my due diligence with regards to looking for a more caring owner/pet veterinary facility. I thought of closeness and familiarity within the community rather than the caring attention, communication and quality veterinary care for my dog and for me bc us pet parents deserve all of that. My advice, as a new dog owner, ask neighbors who have pets, ask people at dog parks and just know your pet and being an owner of all pets do deserve the very best care and gentle treatment as our children do. read more

This veterinary clinic was recommended to me by a fellow animal lover. We recently moved back to MD, and my sweet pup needed to get his yearly exam and vaccines. He can be a bit anxious, but he was totally at ease here. They were kind, thoughtful, and thorough. The prices were reasonable, and everything was discussed up front. Unfortunately, there was a little miscommunication regarding one of his shots. He had a grooming appointment scheduled for Sunday when I noticed he was missing the vaccine on Saturday. We received a diagnosis of lymphoma for our cat on a Monday. I called and spoke with the front desk and the customer service rep was extremely kind and helpful. She reviewed our options for euthanasia, and I requested at home. She went ahead and took our information, gave me pricing and took a credit card so we wouldn't have to deal with payment while we were dealing with the loss of our pet. She then requested that we call back when it was time. Unfortunately, it was time within just two days. I called back Wednesday morning and they were very good to schedule within our needs. We had requested 5 pm, but our little girl was fading fast and I had to call back for an earlier appt time. Dr. Mike Golden came to our home at 4 pm to euthanize our cat. We were, and still are devastated but Dr. Golden was extremely kind and this was the least traumatizing euthanasia I've ever had to be a part of. They won't help your animal when you really need it even if you are their patient. Very quick to sent you to emergency room. When I called to schedule appointment regarding a gland expression Erica The Receptionist sent me with my cat to the Emergency Room as she said the gland was ruptured!!!!!! and she would not acknowledged that this was not an issue with my cat nor get an from vet tech or veterinarian. When my dog's regular vet couldn't see him for several weeks, even for urgent care, and the ER in Annapolis had a 15 hour waiting period, Veterinary Clinic & Housecall Service came to the rescue. They accepted my dog as a new patient and took the time to get his records from his usual vet and really listen to the list of things I'd been noticing. I appreciated the very frank and medical discussion. After trying several different veterinary hospitals and finding none as good as my previous one (Greater Annapolis), I discovered Dr. Ruth and Veterinary Housecall Services. Excellent service, reasonable prices, and she is extremely thorough! After discussing various options for my shepherd who was starting to have hip problems, ranging from adding supplements to seeing a specialist and surgery, she typed up everything we had discussed (4 pages!) to include food and supplement recommendations and names and numbers of specialists I could contact. She has always discussed all the options available and the pros and cons of each. This is an EXCELLENT place! I also did make use of their housecall services once, when I had two large dogs and a cat in need of vaccinations and didn't feel like stuffing them all into the car. Adds to the cost, but definitely worth it if you have an animal that's afraid of the vet's office. BTW, having worked as a Veterinary Assistant through high school and part of college, I think my expectations might be a bit higher than average. read more

I love this practice so much, I have known Dr. Schmoll for 30 years and Dr. Golden at least 15+years. It is so nice to have them come to me. It makes life much easier. When your fur baby needs to go to heaven, they can help, in the comfort of your arms in your in your home. Luckily I haven't had to go through that in 14 years. Clean, modern facility in an industrial park type strip mall bldg. Was referred here yrs ago by several, heralding Dr. Nancy Ruth as the best & as having moved to this practice. Although not the best bedside manner (not many dr.'s do these days it seems) nor clear @ proceedings (ditto), she did go out if her way to empathize with & facilitate w/my budget restraints when she didn't have to/many vets won't. She also often rapidly hypothesized btwn several diagnoses which although often confusing & doubtful to me, indicated she was at least thorough, knowledgeable, & covering all bases. She also sent a very touching, enlightening email after I had emailed her an update that I had to have 1 of my pets put to sleep after a chronic illness became debilitating & was feeling racked w/guilt. However, a couple yrs later, when I went to inform her that another pet of mine, that she had cared for for some time, had passed on his own: I was informed by staff that she had a med. emerg. & no longer worked there & that they couldn't provide further info. Needless to say I was floored. I can understand privacy issues & all, but even when I kept following up weeks & months later: I was told the same thing & it wasn't clear whether they knew more but couldn't tell me or if they actually didn't. Mind you, I was also very worried for her health of course, not just for my pets to see her. Finally many months later, I tried again & was finally told she was working at another hosp. & actually told me which one, but no brief explanation of what happened (privacy taken into account of course), why she left the practice after, nothing. Just didn't think that was professional nor trustworthy. I was unable to follow her to new practice bc she moved even more distant than she already was from me at VHS. Also, like the other commenter said: review your services, bills, & Rx's bc miscommunication & billing errors were common when I'd go. read more

Make sure the meds are right, make sure your bill is right, and make sure they perform all the tasks you have requested. My family and I have been taking our pets to this establishment for easily over ten years. I have always been so impressed by the facility and staff. The facility is very clean and the staff are very friendly and extremely informative. They will always listen to you and really take time to answer any and all of your questions. Recently, one of my cats fell ill but we weren't sure why. They immediately fit my cat in for an appointment and were so accommodating and comforting since I was extraordinarily concerned for the well being of my cat. All of the staff are rock stars, but we had the pleasure of meeting and working with Dr. Kanackery (spelling?). He was so thorough, extremely knowledgeable, and very caring. He was able to get our cat back up and healthy and made a point to make several follow up calls to check up on my cat and see how he was recovering. This meant so much because it really proved to me how much they genuinely care about the well being of all animals being brought in.
