I took my dog to our normal vet because she was limping. He told me she 'just had arthritis" (she is 11 yrs old) and to start a daily regimen of doggy ibuprofen. When that didn't work, I had a friend recommend VOMC because she noticed my dog was physically moving in the same manner as hers was prior to being seen at VOMC. VOMC was soooo careful yet thorough on the first visit. Following X-rays and examination, it was determined that not only did she have arthritis, she had hip dysplasia and a torn ACL. They prescribed anti inflammatory meds/pain meds and immediately scheduled ACL surgery. Needless to say, I was worried because of her age. They reassured me she'd be fine-- it was a quick and easy surgery. The day of surgery was a long day. My dog pranced in to the office without any limping nor a care in the world. The office called before surgery, as soon as surgery was complete, as soon as she woke up from the anesthesia, and when she was ready to go home. They were very explicit in 'take home instructions/after care.' All follow-up appts had already been set and physical therapy appts were already made, as well. Doggy Physical Therapy???? Physical Therapy had been a wonderful experience. My girl is food-motivated and LOVES the therapists. They've used laser light therapy and physical use therapy, thus far. We still have to try the under water treadmill but my girl is already back to running like nothing was ever wrong. She does hop occasionally on the hurt leg but NOWHERE near as often as pre-surgery. Our 5 1/2 year old boxer (Sheba) started limping. We were recommended by her vet to take her to VOMC. Everything from entering the office to leaving the office has been a WONDERFUL experience. The staff and Dr Erne are AMAZING and very compassionate when it comes to their patients. She has had surgeries on both knees (TPLO) and they are there every step of the way and take extra time to help you understand the entire process from beginning to the end. They answer emails or Dr Erne will call you in a very timely manner. I would NOT take any of my fur babies anywhere else. That office takes better care of their patients, then I have seen in any other veterinary offices and medical facilities. The nurses call when surgery is about to begin, Dr Ernie calls you when he completes surgery and explains the surgery to you, then a nurse calls you to schedule a discharge time. The discharge instructions are very explicit. A nurse will call once patient is home to check on them. VOMC has been a life changer for our 12 year old mixed hound. Dr. Nicole and her assistant, Araceli, have been working with us for about four months. Our vet recommended them for acupuncture therapy to improve our dog's quality of life. His hip joints had deteriorated to the point where he had great difficulty sitting, standing and walking. Her acupuncture, along with Adequan injections and Galliprant pills has had very positive results. He is much more mobile, happier and more vigorous.
