I would love to start off by thanking Chris and Miki for always helping me out and being so knowledgeable. I am a newer salt water aquarist and my tank would not be where it is today without them. They remember whats in my tank and always ask how the fish are. They always greet me right away and thank me as I leave, even if I just came it to see the stock. Awesome customer service! I have been to pretty much all of the other salt water fish stores in San Diego. No one compares to the cleanliness, selection and, most importantly, health of the live stock that Vets-Pets has to offer. Chris always gives me tips and behavioral expectations on each fish. Shows me what they are currently feeding on before I take anything home. Miki showed me the Dwarf Lion and what the lion prefers to eat and how to feed him. If you are looking for reasonable prices for the best quality you can get in San Diego, this is the place. I will always and only ever go to Vets-Pets for my reptile and fresh/salt water needs. Awesome pet store with great staff. They have a fantastic selection of fish, but just a mediocre selection of reptiles, which is why I stopped at four stars. They only have four or five employees that I've met, and all of them seem genuinely happy to be helping you, they are all very, very knowledgeable about their animals, every single one of them is a pet owner themselves and they are all passionate about their jobs. I used to buy mice here every week and volunteered at the attached vet office (formerly ABC vets) - the guys are very knowledgeable when it comes to reptiles...I can not vouch for their fish, as I am not a fish owner, but I do know they have a nice selection of both salt and fresh water fish. I CAN say that this is the best reptile store in East County San Diego and I highly recommend it. read more

The Male manager there told me that if I bought a certain type of fish they would get along with he fish i already have in my tank , and he also said i would definitely get my money back if things didn't work out. welp things DIDN'T WORK OUT and I never got my money back. 30$ down the drain never coming here again . horrible service . read more

Great local independent store with very friendly staff. Service was excellent and very helpful. Because it's quite a small place it's good to call and ask if they carry whatever you're looking for, most of the time they'll order what you want if they don't have it. Which is probably why I notice different stuff every time i go in there (both supplies and livestock). Also a great place to donate any unwanted freshwater / saltwater fish / reptile or to thin out an overcrowded aquarium. will be coming here more often read more

This is the best place to buy salt water fish in san diego. The staff are knowledgeable, prices are one of the best, and the fish are healthy. You can ask about a specific fish and they'll let you know if its eating right or not, ie mandargin dragonet or copperband butterfly. read more

AWESOME DEALS! Cruised over from Ocean Beach just to get a steal, they have tons of hidden gems! Their saltwater corals And invertebrates are excellently priced and will definitely come again! He's not just trying to sell you things to sell and make money, but he is genuinely concerned for you to have an awesome experience with your aquariums. This is the only place i shop at for aquarium supplies. They will special order any fish or products for you any know just about everything there is to know about. Sick fish? no problem, because they have the solution. Even for a small store their prices are competitive and usually even beat petco and petsmart. They have my lifelong business. read more

I started coming to this place when I began my fresh water tank. After about 7 months of considering them my lfs, I have now jumped into salt water. For some it may seem overwhelming or extremely difficult if you have little experience. But, I purchased everything (saltwater owners know that investment) from Vets and they couldn't of been more helpful. I feel confident that my tank will flourish knowing I can ask a ton of questions and receive quality answers. Some places make you feel like an "outsider" when crusing around their stores...not this place. Very helpful, very good pricing, very cool staff and seems the normal customers are just as cool. DO NOT COME HERE!!!!! I bought a turtle here and when I got to my house I saw it had puffy cotton feet and when I looked it up on the internet it said it had fungus and when I went to the vet they said it was about to get in it's blood stream. A week later I asked for my money back and they would not give it to me saying that it did not have fungus when I bought it. Plus everything there is overpriced. read more

I always get good advice regarding tropical fishkeeping here, and on more than one occasion have been given advice that meant I didn't have to buy anything from their store-- that's one way to tell they are being honest and not just trying to make a buck! The store isn't huge, but they have a good selection and if they don't have the fish you want they can order it in and keep it under observation for you. I try to go here to even just buy fish food, because I'd much rather give them business than the big chain stores. read more
