I had been meaning to do a bunch of repairs on my house (which is just about 13 years old and remediated 6 years ago) and was trying to reach out to different people to do different jobs with varying levels of success. The result was a backlog of things to do and coordinate with different parties. I originally reached out to David for some help with repairing a shower door that had fallen off. He replied quickly and showed up to do his estimate as scheduled. While he was over, he looked at a bunch of the other things that I needed to have done and offered to do them as well. He repaired everything in one day only a few days later. I have to applaud David for his courage to start his own business. But this makes sense for him. He knows he is good at what he does and he is organized. He is highly professional in his correspondence. He will outline precisely what he intends to do. He is timely. He is versatile in the tasks that he can perform. He possesses initiative. And he will follow-up with thorough documentation of what was done and needs to be done. Payment is also easy and he accepts a number of modalities. I have attached some of the pictures he took for the various jobs including: 1. Window blind replacement 2. Water valve and supply line replacement (more details below) 3. Ceiling fan remote control failure diagnosis 4. Watersealing of door threshold (more details below) 5. Tub spout repair 6. Shower door repair and adjustment (I contacted a bunch of people who would not offer to do this) 7. Sliding door repair (which another contractor said they would fix but never did) I want to comment in particular on his ability to diagnose problems. For the longest time, my kitchen faucet had slow flow. Just the kitchen faucet. Over the years, I contacted perhaps 3-4 different plumbing companies. They recommended ridiculous things like increasing the water pressure to the house (which didn't make a lot of sense given that the other faucets were fine and was impossible because the pressure was already maximized) and even replacing the faucet altogether (which would cost $220 for the same model and not resolve the underlying problem). David diagnosed the problem as excess calcium build-up in the valves and he was right! He knew the answer when all the professional "tradesmen" did not. I also have what some people would call a "lemon" for a house. The contractors that built it did bad job. It was remediated but even after this remediation, I had problems. One of them was the balcony door which would leak water when it rained. I contacted the builder and they said that my second warranty had expired and they recommended how to repair it. Suffice to say that they were completely wrong and David uncovered some pretty shoddy workmanship and commented on the unorthodox remediation which would lead to the problem. I should have had David remediate my house. Overall, I am exceedingly happy to have stumbled upon this gentleman and would be pleased to refer him to others. He is basically the "doctor" you want for your house. I hope he stays in business a long time.

While I had a basic idea of what I wanted, I debated getting a formal project manager to handle coordination of the full install. With a ton of experience doing this kind of install, Marcus helped out so much that I was pretty much able to handle coordination of the main pieces and personnel without needing to hire anyone else. He did a great job making the vision come alive and was transparent with any problems that arises (and importantly fixing them when necessary). He was friendly, fair with pricing, and also very quick-- framing and installation took only 2 separate, spread out days (to allow for drywalling and parts arrival in between). My personal experience with him in terms of communication was excellent, but I also purposefully avoided peak summer season so as not to catch him at a busy time. I would not hesitate to hire him again.

Met with Nate in about a built in desk and a built in entertainment center in December and he told me he was booked 2-3weeks out. I said, sure no problem, we can handle it in January. Come mid January, he tells me he needs more time. I say sure. Come February I reach out and no answer. Called, emailed and texted, still no answer (mind you I had already given 50% down to him). Finally after not hearing from him for almost 3 weeks he responded and saying he was just getting started on building the cabinets. It's now mid-March and he finally got to installing the units. But don't expect him to arrive at the time he says. He was consistently 2-3 hours late to the time he promised to be here (which required us to adjust work schedules). First day he arrived at 2:30pm after saying he would be here at noon and then had to come back on a Sunday because he couldn't finish it all in one day. Now that's just the communications part, as for the quality of the work. I have been very disappointed. I had asked for a 1.5" wood top on my desk. After install I've noticed it's a single 3/4" plywood top with an additional 3/4" plywood strip on the front to make it look like it's 1.5". Not only that but because it's plywood there are obvious seams on the desktop. And the front is covered with a veneer which bubbled in multiple places and even though he came to glue it back down still does not look great. There are seams in multiple places where he could have easily gone with a full piece of dimensional lumber instead. There are screws protruding on the side of the cabinets which are the only sides that face out so would have expected the screws to be hidden. He left part of one of the tops uneven, even though I brought to his attention before the painters came, so he had to come back out and fix it and the painters had to come back out and fix the paint again. Also when he put in the shelves after the paint (because he didn't have the shelf pins and had to order from amazon), he scratched up the paint pretty badly in pretty obvious places. I've worked in construction as my dad was a contractor and I fully understand things happen or sometimes things don't work out as planned but for the price I paid I would have expected much higher quality and less chasing to get this completed.

We ended up hiring him to extend our kitchen cabinetry to the ceiling and add crown molding to it, as well as add trim pieces to our cabinets' blank sides before we had them painted. We received a vast range of estimates. While Alberto was not the lowest, he seemed both fairly priced and knowledgeable. We got a bit overwhelmed by all that we were planning and backed off of our project for a bit. Then it took us a while to find slabs that we liked for our new counters. Once we did, we were ready to move forward. It had been 5 months. When we circled back around, we called Alberto, as we had previously decided that he would be the contractor that we would hire. He didn't seem to mind our delay, although his estimate did increase some. To be fair, this is 2023 and inflation has been terrible. We hired Alberto and his team (Alba Construction) to drop a pony wall, square off an arch, redo that drywall and paint in that area, paint 2 large 2 story interior walls, demo our kitchen counters, demo 4 bathroom vanity counters, demo the kitchen backsplash (in preparation for new counters and new backsplash), cap a pot light and drywall over, install 2 new drop lights over the kitchen counter, and install a pot filler line. He had 5-8 different guys that he lined up for different days and they each had different specialties. They showed up when he said they would and they did their jobs cleanly and efficiently. Alberto was also here working and supervising a good amount of the time. They cleaned up after themselves and finished on time. Overall, we are happy and wouldn't hesitate to hire Alberto again.

During the painting process as well as after, Archie and the crew of Miguel and Juan, provided advice in caring for the exterior over the next few years ourselves so that the look will last for many years. My experience with DGP painters was extremely frustrating and disappointing. They prolonged this…read moreproject significantly because they were not putting in the required time or manpower. They had 19 days to paint 4,000 square feet without interruption but could not get it done. In the end, it took 26 days and they caused me significant unnecessary stress, and left problems that I will have to pay someone else to fix. However, I would rather pay someone else than allow them back into my house. In fact, I believe that they lied by telling me multiple times that they were working towards making various deadlines, then making almost no effort to meet those deadlines and not acknowledging their passing. They consistently blamed whomever they could for their lack of progress, even when they had ample opportunities to complete their work without interruption from others. They did not take accountability at any point. When we have discussed delays, Stephen and Archie frequently cite interruption from the other contractors. Other than a mold remediator, whose work could not be paused due to safety issues, I did not allow the other contractors into the house until 19 days after the start of the project, which was far after both their initial and subsequent estimates for when they would be done. Similarly, I have repeatedly communicated to Archie and Stephen that I did not expect them to complete the work in the areas that have been quarantined by mold remediation before our move-in date. That means that I was expecting them to paint less of the house than we initially had talked about, which should have taken them less time. I also communicated with Stephen about when I have intended to have the other contractors start ahead of time. I have visited the job site nearly every day since before the start of the project, sometimes multiple times a day because it is close to my work. I have seen what areas have progressed and what areas have not. I have communicated with my contractors frequently. At no point has DGP taken responsibility for the delays. DGP has been incredibly frustrating to work with. I have tried to be patient and polite, but they have made that extremely challenging. I hope that sharing my experience can help others avoid DGP painters. Pierce claimed that he was an expert on repairing windows with rotting wood. He came out and…read morestarted working. About 2 hours later I went to check on him and he was packed up and heading to his truck without even telling me. The windows were not even halfway done. He seemed nervous and claimed that he had a personal emergency. He came out the next day and same thing, he worked for a couple of hours and left without finishing the job. I called him and he said he finished. Neither of the windows close and one was too long and the other was too short. I will most likely have to replace the windows after what he did. He committed to returning yesterday but did not show up nor return calls and messages. This guy, from my experience lacks professionalism and competence.

My microwave oven range hood is not satisfactory and the smoke alarm goes off all the time because I cooked a lot and generated a lot of smoke. I found TX5J Handyman ("Daniel & Crew") on Yelp and contacted them. Danel came over, did a detailed FREE inspection and gave me a competitive quote in 24 hours. I then decided to hire them for the job. They came in at 7:30 A.M. in the morning to beat the summer heat. It requires piping and extension exhaust vent directly to outside top siding. It was not an easy job but they completed the job at 2:45 p.m. I am completely satisfied and happy with Daniel & His Crew. Photo is attached "Before and After". P.S.1 It's beautiful isn't it? Yes, they even did the "white box" enclosure (so you won't see the pipe) between the roof and the under cabinet that holds the HAUSLANE range hood to make it look first class+style. I got frustrated and started a project on Yelp, TX 5J handyman responded very fast to my inquiry and came on the same day to give me estimate. Then gave me a very honest diagnosis for a short term fix and long term fix. I went with the short term for now and they came back the second day to fix it now the drain doesn't leak anymore. Daniel is very fast response to my inquiry over the text; and they did a good job fixing it at a decent price. Highly recommend for others to use them.
