3.5 for me...I really wanted to love this place but some of the cakes were just a lot of pretty show and lacked substance. The cannoli cake... The cannoli on top was delicious but the rest of the cake fell short. The cake itself was dry and crumbly and had an odd flavor. The cheecake wasn't cooked all the way through it seemed so it was a goopy mess in the center so the whole cheesecake slice had fallen flat by the time we got home. There was an almond cake slice we took home as well and that tasted more citrus than almond. It was good but nothing to write home about. Took home some tulumba as well and that was very good. The guy helping us didn't seem to really know too much about the cakes or what was a customer favorite... But at the least he was handsome. The cake was delicious and very beautiful! I was a little worry because it was a chocolate cake but when I tasted it was amazing. The chocolate mousse gave the cake a different texture. Where to begin...I came to an event in the indoor garden to celebrate a friends bridal shower and it was so nice that I decided to have a bridal shower and the outdoor garden area for another friend. Thanks to Ana, The whole process was stress free. All transactions happened over the phone and via email. She always was attentive, returned my calls and answered all my questions. She didn't just speak to me, she also welcomed all parties of the planning team to call her. (Which they did to discuss decorating) Decorations and display was beautiful! Ana saw our vision and put it all together. Although we bought some decorations, we really didn't need to use it. We did bring the flower centerpieces. They created beautiful menus with the brides picture on it! Since we had in the outdoor garden I was afraid if it rained,however it did not and there was tent in case it did. The garden and layout was beautiful! The food was delicious (I would say simple meals). It took a little long to come out however, they made it up by letting us stay a little longer( there was also another party take place, so they were busy). The cake taste Amazing! We ordered a custom made Raspberry Lemon cake. The decorations on the cake was exactly what we asked for! The Waiters were very friendly and attentive! They refilled all our drinks and always catered to our needs! The whole staff in the bakery greeted us with smiles and were very professional! The Victory cafe is great, not the sweet shop -came especially here tonight to see what they had to offer? Admittedly it was closing time, and I took a look around and the pastries did not seem fresh enough to order..fair enough..so I ordered what looked like a traditional baklava..which I hadn't eaten in a while...and as expected the pastry was not fresh. Out with a group of friends on Saturday night I stumbled upon this place around 10:45pm after a great meal at nearby Taverna Kyclades. We come up to the place and it so large, but so empty. Even though the sign says they close at 2am we were hesitant to walk in because we thought they may be closing early. We ask if they were still open? yes. Can we sit anywhere? yes, please! We choose the large corner banquet in the front of the place (rookie mistake - i'll explain in a bit). We peruse the vast menu and I get up to look at the case of all the beautiful looking desserts. The service was excellent with our waitress coming over and all of us ordering our coffee or teas. Most get Greek coffees and I have to say it was probably one of the best I ever had with the texture being silky smooth and the sweetness level perfect (I got it medium). Even my tea drinking friend kept sipping her husband's Greek coffee stating that it reminded her of hot chocolate. I agree - a nice little cup (I had a single - the large is american sized coffee cup, which my friends had). Since TK was all out of complimentary desserts and a friend in our party never had Galaktoboureko many of us order that with my wife getting the Kataifi. The waitress says I will go next door (to the bakery side) and get some - it is very fresh! She comes back with a tray and asks if we wanted the desserts warmed. All get it warmed and I prefer mine on the cooler side. It was very good (and fresh!), not the best I ever had, but perhaps if I had it warmed it would be. Everyone enjoyed their orders. As we are sitting we realize the place is not as empty as we thought with patrons exiting from glass doors in what we originally though was the back of the place. After investigating I realize they were coming from the beautiful garden area behind those doors. THIS IS WHERE WE SHOULD HAVE SAT! The front is also very nice, but the back is like another world. SoO disappointed!!! My husband just went to get some sweets and I'm very upset. For starters everything has fell off hard. He was helped by Nikos...1st he asked if the napoleon had custard in it and he said yes, wrong. It was whipped cream and tasted horrible. Then the Galaktobouriko seemed like the guy cut the piece in half because it was literally half of what it usually is. We were shocked. The Melomakarona were so dry and old. They fell apart into crumbles and they are not supposed to be like that. Lastly, I tried the butter cookies with almond topping filled with chocolate, barley any chocolate, tasted nothing like a butter cookie and barley had any chocolate filling. The cookies left a horrible tasted in my mouth and pretty much everything went into the trash. Idk if it's the Pandemic and they have cut back but that isn't my problem. I am still paying for something and I expected it to be good. They're are many other businesses that I will give my hard money to. Wowww...where do I start with my review. Found this place simply by goggling online for an indoor out door brunch location, instantly fell in love with it. Met with Anna along with the bride and another bridesmaid. Anna was very sweet, very helpful and answered all my questions and concerns. We were greeted with some coffee and deserts while we sat with Anna who customized a menu for our event and help her very best to work with our budget. After meeting with Anna and agreeing to have our event at their venue, she gave us all the information we needed, we left our deposit and I kept in contact with Anna who assured me every step of the way that our day will be PERFECT and not to worry. The restaurant does all the setting up and most of the planning for the day, which left us bridesmaid stress free and so we can enjoy the party along with the bride and guest. At first I was a little set back by the idea of only have 30 mins if we needed to make any changes. The policy is that you drop off your items a few days before and her staff sets up everything for u. I met with Anna a few days before and she took detail notes on how I wanted everything to be set up. I am so use to setting up everything my way and I was a little scared of her staff not being able to bring my vision to light...BOY was I WRONG...they did an amazinggg Job with bringing my vision to light. EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT....EVERY DETAIL. The only thing we had to do when we walked in was arrange the flower centerpieces which I had with me. The staff did an amazing job with hosting and making our guest feel welcome, very attentive and wore a smile the entire time. The food was amazing, the coffee, the desserts, the mimosa...everything was amazing. The cupcakes were amazing and the bakery did a great job. Anna also offered to do personalized menus for the day with the brides name,...which added a nice touch. After my morning eye treatment I headed rt over to the infamous VictoryBakery in none-other than in Astoria, NY where a visa is still preferred but not mandated for non Greeks to enter. I began with a cappuccino and a traditional "tyropita" (feta cheese pie). Oven baked perfectly; the phylo was perfectly crisp. Did I use the descriptive 'perfect'? As for the taste it was a bit blan. A touch of blk or white pepper and why not a touch of dill to give it a gastronomical orgasm as u bite in. Scale of 1-10, 10 being highest, I rate it a 8.9 almost 9. As for my dessert, the traditional "galaktobouriko" a farina based custard, upon first view was a scale of 9. Upon first bite, on the same scale rate, a deserving 4. Why? It was just pulled out of the fridge ( I'm sure to preserve it from spoiling because of the eggs and milk content & it's the right thing to do) but the wrong way to serve it. Couldn't sense the texture nor the faint notes of lemon or orange zest or vanilla perhaps of this delectable dessert. Thank goodness it wasn't baked either. Nuking makes everything soggy when served. But don't ever never serve this cold (that's a personal preference only when at home; leave it at home). Victory Bakery however still remain and reign in the the top 3 spots of many Greek bakeries throughout NYC. A must visit & now U know how you should order it to b served. read more

I have been patronizing this place for years and i am a great customer, unfortunately a few times lately i have been very disappointed with their sweets, stale, stale, stale. My last purchase i paid $200 for 2 trays of galactoboureko and 1 tray of baklava which i was taking to Boston for a christening. The sweets were disgusting you couldn't eat them if you tried, of course i was embarrassed with my guests and very disappointed. A few days later i called and spoke to the owner George who took no responsibility and did not care but most of all he was very rude, instead of trying to compensate me for the garbage he sold me. The Gray's Anatomy textbook describes Amygdala as almond shaped groups of nuclei located deep within the brain, shown by research to perform a primary role in the processing and memory of emotional reactions...and appear to play a role in binge drinking. Amygdalota are Greek almond cookies that can similarly stimulate either pleasant emotions (from consumption) or negative emotions (from fear of scarcity or sadness from deprivation) - and play a role in binge eating as a result of addictive indulgence and withdrawal. So, I wasn't born in Greece and have no childhood memories of visitors showing up at my house with a ribbon-tied box from a Greek bakery containing these simple, wholesome, and rewarding cookies. Light, perfect with coffee (or in my case: as breakfast!), or as a snack, these cookies outshine Amaretti, Pignoli, Macaroons, and any other category of cookies in the extended family. Crisp on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside, topped with sliced almonds, and infusing the air with a whiff of almond scent, Amygdalota are positively intoxicating - and would be the ode of many a poet. Particularly if they were from Victory Sweet Shop that makes the best version I've tried in the city, with the freshness preserved as they do in Greece - by wrapping them in plastic. I've shared them with coworkers, who've raved about their lightness, having anticipated a heavier, traditional cookie instead. Victory Sweet Shop may be the premier exponent of this cookie in the city, but they are not limited to one trick. Their Melomakarona (or Finikia) are also the best in the city, besting my prior favorite version at Artopolis bakery. These shortbread cookies have been soaked in syrup until they are almost like the Indian Besan Laddoo in texture, but Victory's version helped me understand that the texture is intended to hold its form right until the moment you bite into it, at which moment it crumbles into sandy pieces until it dissolves in the mouth and becomes one with the soul! Even people who aren't fans of honey syrup sweets (like my Mom) fall in love with Victory's Melomakarona (hints of cinnamon, clove, orange juice)! Freshness. That is not a word I use with Greek bakeries, for it is extremely difficult to maintain the necessary turnover to keep a fresh product on display. At Victory, the phone is ringing non-stop to place an order, and whatever remains is likely to be scooped up by the foot traffic. So, obviously, not everything will be as fresh as one could wish for, but a tell-tale visual sign is whether the tray is almost full. You can almost be guaranteed of freshness, unlike the same visual stimuli at other bakeries. I've had excellent Baklava, Saragli, Galaktoboureko, Kataifi here, as have I had wonderful Karidopita (walnut cake), Shamali and Ravani. In fact, I've learnt to tell the difference between the latter two - thanks to the exceptionally superior and light versions at Victory Sweet Shop. So, yes: I've been cheating on you, macarons..... It was my sisters birthday and I was in charge of getting her a cake and of course silly me, I left it up to the last minute. I hadn't been to victory since before they renovated it and added the whole victory garden cafe and from what I remember they always had really good treats ( their tsoureki is phenomenal). Anyways I go in to the old bakery part and asked if they sell cakes like for a birthday and they tell me yes but next door where the garden cafe is. I go up to the display and I'm looking at the cakes and treats and waited for about 10 minutes before anybody asked me if I needed help. A few of the cakes I saw looked ok but somewhat small and boring (typical mediocre looking bakery cakes) so since I was pressed on time I asked for prices so I can get the cake and be on my way, I was extremely disappointed at how expensive these little cakes were. It was around $35-38$ for their cheapest if I remember correctly and being that they're small I didn't think it was worth it but got one anyways and the cake itself was definitely not something to write home about. In all honesty I liked victory better before they became all fancy with their "garden cafe", they always had reasonable prices and very good treats. I just had my cousins Baby Shower here yesterday and it could not have been more perfect. From the very beginning Ana could not of been more pleasant and accommodating to EVERY single detail of the event. My family and I can be pains in the asses from of specific food allergies to how we like things set up and Ana honestly could not have been more perfect. She had asked me to drop off my decorations the night before the party and she took some notes on how I wanted it to be set up and she made it look better than I had even expected. She even made custom baby shower menus for the event!!! Alright, I have the joy of living a block from this place. Everyone's on the money: $15 will get you a packed tray of about 20 delicious mini Greek pastries, great to bring to a party. They've got baklava and all those many things that are like baklava but not quite. And yes, they are kind and attentive, explaining what things are and carefully packaging what you buy. Here's what I hate to mention, but have to: something tastes just a little bit off to me. It's the honey--it is not honey, it is sugar syrup, and it's making a big difference in everything they serve. Truthfully I don't go often for this reason, despite living a block away. Trust me, I want to be happy here, but it just has left an off taste in my mouth each time. BAKLAVA! It was pouring so hard we could barely see the street signs. But my partner had to have baklava! I used my Yelp phone app and found we were one u-turn away from this perfect-sounding place. I got a few melomakarona which were horrible extremely dry and crumbly seemed as though they have been sitting on a tray since easter threw them in the trash. Also got a piece of galaxtoburiko which was just okay at best tasted like it was a few days old and very small slice almost looked like the guy cut the slice in half and then gave it to me. I'm a Greek poser. I'm half Greek but I don't speak/read it, I don't hang out with other Greeks, and I'm not religious/never go to church unless my yiayia visits and she makes me go with her. So basically the bulk of Astoria dislikes me. That said, I remain true to all food-related Greek traditions I grew up with. Some things I make myself [spanakopita, baklava, etc;] but I always buy a vasilopita for New Year's [the one with the dime] and tsoureki for Easter [the one with the egg] and I always get them from Victory and they're always delicious. A little expensive but good. If you wait until the last minute to get them, be prepared to be crushed by a bunch of pushy loud broads and to not really receive the same uber friendly service as they're getting because you give a glassy-eyed stare when the employee starts speaking to you in Greek but really, you'll experience that in any Greek-owned operation. This location was a great place to have a summer bridal shower. The bride to be and the guests really enjoyed the lush atmosphere. The presentation of the dessert table was impeccable and made for great photos. Also, the waiting staff were very friendly and attentive. They made sure pitchers were always full and that everyone had everything they needed. The menus that they made fit perfectly with our theme. They also had some bridal shower decorations with them, which was a plus. The chocolate mousse cake that we got was absolutely DELICIOUS! The guests were raving about it. However a big complaint I have, is it not being like the picture we sent and the fondant was WAY too thick. Like three-quarters of an inch. Which made the cake unnecessarily sugary. Since we did a brunch, there were appetizers and a meal. It seemed that more thought went into the appetizers and the meal was just okay. I think this is a great place to have birthday party or a shower. Thing ran smoothly and guests were awed by charming and earthy outside venue. We did learn a couple of things that lacked attention to detail. We had purchased some of our decorations outside of what the venue provided. We were not advised that the decorations we purchased not being enough for the way we had it intended. Instead, they haphazardly had the decorations up above the dessert table where everyone takes pictures. It did not look nice at all and definitely not the way we wanted. The bill comes with event planning consultation so I would advise making sure you ask to come in at least an hour advance in case you need to make changes to their setup. We asked but were they do not allow anyone to arrive any earlier than 15 mins and that was not fair because by the time we arrived, we could not make any changes to the decorations as guests were already waiting. Anna was great. Very professional, detail oriented and understanding. She responded to me promptly about being able to squeeze in my order to be picked up the next day, and she followed up to make sure they understood my customization requests correctly. This rating is based around my purchases around holidays like Easter, New Years, and Christmas. Around the above holidays, the pastries such as the macaroons, tsoureki, and baklava are fresh and very tasty! Make sure you go extremely early though (when the place opens) so you can avoid the crowed. Considering the place is small is to begin with, add over 30 Greeks in there and you got yourself waiting outside or squished in some corner. Where do I begin? If I had to choose one word to describe my experience at Victory Sweet shop it would be... strange. I came here for dessert after dinner with friends. We walked in about 10:30pm and it was nice to see people sitting outside. Upon entering, the staff was very attentive but we couldn't figure out where to go or what we just walked into. Was it a bar? a restaurant? a toy shop? We wanted to browse the pastries and had to enter a separate section but had to be directed by staff because the layout was very confusing. I just don't get what that place is supposed to be... I also hate to see food establishments with fake flowers!! this is a well known DON'T for any place that serves food. Fake plants and flowers collect an absurd amount of dust which will eventually fall somewhere... think about it. I think this place has potential to be a nice establishment if they chose one focus instead of every direction. Finish construction, get rid of the clutter and fake flowers and maybe it would be a nice place to hangout but it was way too much going on for my taste. read more

After a night out, we wanted to stop by a bakery for some sweets. We were passing by Victory and decided to come here. The bakery was incredibly tiny with a very limited selection of pastries and there were boxes covering half of the display cases. After taking one glance at what they had to offer, I wanted to walk out. There wasn't anything there I really wanted to try except the Oreo Cake. We wound up getting six different types of sweets to taste. Everything we got was awful. I don't know how old these "sweets" were, but none of them were even remotely fresh. Their karithopita was dry and left a repulsive after taste. The German Chocolate Cake was nasty. The Oreo Cake that I was looking forward to tasting was disgusting and stale (I took a couple bites, spit some out, and threw the rest away). They should be ashamed to sell this old, stale trash to customers. YUCK! Never again! read more
