I passed by this spot and was lured in by their beautiful Thanksgiving/Fall decor! It looked very inviting, and the cakes looked super delicious. I was looking for a small treat, so I ordered a small hot chocolate, a beef empanada, and chorizo with a mini arepa. I also ordered a dozen mini bunelos to enjoy at home! The bakery is consistently busy, and throughout my time there, there was always a line of 5-6 people waiting to place their order. Most people were doing lunch special takeouts. I ordered the beef empanada, which was nice and crispy. I thought the filling itself was too mushy for my liking. It feels like the potato and meat were pureed, which is not the consistency I usually expect. The chorizo and arepa were pretty good and what I expected. The small cup size for the hot chocolate... is pretty tiny... lol And the hot chocolate was made with dark chocolate, which I don't particularly enjoy, so I asked for milk. The cashiers gave me no issues when I asked for more milk, which I appreciated! The mini bunelos were my favorite! They were delicious and yummy and the perfect treat to share with family and friends. While I liked the decor and the ambiance, I do have to give their food another try because I do think it was just ok. I can get better empanadas elsewhere. Their food is decent if you don't mind waiting and would like a cute cafe to sit in. Service 1/5 Two times already, first time asked for utensils and had to come back for them. When I asked they were rude and gave it to me with attitude. Second time, asked for a batido de mora WITH sugar. Same lady. AGAIN, had to come back to ask for sugar because that was sour. She just threw the sugar container to me with attitude again. I've eaten here twice during different seasons of the year and both times I have been pleased with the experience. This small bakery has a wide variety of foods from breakfast thru dessert. It is clean and well kept. The faux lemon tree inspires a lot of kids to reach up. It's cute and always a delight to see something so simple inspire so much joy. The service is excellent and the prices are a little bit higher than some other places but the quality is high too, as other reviewers have mentioned. In the background is music with infrequent commercials. It's the pop songs we know but in classical format or simply classical piano music. The soursop con agua sin azucar is tangy in a good way. If you can't handle fruit tang they can add sugar and/or blend it with milk. The churrasco de pollo was good. I wasn't expecting dark meat. It wasn't over salted either, but it could have used some salsa verde or extra ground pepper for a little bit of flavor. The salad is a good size and has a little dressing for extra flavor. The rice was al dente and tasty. The plantain was cooked to perfection. The pollo con crema (soup) was excellent. I would come back here for that alone. The donut... I'll take a bite now so there's no suspense! I'm not sure of the name of it, but it looks like a Boston cream. The cream isn't as tangy as the cream inside of a Dunkin Donuts Boston cream for example. It's much lighter. The donut itself is cakier and softer. The chocolate isn't overpowering and the sprinkles add a nice crunch. The last time I was here, I had one of the egg platters on the menu behind the register on the wall. I believe it was #3 (see photograph). They misunderstood me and gave me two orders which explained the cost , but I ate both in one sitting because it was THAT good. Ordered a tres leches cake to eat at the bakery. Didn't realize how big the cake was until it was served. I couldn't finished it all so I asked for a to-go box & was told it was $1.... Ummm that is ridiculous. Then once I paid it was $1.09! Taxed for a box that I would've gotten for free if I ordered to-go. That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. For starters the waitresses have an attitude and give push back when theyre being corrected on an order. they speak about the client while the client is waiting to be attended to. Its unprofessional. I tried the one in Astoria first and wasn't loving it. Expensive and not to my taste. Ordered food from Mario's and went o get dessert to this one and service was slow. Two women behind the counter with 3 ppl ahead. Got the Oreja, the cream custard pastry and a chocolate donut. The glaze on the pastries make it look plasticy. The texture is bready not like a dessert. And not sweet. My favorite place is on Roosevelt ana 91st but they only take cash and I was heading in the other direction. I gave it two chances. This is not a traditional looking Colombian bakery. It is modern and sleek and you can tell that this place caters also to the yuppies in the neighborhood. For example, they do have familiar items like pan de bono, bunuelos, tres leches cake, empanadas and mini bandeja paisa. But they also offer an American breakfast, espresso, lattes, red velvet cake, tiramisu, cheesecake, and other American bakery staples. The prices here are also higher than other Colombian bakeries in Jackson Heights. However, I have eaten several things from here and the quality of everything was very good. I walked in recently after checking out the beautiful Thanksgiving/Fall decor outside upon entry. That's right! The presentation is on point. I came in wanting empanadas and walked out with said empanadas. I ordered two chicken empanadas which were delicious! They were made with the corn shell and tasted so good. I also had to try the empanada de cambray. It was tasty. Filled with queso blanco (cheese), dulce de guayaba (guava paste), y miel (honey), it was yummy. I came here with my brother last night. I was first attracted to it because the outside of the cafe is filled with flowers. I love flowers and thought it was beautiful. I had a Colombian coffee and got a guava pastry and a cheese pastry. The coffee was one of the best I have had. The pastries were also very good. My mother and I stood in a line with 5 others on a weekday in the afternoon for over 10 minutes with the line not moving an inch. There were 3 ladies behind the counter, all chit chatting, with 1 of the ladies tending to 1 customer in the front of the line and the other 2 that have no care for taking the next person in line. It's like the customers didn't exist. Super strange, as if they didn't want the business - there are other bakeries in the area with quicker and attentive service with great cakes too. Stumbled upon this place after eating dinner across the street at Papas Kitchen. The decor of this restaurant caught my eye and made me want to venture in. The lady behind the counter let us know the decor changes seasonally and focuses on things from Colombia. It was so beautiful I could sit there everyday. I order the guava and queso empanada and a Colombian coffee, which is coffee and hot milk(Cafe con leche). The coffee here is amazing I thoroughly enjoyed it. The empanada pastry was good but no better than average and I wouldn't run back for it. Next time I would just drink coffee here and maybe bring a book or some work. read more

From the outside this cafe is cute & inside, it seems clean and cute. However, our experience here recently has convinced us (and we've already told others in this neighborhood) to never give them our business again. As soon as we went in, we felt an aloofness and unwelcoming air from the associate behind the the counter (sadly, we got that strong unwelcoming air b/c we weren't Latino/spoke Spanish when ordering). We carried on, despite their continued unpleasantness and disagreeability, and ordered about $30 worth of food and drink--a tad high but everything is a bit more expensive these days. We placed a good tip in the tip jar (despite not really deserving it). We sat down for a few minutes. The drinks we ordered for our 2 toddlers were too hot, so we went up & asked one of the staff members for a small extra cup. The staff/counter person asked her colleague in Spanish what we had asked for & then with a familiar & standard-unfriendly-tone-reserved-just-for-us said, "It's 50¢." Ummm, no. This just added to our overall dismay & uneasiness we felt. What's worse is that the cookies weren't that great; they tasted "old." This is an honest review but because it's from our POV, it's completely subjective. Therefore, if you've had a nice experience here, good for you but we will never give this place our time & money again, which is a shame since it's in the neighborhood; thankfully this neighborhood has other amazing options. And it was our mistake: as soon as we entered & felt those negative vibes, we should have left. Lesson learned. All I can say is service at this bakery is amazing! They definitely deserve more exposure and clientele. It's my second time ordering a custom cake and the quality was phenomenal. I ordered my cakes about 4 days in advance and they accommodated every request I made. I had originally ordered my cake to be picked up at 2pm, but my family wanted to start the party earlier so I asked to come in at 12pm. The staff was very understanding and they had my cake ready for me. When I got there the owner Margarita welcomed me with a smile and showed me the final product. Excellent service today to buy 2 empanadas (beef and cheese) that both were $2 each and it was affordable for breakfast before going to work and to take a morning walk around the neighborhood while my mom has a doctor's appointment! Both of the beef and cheese empanadas tasted really good and it came with the green sauce! When I walked in, the lady greeted me in a friendly way and spoke a bit Spanish to me that I understood what she's saying tho that she was saying, "Hola amigo, ¿Cómo estás?" (Hello my friend, how are you doing?) and I spoke in English to take my order instead. I should've spoke Spanish to her while I take my order...Oh well and hopefully next time I'll try to speak some Spanish when I come back again or go to another Spanish bakery while taking my order(s) and to keep on practicing my Spanish! I'd just realized that Spanish is one of my favorite languages to take, speak and learn and hopefully I can speak well enough! The locale definitely molded to fit in with the new demographic of people present and the increasing gentrification of the area. Therefore, the food does not taste like authentic Colombian food; it's very bland and stale. I'm giving it 3 stars instead of a lower rating because the customer service was great. read more
