This place is a hidden gem! It is worth the drive to the south side of town for some excellent German food, superior service, really competitive pricing, and super friendly staff. On a whim, my office team went here for dinner to try it out and each one of us has added it to our short list of go-to places. I had the jagerschnitzel and potato salad and it was superb! Huge portions and packed with flavor. But what really made the place was Ashley, our server. She had a great and engaging sense of humor and mirth, was spot-on with her service, and made for a great evening. We will be back. This place has been in Augusta for a very long time. There is definitely a reason for that. It's a combination of German, Italian, and American dishes. I tried a bunch of different dishes when I stopped by and everything was fantastic. I will definitely be going back again and suggesting them to friends and family. It's a very intimate space, and has a great playlist in the speakers playing in the background. The staff is warm and inviting and you can tell they are very passionate about what they do. I came to Villa Europa as a part of a group to celebrate the birthday of one of my friends. She lived in Paris for a number of years and was really missing European food. During her search online she found this location and made a reservation. This restaurant is a little bit hidden if you don't already know that it is there, my car actually passed it twice and we were trying to follow the GPS closely. We were seated quickly and then, to the delight of our waitress (I hope), spent quite a bit of time pouring over the menu. We asked somewhere close to a million questions about each dish and about her suggestions and she took each of them in stride and was just great. I wish that I had gotten her name because if I go back I would want to be seated in her section again. We had escargot as our appetizer and it was the first time that I had ever had it, so like many others I didn't have anything to compare it to. I do think that it should be mentioned that it wasn't like anything that I was imagining. It was buttery and covered in garlic... and if my brain wasn't railing against the idea that it was a snail, I would dare to say it was delicious. I cannot remember how to spell what I ate, but it was good too. The sauce that went with the chicken and noodles was so good. We didn't get dessert there because we had made an ice cream cake at home but when one of the other wait staff brought by the tray of desserts I knew that I would have to go back. read more

I normally really like this place, so I have no idea what happened today. Our server was really upset with us from the start. We had an extra chair at our table and we told her we didn't need it. The response was, "Well we don't have anywhere to put it so it'll just stay there." Uhh.. okay.. We weren't planning on ordering our meals until after we ordered our appetizer. We ordered the appetizer and she stood there and asked what our meals would be. I guess our server was planning on putting both orders in the kitchen at the same time? We asked "Will the appetizer come at the same time as the meal if it's put in at the same time?" This REALLY offended her because she looked at us with disgust, scoffed, and said, "Oh come ON, that's a rookie question!" I have been coming her since I was a child. I moved away and was glad to see it was still here. Yes you have to slum it to the southside of town, in a less than perfect neighborhood, but let me assure you that it is worth it. This is probably the closest thing Augusta has to a great family run five star restuarant. the schnietzels are outstanding and the beer selection very good. This was my first time dining at Villa Europa in several years, and second overall. My wife and I went here on a Monday evening for my birthday dinner. Our server, Tony, provided incredible, attentive service the entire evening -- complete with a cowbell birthday serenade and hand sanitizer at the end. Cozy, but dated, interior. Atmosphere is very quiet/retro. The food was above average, for sure, but not your 5 star steak house quality, either. Overall a very enjoyable experience. We will be back. read more

Took the wife here to enjoy a good meal. Overall, we were satisfied. The only beer I really like to drink is a Hefe Weisse - and I like Franziskaner. They had the dark Franziskaner on draft - I would have liked the light one, so I was relegated to get Pauliner (which was OK). My wife ordered Rahmschnitzel, spaetzle and red cabbage, with the mixed German salad. The salad was good and she raved about the Rahmschnitzel. The Spaetzle was pretty ordinary and the red cabbage just wasn't to her liking. I asked if they could make me a Schnitzel Hawaii - which is a Schnitzel with cheese, pineapple slices and usually some cranberry sauce in the pineapple holes. They were able to come through with it (minus the cranberry). It was real good and I recommended that they add it to their menu. All in all, we were pleased. I liked that they made something off the menu for me. There is a German restaurant closer to our house which we will probably frequent more than Villa Europa, but I will definitely return. read more

After a last minute scramble to renew my car rental agreement at the airport before they tried to hunt me down like an animal, I conjured the Yelp! app from the depths of my smartphone's memory banks. Out of nowhere, I decided to go for something different. And, lo and behold, Villa Europa came up as a top choice for an affordable culinary detour. This turned out to be a very nice little find off the beaten path. After finding my table in a little nook off to the side, I was greeted by my waiter, Brian. He was an excellent host who was very helpful in providing recommendations for a nice appetizer, the Bavarian fritters. Paired with a brown ale on tap, these little fried balls contained a tart sauerkraut and spiced beef coated in a crisp batter. These were pretty good, but a bit different because they were somewhat lukewarm in the middle compared to their exterior. I wasn't sure if this was the traditional way these are supposed to be served, but I went along with it since it was my first time having them. Moving onto the weinerschnitzel and German potato salad as the main course, I have to say that I enjoyed this dish quite a bit. Crispy battered lamb served with a tart, complex potato salad was a solid dish. After this round, Brian tried very hard to convince me to try some dessert, but I was physically incapable of fitting any more food into my belly. My main quibbles were with the dining area. It resembled a darkly lit maze that is difficult to navigate if you happen to be directionally challenged. I'm more accustomed to the open layouts of modern restaurants. I felt cramped and claustrophobic while in my corner of a room within a room. Also, the decor looks like it hasn't been changed since the restaurant opened. The wicker chairs resemble items I might find at a yard sale or Goodwill. Same goes for the plastic menu sleeves and the drinks menu - they look like they haven't been updated in quite some time. Also, over time, the room seemed to get warmer due to poor air circulation. I would suggest coming here if you are game for a unique experience. The food was very good, but the venue subtracted from the experience. Knocking down some very unnecessary walls, leveling the floors, improving the air conditioning, brightening up the interior, getting some modern furniture and decor, and printing off some modern looking menus would bring Villa Europa up to its full potential. read more

The best German food you will ever have, the bavarian fritters are out of this world as an appetizer, the Saurbraten, Cordon Bleu, or the Rahmschnitzel for dinner are my favorites, plus the dumpings, german potato salad, and the German salad are great too. For dessert the Prince Regent Torte is to die for!! I would recommend this to anyone looking for Authentic German Food! We were passing through Augusta on our way from Atlanta to Charleston, SC, and were happy to discover that we could have German food in the South! Coming from New York and Indiana years ago, I guess we just took it for granted that German restaurants were all over the country. Not so in the rural area where we live. Hubby and I both had the specials that day. I had a delicious pork Goulash with Spaetzle, my husband had a curried pork Shashlik that was wonderful, and he loved their potato salad. My son had a pork schnitzel sandwich on rye. He said the taste was great, but the rye was a little on the dry side. We will definitely go back for more. The menu has a pageful of dishes we would like to try. Our waitress was friendly, and nice enough to repeat the specials for us again, as there were several that sounded good and we didn't want to miss any. read more

It was not busy so were seated right away, the dining rooms are separated and we were placed in a quiet spot. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. We were relative newbies to German cuisine so she made some great recommendations and reviewed the menu. Everything we had was great; herring and crackers for appetizer, beef rouladen, schnitzel, and desert were all good and healthy portions. The peach sangria was great. My family and I have been going to Villa Europa for 33 years. We are on our third generation enjoying the menu. We started way back when it was called Roman Villa and still go there when we feel home sick for German food. The salad dressings and bread are unbeatable, the schnitzel dishes are off the chain and the deserts are always fresh and of substantial size. Service is usually good and the food usually comes out in reasonable time considering it's not ready and sitting under a warmer, thank goodness. One of the most iconic restaurants in Augusta. The great food and service keeps me returning and eagerly awaiting my next visit. We ventured in on Master's Saturday for a delightful dinner. I always get the Antipasto salad for my side with my entree which tonight was the lasagna. Known for their German fare they excel at the Italian genre as well. The pasta was served piping hot with tasty garlic bread. Our server Kim was simply a joy and an exceptional server.
