A cute little winery set up on the hill off of 46, out of sight. I stumbled across Mitchella while doing a search on Yelp, and am quite pleased I chose this to be my one stop before moving on to the next city. The tasting at Mitchella Vineyard and Winery is $20 for 6 wines, with mindfully curated cheese pairings. (A fantastic deal considering the seemingly skyrocketing cost of everything.) The tasting fee is also waived with the purchase of 2 bottles, which is the route I opted for after completing my experience. Upon arrival I was instantly greeted by Lizzie, as she patiently and quietly waited for me to exit my car. She wiggled her butt toward the entrance, encouraging me to follow. Sweet little start to the day, I'd say! (The winery pup in case you haven't figured that out.) ;-) Rachel quickly greeted me and got me seated next to a heater in their enclosed patio, and the paired adventure began. The Viognier was paired with Kokos, a coconut Gouda cheese. Very surprising on the palate, and the wine definitely emphasized the coconut, while the cheese brought out the pineapple of the wine. The Chardonnay had a crisp mouth feel but still just the slightest hint of that butteriness I tend to love in my chardonnays. The subtle saltiness of the benning goat Gouda smoothed out the crispness of the wine. The Cheap B*st*rd (since I'm not sure what Yelp decides doesn't work for them), was quite enjoyable as a stand alone. For me it had the nose of what I would consider to be darker fruits and a generally more jammy wine, but it was smooth on the palate. The white Stilton with cranberry that it was paired out helped bring forward some of the fruit flavor, but the cheese itself wasn't my favorite (hence the stand alone aspect). The Tempranillo would be my grab a glass and a book and plop down by the fireplace (or on my balcony wrapped in blankets) type of wine. It didn't feel heavy and was just a nice sippable red. On the nose, for me, was a very dark red kookaburra licorice. It had a smooth, light finish and paired quite well with the mimolette (which I will forever know as the cannonball cheese thanks to Rachel!) Presumptuous, a zin, had what I consider to be a jammy mouthfeel (as I still can't figure out how exactly wine connoisseurs identify that!) It was paired with a Boschetto truffle cheese and I feel it brought out a very mushroom forward (favorable) taste when put together. For me, it isn't always about what can the food do for the wine... I love to experience what the find can do for the food! Give me a nice side dish of garlic sautéed mushrooms with a glass of this zin, and pretty sure I'm one happy girl. The only potential downside to me for this winery is that their restroom is a portable. While considerably clean, it's definitely a tight squeeze if you're a bigger girl like myself. Deal breaker? Not a chance. I look forward to a future stop when the vines are green and views expansive! read more

We have gone to many wineries and never tried a Rosé that blended a Zinfandel and Malbec. It was delightful! Absolutely loved my experience at Mitchella! The wine and cheese pairing was fantastic, so great in fact we asked if we could buy the cheese to go as well as the wine. The servers were knowledgeable and fun to talk with. The wines were fabulous, my favorites of the trip. It was unfortunate that this was our first stop, because if it had been later in the trip I definitely would've gotten more wine to go. The outdoor patio was shaded which is necessary on a hot Paso day. Not a great view of the vineyard from this spot, but just turn the corner and you can walk over to the views of the expansive vineyard. Wish I could commit to going down to Paso more often because I would've joined the wine club if I could. read more

We did the wine and cheese pairing for $15 per person and it was really fun! Our favorites were the white wines, especially the white blend. The cheese sampling had a wide breadth of types to try - our fav was the lemon and honey and Seascape. It had the texture of cheesecake almost. The server was the right pace for us, gave us an extra tasting of their new rosé, and was generally pretty friendly. I liked that the venue was lowkey and had a nice shaded indoor sunroom in addition to the outdoor patio. Fans for a nice breeze and blue skies. The owners live on the premises too. We bought 2 bottles of wine (white blend and rosé) which we didn't expect to! They're pretty inexpensive compared to other places too. read more

Family owned. It was started by owners that enjoyed wine themselves (and Angela, the wife, was the best hostess). The member pick up parties initially were prepared by the family and the food was exceptional. As the number of members grew, the activities and parties were divided in two days to maintain quality. I started dating years ago with bottles of their wines and cheeses, sitting on their back yard! Yes, their winery is off their house and it still to this day is like a visit to a family member that knows how to make and serve good wine. They have assistants serving the wine now but the quality is the same. Sign up quickly for their dinners! Now I see a lot of "sold out" signs. I recommend this winery, for the quality of wines, for the quality of food, for the quality of the people and environment. read more

Rachel provided a great experience and as very friendly and personable! We aren't super into wine, so it was an approachable/low pressure experience for us to taste on our own. Small winery but it was really great! Apparently the owners live on the property, so it's really nice. Pours were nice and they were all paired with a recommended cheese. This was the first time we had done a specific cheese/wine pairing at a winery, so it was kinda cool to see the relationship between the cheese and the wine. This is a cute little down home spot. Had the option to sit in a covered patio or outdoors- opted for outdoors since it was a nice day. Seriously felt like you were sitting in someone's backyard. The views are pretty and the service was good. It was nice and small. A few other tables were occupied - and we were chit chatting back and forth which was awesome. My favorite wine to try of course was the dessert wine .... liked it so much even bought a bottle. The cheese pairing that came with the tasting was awesome too! Love a good cheese pairing! They have a lovely outdoor patio. Usually one dog allowed per group but they allowed our two small dogs because it wasn't very busy on a Thursday. Reservations were easy to make my phone. Cute little swing area, and nice view of Paso. The wines were all great. Unsure with how regional stay at home orders would affect a birthday winery trip for my S.O., I'm glad that we were able to make the last day before shutdown to Mitchella Winery. I had made a reservation for two, as Mitchella caught my eye due to the proximity to some other wineries, a cheese pairing option, and high Yelp ratings - they did not let me down! The tasting area itself is quite cute - almost like somebody's home, and it adds to a nice family-like vibe. Although we arrived well before our reservation, we were seated promptly - there is an outdoor patio, and a covered area patio. Mitchella served SEVEN wines (two white, five red) and pairs them with different cheeses, and it is a fantastic experience. The wines are good on their own, but their flavor changes and gets even better with the cheese. Tastings with cheese pairings were $15/person or waived with a two bottle/person purchase. We ended up getting a couple blends (called "Cheap Bastard" & "Shameless"), and we liked the cheese so much, we got some to go as well. One of the most beautiful, friendly, and well-developed wineries we have ever visited. It is a bit hidden behind another winery. We needed to take a route through the parking lot of the other winery to arrive at Mitchella's. Excellent setting and view. Rachel, the tasting room associate knew her wines, and the pairing with cheeses one one of the best ways to develop an affinity for wines you have never tasted. When we visited other tasting rooms, we often found that at the most 3 out of the 5 offered wines were worth the sip. However, at Michella's, every wine is superb and worth the purchase. It is a gem of a boutique winery that should be discovered and savored. read more

Loved visiting Mitchella! They were very accommodating and friendly, and the view was beautiful and relaxing! We tasted 6 wines with cheese pairings and ended up buying a number of bottles, so our tasting fees were waived. Visited on Sunday, 10/18/20. Very laid back vibe. Great wine and wonderful service. We enjoyed a cheese pairing with the wine outside on the patio. Covid precautions were in full effect. The only downside would be that the restroom is an outhouse - but it is a VIP outhouse with running water and very clean. During Covid, a lot of places were all booked up. Jesus recommended trying Cass winery for walk-in availability. A great recommendation. We are looking forward to coming back! read more

Their standard wine tasting is $15 and you can pay $20 for a shared wine tasting for two people with a cheese pairing. We did the $20 shared wine tasting and it was worth the money. First time at this winery when visiting paso robles and it was ok. It was really nice that they pair each wine with a cheese. They really did complement each other but the wine was just ok in my opinion. The price was reasonable for the wine and cheese that you get. The winery is beautiful inside and out. We went on a binge. One winery after another, for two days straight. Denny B, you may have a crazy agenda... but you sure do know your wines, and you certainly know how to make the best out of a wine tour. Thank you Denny for a thrilling time. Even I, wine novice, found myself moving on to bigger wines than I ever imagined. This time, Denny introduced us to places he himself had not yet experienced. And that is how we came to Mitchella. And while I did not take much in the way of pictures, we came away with some real treasures. First, the gift shop stuff. There are a small collection of gift items, but the one I fell in love with was the jam. Actually two. They offer tastings, and wisely provided crackers and cream cheese for the tasting. Why, you say? Because one was a Jalapeno jam, the other a Scotch Bonnet. This "wuss" lady not only enjoyed them but came away with a jar of each. They are not that spicy, just flavorful and delicious. A pint runs about $9. Thumbs up for the cream cheese accompaniment, btw. Now, before you judge me for what I have to say, I fully confess. I am a rosé wine drinker of the pathetic kind. Right...nobody drinks rosé. Just wine wimps. Or do they? Mitchella offers a 2014 Reluctant that even Denny had to admit was lovely. And he won't tell you this, but I think he bought some, just like we did. I went to their website, and I can't find it there. So you will have to jump in your car and taste it before you think Denny and wife, Mr. B, and I have lost our minds. Had a great visit, the pourers were delightful. And our experience was a keeper. This is only a review of their to-go tasting box that I received as a gift this week. The cute box has 6 tastings for $20 (non-members). It's makes such a wonderful gift! All the wines were pretty good, but the 2016 Presumptuous was my favorite. The first runner up for me was the 2018 Cheap Bastard, and the second runner up was the 2016 Cabernet Franc. I would like to try their cheese pairings. I'll put this winery on my list when I visit Paso Robles. Note, you must enjoy the tasting box within 72 hours. read more

We were looking for a small Boutique wine tasting with a view. Perfect! And then we tasted the wine. Their Cab was the best but I loved everything on the wine list. Chardonnay is a great alternative to the Napa buttery blend. And the Malbec is a for sure take home for a bbq. We went home with a great selection and very reasonable. Came for our socially distanced wine weekend in early July. The ladies, I think Natalie and I can't remember the other lovely staff member, were so kind and knowledgeable about the pours. We did the cheese pairing and the blueberry stilton was out of this world. Also loved the wine of the month deal. The tables were spread apart, the staff all wore masks, and they had the cleanest port-o-potty with running water that I have ever been in. The fountain and the swings were a nice touch as well. The wine was pretty good and not to mention affordable. It still may not have been our favorite wine of the day but the staff was definitely the best we came across of the four spots we had hit and they also gave us great dinner recs for that evening. I highly recommend this place for wine tasting. It's $15 per person. But you will end up tasting more than 5 wines and you will also have a cheese pairing with it. 1 tasting fee will be waived if you purchased 2 bottles of wine. We purchased 4 bottles so our tastings ended up being free. I made a reservation online but came 1 hour early since my husband and i were done early from the other 2 wineries before this. They also have a lovely "indoor" patio with ac and fan on for hot days, and outside tables with umbrellas. Our experience here was very pleasant. Out host was very friendly and nice. Wine prices were reasonable. Overall will come back and will recommend to friends and family. read more

Definitely my favorite spot in Paso. We stopped by during our friend's bachelorette adventure back in April. Weather was beautiful and we felt right at home. Small tasting room which I like, friendly staff, beautiful backyard and adorable lab named Bob walking around :) Wine tasting came with cheese pairings which we got to enjoy while sitting back and relaxing in the backyard (they came out to pour for us). They have tables and chairs, games (Jenga, bean bag toss, ball), swing set and a beautiful view of the vineyard. There is a lot of nice green grass where you can walk around. You can also take the stairs up to the 2nd floor/patio area for even a nicer view. We also tried some jelly they made with cream cheese and crackers. Loved the habanero jelly! Although I can't handle spicy too much, but this along with cream cheese and crackers was delicious and too good to pass up! So I bought a jar ($8.95) to take back home and my husband loved it. You can also purchase over the phone. Highly recommended. Would love to come back whenever we are in town again :) read more
