Apple tart w/ custard & moschino
    Emily J.

Been here since I was a kid and haven't been back in decades. Went a couple of months ago and the pastries are still excellent. I'm sure the ownership is different now but the quality is still good. We were greeted with smiles and the cafe is cozy. Most people come here to reminisce on pastries they bought with their friends back in grade school. We use to get the swan custard puffs which they still have but sell out quick before noon! There seems to always be 1-2 left but I'm sure if you call ahead they can make a bunch for you! One of my favorites is the apple tart filled w/ custard w/ a cherry on top. (A+) Just the right amount of sweetness and the crust tastes like a soft cookie. I'm not usually a crust eater but I'll eat the crust on this! Excellent paired with tea! There is parking to the left of the building or on the street.

    Moldy Cheesecake

I'm really disappointed with my experience here. I purchased a couple slices of cheesecake and before even taking a bite, I noticed visible mold inside the slice. There were clearly discolored gray/white spots baked into the cheesecake -- obvious enough that I didn't even feel safe tasting it. This is a serious food safety concern. Cheesecake is dairy-based and should never be sold past freshness, especially with visible mold. I had to throw everything away. For a bakery with their prices and reputation, this level of quality control is unacceptable. Please check your product rotation and storage more carefully. I won't be coming back.

    Gluten Free Tiramisu Cake

The Chef at Village French Bakery made an incredible gluten free tiramisu cake for my daughter's birthday. It was so delicious and everyone raved about it! The Chef was so helpful with my order. I highly recommend this bakery.

Stopped in for a little something sweet after brunch. It's a quaint coffee shop/bakery that offered a very big selections of pastries. The selection they offered were all appetizing as each was calling my name. Ended up picking up a slice of a chocolate cake, and chocolate double cream puff, cream puff, ham and cheese croissant as well as a tart.

In search of a good assortment of croissants? In Los Angeles? Not the hinterlands? That includes savory as well as sweet choices? And flaky, properly created authentic to the original French (not Tasmanian, for example) icon? At hours that normal folks can visit? Below the price of $10 a piece? In a clean and friendly environment? Where you can buy, let's say, two dozen pieces on the spot, to take to an upscale event? Good luck! They are scarcer than crow's teeth here. With a full week of scrolling and swiping I have finally found a couple that satisfy most of these criteria, i.e., clean, friendly, good schedule, good variety, well priced, high quality and authentic, and in a lovely reachable neighborhood too. On a dismal gray February day, leaping between downpours, we made our way to Village French Bakery and feel our selecting this pastry emporium amid the hundreds of others that failed our checklist was truly justified. I want to take a couple of dozen of the best French-style pastries to a morning event taking place soon, and I don't want all of them to be sweet, as this is a breakfast gig and a lot of people no longer want a sugar high first thing in the morning. (It is such an American thing to throw sugar --- or worse, high fructose corn syrup [yech] into every meal element. Do people now sprinkle their over-easies with granules too? Just saying ...) There is only one tiny thing that bothers me here and everywhere else: there is very little in-store stock of croissants (not cakes and other delicious dessert items like cake-- see my pictures) at almost any time of day past 7 am. Bummer. At least one can get to Village French easily (right off the 5 freeway) and we can order by phone a few days in advance for pickup. I am not sure why this is, other than, pastries don't hold up well sitting for days on a shelf and bakeries, as elegant and exquisite as they can be, like this one, have small profit margins. OR, their croissants are so amazingly good that they sell out immediately, every single day. In any case, they are doing us a service and since I am grateful this bakery exists at all, I will not complain. I feel lucky to have found it.

Ask the Community - Village French Bakery

Do I have to order to get, let's say, a dozen croissants? Or do they have enough in the store on weekends, to walk in and purchase them?

Does anyone know if they are doing pumpkin tarts this year for thanksgiving?

Thank you for your response. I appreciate that you took the time to reply, but I believe your…read moreresponse misses the main issue. Good business etiquette is simple: when a business makes a mistake, it should acknowledge it, correct it immediately, sincerely apologize to the customer, and ensure the customer leaves satisfied. That builds trust and demonstrates accountability. Instead, much of your response focuses on explaining that the price tag may have been moved accidentally by staff or customers. Those are explanations, not accountability. This was one of the last two pieces left in the display, and the incorrect price tag should have been noticed well before my purchase. As I also stated in my response to the Agricultural Commissioner of Weights & Measures Inspector, I am almost certain that after I shared my experience and reviews on social media, the pricing discrepancies would have been already corrected. If that is the case, I genuinely hope those changes help make sure future customers are charged accurately and fairly. Regarding the Kyiv cake, my concern is relatively minimal compared to the pricing issue. It simply did not taste as good as it used to. It lacked the freshness and flavor we had previously enjoyed, and it tasted somewhat stale. This is the least of my concern. What concerns me most is the lack of accountability. Businesses earn customer loyalty by owning their mistakes, not by offering explanations for why they may have happened. A sincere apology, immediate correction and a commitment to making things right would have been a much more appropriate response.

Stopped by because I've been on an Armenian pastry trend at this time. I ended up grabbing some nazook, medium lahmajun, and also decided to give the beef khachapuri kabob a try as I haven't seen that offered at other spots I've tried. Service was quick and on point and the lahmajun did take about 10-15 minutes as they make them fresh. They have a pretty expansive patio where you can enjoy your goodies and hang out. Parking can be a bit of a challenge as it is mostly street parking, but I managed to snag a spot a few blocks away. As for the food, the nazook is amazing and better than a few other bakeries I've tried in Glendale. The lahmajun was also amazing and very flavorful with a good amount of meat. And lastly, the beef khachapuri kabob was amazing! It had that nice smoky charcoal flavor in the meat and worked well with the surrounding pastry. Definitely will be back again and bringing friends to this Glendale gem!

Well, I needed to meet up with a friend who recently moved into the area and he suggested this place because it was a new spot he and his lady started frequenting. So, when I got there I realized this place is the ENTIRE BLOCK!! It's MASSIVE!! (I apologize about no pics this time - but, I'm pretty sure this will be a regular spot for me!) When you walk in the place almost takes your breath away. WOW! The cases are clear and amazingly stocked. It's beautiful. Check out the menu for items but, I had four different things - 2 savory and two sweet - and I was super excited. The service was also super attentive. Very helpful. Parking is plentiful. The place is clean. Indoor outdoor seating. Dog-friendly. This is a place to frequent and support.

Always a pleasant experience at these bakeries. This Glendale bakery café was clean, bright, and beautifully organized with a large variety of pastries, cakes, and drinks on display. I tried the Strawberry Soft Cream Cake, Berries cake, Curry Croquette, and their signature iced Korean lattes. The pastries were soft and flavorful without being overly sweet, and the cakes looked just as good as they tasted. The curry croquette wasn't a favorite of mine. It was my first time trying and the spices didn't amaze my palette. I will have to try their garlic bread next time if I feel like getting something savory. Their sweets are always a hit for me! Overall, the staff was friendly and greeted customers warmly as they come in. Small parking lot at this location but still worth the wait. Good visit!

I returned to the store to request an exchange, but I was told that it is the customer's responsibility to check the expiration date. The staff pointed to a "Beyond Use Date" on the bottom of the packaging labeled July 20th. It is also the store's responsibility to not sell expired item. I went through the bread that were on the shelf with the worker and most of them had expiration date for the same day. If the bread is freshly baked each morning as they claim, it is unclear how it could expire on the same day it was made. I bought bread from Paris Baguette for many years, I have never experienced bread molding within one to two days. While the issue with the product itself is frustrating, I am most disappointed by how the situation was handled by the team. Also, I suggest putting the expiration date where it's visible so that customers can responsibly purchase bread.
