    BBQ Pork Benedict
    Shawn E.

Really love this place. A classy dining gem that I think gets lost a bit due to the location. Early century (20th) charm with antique furnishings throughout the older building. Mostly tables but a few booths. Warm and friendly atmosphere with excellent service. High standard of utensils and dinner-ware. Ever-changing menu. Now about the food. Our stops are typically Sunday breakfast. The menu is small but you will still find it difficult to decide. Every item is unique (in at least some way) to the Village Hearthstone and prepared from scratch by a real chef. My meal was the BBQ Pork Benedict. Think of Eggs Benedict but BBQ pulled pork instead of ham and cornbread instead of english muffin. It was topped with a few strips of onion strings for crunch. The flavors blended so well. It was served with some of the best breakfast potatoes I've had; they must be flash fried as they are crispy on the outside and so tasty. Portion size is average to slightly generous, the prices are reasonable and actually inexpensive considering the quality of food and service. Again, this has been our experience for Sunday brunch only but not a single thing I can point out as a negative. Great food, atmosphere, and service.

Another visit and we were not disappointed. The soup and pizza were superb. My bologna pasta was also excellent. My wife's perch were the largest fillets we have seen in a long time but we suspect that they were white lake perch and not the sweeter yellow lake perch. We look forward to returning.

Great food and ambiance. It sucks that the location is hidden away that they don't have more business, but it also makes it great for me and my out-of-town friends who want to drop in and try their food. I would suggest trying the craft drinks and woodfire pizza. We enjoyed the Mac and cheese pizza and the proscuitto pizza. Both were perfect. Not burned, not too thin crust with a good mix of ingredients in good portion. My friends thought they could have toned down the dressing on the proscuitto pizza but I thought it was fine. They split our check for us and made us very full!

Village Hearthstone is a surprisingly good restaurant considering the location. They serve up some unique and fancy menu items; the quality and variety makes me want to come back and try a few more dishes. The atmosphere is old school classy with beautiful wood grains, a quaint bar and visible wood fire oven. Minus a star for poor service. There were only a few tables in use when we came in, and it took more than 10 minutes for someone to come out with a glass of water; another five or ten to get service. We were starving by the time we finally saw food. Maybe a one-off experience, I am willing to give them another try. Closest comparison for me is Wilder's Bistro in Appleton.

This was our first visit to the Village Hearthstone. It was great to have reservations and we were seated right away! They have an excellent selection of craft cocktails, beer and wine. The old fashioned is not to be missed! The Moscow Mule is fantastic, too! For appetizers, we enjoyed arancini balls and meatballs, both were delicious and I recommend both of them! For our main course, we sampled the margherita pizza, beer battered haddock and the smoked brisket. The portions were perfect, leaving room for dessert! For dessert, we had the blueberry Craig, served in a cast iron skillet with a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream on top and a chocolate cream with raspberries! Mmmm! We had a fabulous server, Heather, who made our visit even more enjoyable.

This place rocks. Always good food and drinks. Pizza from the wood fired oven is great. Worth the ride to Hilbert.

We sent our significant others ahead to secure a table. When we arrived they had drinks and tortilla chips with queso. Chips were a good salty and the queso dip was tasty. Our waitress was top notch. From her pleasant demeanor to her attentiveness to our drinks and food orders we could not have been happier. Two of our party ordered ribs and brisket. The brisket was well seasoned and tasted great. The ribs had a similar seasoning and were a solid offering. While neither required barbecue sauce, I did try it. I wasn't super impressed and would have liked more than one option for sauce. The beans were fantastic and the mac and cheese was good. One of our party ordered chicken tacos (2) and said they were delicious. Overall, no major issues with the food. Drinks were reasonably priced. Old fashioned were muddled and tasted very good. In addition to the full bar, there were many beers and other canned drinks available. I have to say our first trip didn't disappoint. It is a little loud, as it is one large room. However, we also noticed fire pits and outdoor seating. Seems like a good place to revisit when summer rolls around.

Did find it weird that (at…read moreleast today, a weekday) you had to order in the bar/restaurant and carry your drinks or food out to tables, which was a bit of a walk. Maybe staffing? Our waitress was super friendly and very attentive. My wife had the sliders which were decent, but I had the brisket cheesesteak sandwich which I was not impressed with. It was very dry and did not have much flavor. I even tried some mayo on it, but all I could taste was bread. And there was a lot of bread! Might have been a one off, because my son has eaten here a couple of times and loved the cheesesteak. So, I'm willing to give it another try.

The restaurant is a bit off the beaten path. That works if you are looking for good food; which the restaurant offers. We had a party of six of our table. Everyone agreed the food was very good. I had the Mile High Meatloaf. It was a great portion and was cooked perfectly. I added the salad bar for a minimal charge. It was well stocked with all the standard items and many tasty pasta salads. Several people I was dining with had the Cajun style walleye. They also received hearty portions and said it was really good. I have to tie our bar choices to our experience with our waitress. She was a young girl. She was very nice. Whoever trained her (or didn't train her) is responsible for her shortcomings. The poor girl had no idea about anything served at the bar. People at my table had to go up to the bar to look at the beers offered and to look at which liquors were available. First, the young lady should have been instructed to say, "Let me check on that". Secondly, someone could have helped her with a cheat sheet. It was an awkward 5 minutes of drink orders. Again, not her fault but failure by whoever "trained" her. Overall, the drinks were good. Another "training" failure was our waitress not returning to see if anyone needed anything or to see if another round of drinks was needed. No one to blame but management for not giving our young waitress the chance to provide exceptional service. Would I return? Indeed. The food was tasty and reasonably priced. If the manager did right by their employees, it would have been a truly great experience.

They also have a connected hall that could host a small wedding or meeting. I was very impressed with the building but unfortunately I was underwhelmed with a few things. Primarily the drinks. Sadly in this area, especially on a Friday night, the night club experience includes a good drink, usually an Old Fashioned. The drinks we had were so lacking in booze and old fashioned mix, that it was like drinking soda. Watching the pours, the bottles had automatic pours on them, that I'm sure were set to less than an ounce. The prices were average, but the drinks were terrible. I would much rather pay more and get a good drink! Most of my group had the Friday Perch Fry. Like the drinks, I thought the pricing was on par with the other fish fries. The size (amount) of the plate was great. Some people in our group liked the unique panko breading on the fish, others did not like it at all. I thought it was different, but good. What I couldn't understand was that when we got there, we were the only ones in the bar and 3 tables of people were eating on a Friday Night during Lent in Catholic heavy Eastern Wisconsin. This is a bad sign. A good Fish Fry restaurant usually clean ups at this time of the year! I would maybe go back to eat, but not when I'm with a group that would like a drink or too before our meal. This is crazy for a fish fry
