Our family had celebrated several Birthdays and Anniversaries at The Village Grille over the past few years, but this year we used their EVENTS location on Bellevue. We had the entire place and staff to ourselves, bar and bartender, waitstaff and cook, and dance floor after eating the wonderfully cooked meals. Attendees had their choice of prime Rib, Tenderloin, BBQ Ribs, Salmon, or Chicken Cordon Blu. We brought in a sheet cake, but they had an unbelievably tasty Cheesecake that everyone raved about. I received many comments about how well the meals were prepared and served, it truly made the evening extra special. The staff were super attentive and performed like professionals meeting all of our needs and requests without hesitation. We brought in a DJ, and had a great time after dinner. Waited forever, like 30 mins for someone to come to our table and order drinks, then food came 30 minutes later and was awful. Pizza was a "Chef boy ardee" type pizza, simply awful. Also had a mushroom and Swiss burger that was dried out and no flavor. We had to go up to counter for ketchup and ranch dressing,because we asked for it and it was never received, took even longer for the bill to come, had to go up to the desk and ask for that! My first visit to Village Grille was during midafternoon, as the friends I was meeting wanted a late lunch. A lunch so late, it could practically be called dinner, I guess! But we were still early enough to make the 2:00 cutoff for breakfast dishes. The place is impressive. It has high ceilings and plenty of booths, as well as a large bar, numerous tables and a couple of banquet rooms. The booths are apparently fashioned from salvaged material from an older place in Green Bay. My friends, who are local, mentioned the name, but I forgot it immediately. Kaaps, maybe? I will say the booth seats had very straight backs and hard flat seating surfaces. Historic or not, you might want to bring a stadium-type seat cushion. My booth was near the front, and I watched the cars going by on Hoffman Road. They were not too busy this late in the afternoon, just a couple of other tables, although there was some type of shower going on in one of the banquet rooms. Perhaps a baby shower, because I saw women (only women) carrying large, be-ribboned packages in pinks and blues. Now I suppose you could carry such garish packages to a wedding shower, but I'm going to go with my gut instinct and say it was a baby shower. This was my first time eating at the Village Grille, as it didn't exist when I briefly lived in Wisconsin in the mid 1990's. Of course, I lived in Neenah, but I would come to Green Bay to visit my family frequently. I also attended church in Green Bay for some time. Anyway, I arrived early so I studied the manageable menu offering appetizers, soups and salads, grilled sandwiches, pizzas and main dishes, including chicken, beef and seafood. The fried cheese curds in the appetizer section caught my eye, as I haven't had fried cheese curds since I went to the Buffalo Wild Wings in Times Square. That's in New York City. I ordered a club soda and continued to wait for my friends. When they arrived, they placed their drink orders and asked if the breakfast menu was still available. I felt like a fool sitting there with the lunch and dinner menu, but I tried to make light of it. Eschewing traditional breakfast items, I ordered the fried cheese curds to start. Although I didn't realize it, the curds came with French fries! My one friend went with the Village Skillet, which was a large plate teeming with eggs, bacon, ham, hash browns served with marble rye. I've included a picture along with my review, if you'd like to get an idea of the portion size. It was very generous! My other friend ordered the triple decker club sandwich. It was also a generous portion. You are able to choose from among many potatoes as sides, including mashed, French fries, sweet potato fries, and grille fries. Prior to ordering, I asked what the grille fries were. The waitress, who was excellent,by the way, described them as small red potatoes, roasted in herbs. They sounded very good but in reality, were just okay. My Philly Cheese steak was served on a long buttered roll and included liberal portions of onions, green peppers and mushrooms, along with the steak and cheese. One or two of the additional vegetables would have been enough, but all three was truly an embarrassment of riches! Since I'd had some fries with the cheese curds, I ordered the aforementioned grille fries. As noted earlier, the Village Grille has an attractive bar area to the left of the entryway. Although I didn't drink anything other than the club soda (for which they charged me the same full price as a Sierra Mist, by the way) it appears that the restaurant has a full liquor license based on the bottles on display behind the bar. The young lady who served us was polite and professional. She kept water glasses full and my one friend who had coffee received multiple warm ups. My friends had both been before and indicated to me that the service was much more attentive on this visit. I offer that only as unsubstantiated commentary since I had not previously dined at Village Grille, but my friends are trustworthy in general so I wouldn't think their statements were inaccurate. I will just state that at my visit, the service couldn't have been more prompt or gracious. All in all, this is apparently the newest hot spot in the greater Green Bay area, although I supposed it's actually in Allouez. Not that it matters, really. One of the reviews I read on Yelp was from a young lady from Chicago, so it appears that it attracts visitors from out of town as well as people who live here. Was out looking for some comfort food. What better than food from a Grille. On the menu, the Grilled Cheese says your choice of bread and cheese. Many options, which makes it harder to choose. But the sandwich plus sweet potato fries were delicious. Also, despite being like 5 degrees outside, had a strawberry shake. Yum. The staff was very nice. Warm decor. Even saw a couple come in with a scrabble game to play while they ate. Will need to try a Sunday brunch soon. They even have a small bar for a cocktail. My family recently went to dinner at the Village Grille as it was highly recommended by numerous friends and family members. My experience and that of my family's here was absolutely perfect. The food was great, the place was clean and the atmosphere comfortable, but most of all our server, Erin, was the most extraordinary server I have EVER had at ANY establishment. She went above and beyond for our group and made my parents feel so special. I know this dinner will be one they remember. Our drinks stayed full, the food was brought out hot and she was just absolutely wonderful! I recently stopped in on a Sunday for their breakfast buffet. It is advertised as ending at 1:00pm, which the staff confirmed. It was 12:30 when I arrived. Almost every single chafing dish was empty. No bacon, no hash browns, no waffles, everything had been picked clean. The fruit bowl was also empty. The only thing left were 2 egg dishes. The restaurant was still very busy when I arrived. It was obvious that the dishes had been empty for some time. I understand that you don't want to replenish everything right before closing, and waste the remaining food.....but I feel that 30 minutes before closing is still a reasonable time to expect a well-stocked buffet. I do not believe this place even earns 1 star. Out of the 4 diners in our party, 2 of the meals were inedible. A grilled cheese that arrived with the kraft cheese slices perfectly intact! No melted cheese? Really! Mozzarella sticks with marinara. Hmm, still frozen and the marinara was ice cold. Steak sandwich was ok, not even butter on the bun. Very dry and bland. Grilled chicken sandwich was passable as well. Of course we complained and nothing was done. We showed the waiter the meals and his response was zip! After living near The Village Grille for 3 years, I visited the restaurant for the first time, for breakfast. Unfortunately, I won't return. The restaurant seemed clean, and the toast and coffee were decent. That's where my positive feedback ends. I had a Philly Cheesesteak Scrambled-Egg Skillet. The steak was very dry, and the eggs were very rubbery and overcooked. All of the vegetables in the dish looked like they were chopped by a child, with non-uniform pieces, so some was raw and crispy, and some was mush. The hashbrowns were undercooked and slimy with not a hint of crispiness. More disturbing was the fact that nothing was seasoned at all. I don't think any of my food was touched with so much as a grain of salt. As a result, it was completely flavorless. The Village Grille serves lunch and dinner, as well, but I don't see myself returning. This was the most depressing meal I've had in a while. read more

We had a group brunch get together here. I have to say, if it wasn't for our phenomenal waitress I would give this place one star. First off, the food was gross. It just was. The roasted chicken was way overcooked, the bones broke apart into small pieces after barely handling it. You'd take a bite and there would be bones everywhere. The mashed potatoes were clearly made from powder, the gravy was obnoxiously salty, the corn was overcooked and drowning in butter, the slaw had so much sauce it ruined the taste, and the rolls were like the ones you get from Costco -hard and tasteless. The actual restaurant space is pretty great, it's large and well decorated. We really enjoyed the small party room that we rented. Also, my cranberry orange mimosa was pretty delicious. It doesn't make up for the food, though. That aside, service was great, our waitress was wonderful, kind, and very attentive. That boosted it up to 2/5 for me. Overall, it's pretty cheap, but I can't stand the thought of going back there for the food. I most likely will not be back. read more

Some people might mistakenly believe that The Village Grille only serves barbecue because the word Grille is in the title, which evokes images of ribs, steak, and burgers. However, the menu provides a breathtaking variety of spectacular dishes that will leave you screaming inside to go back to the restaurant to order more. Although we have never tried recreational drugs or illegal substances, we are pretty certain that the properties of the ingredients used at The Village Grille have similar addictive properties. The Old Fashions are excellent here, you can't go wrong with any appetizer, and all of the menu items we have tried thus far (sandwiches, wraps, fish, etc) have been good all the way down to the last morsel (we even try to discreetly lick the plates when no one is looking). read more

We come here once every few months, out of a desperation of not wanting to drive too far and not wanting to make anything for dinner. The food isn't bad, but it isn't anything to write about. Plain, stuff you could make at home (maybe better at home). But the place is clean. If you like a piece of fried fish and french fries, it's fine. Only bottled beer, which is a big disappointment. They could be more of a stand-out neighborhood spot if they got a keg or two. I've had the taco salad, the chicken parm, the burger, the melt, chicken fingers, pizza, fish fry and breakfast buffet. Yeah, sometimes the proprietress is a little owly but there's no complaining about any of the food, or drink either. She went to the table directly next to us at least 3 times (that we noticed) during that time, including once after they had already left, just to grab the money. We had a 90th birthday party celebration for 80 plus people here on Saturday night. Everything was great, from the fact that we did not have to guarantee the number of folks attending to the easy way the folks got to pick their menu items at the door (instead of in advance) to the delicious food and the unbelievable cost (less than $40 per person) for appetizers, drinks, entrees and dessert.
