I've lived half a mile from this place for the last 3 years and finally decided it was time to check it out. Glad I did this was a great little diner that serves great food. They had a special that was peach French toast and it was amazing, I normally don't eat French toast but all these restaurants have been making amazing combos it has now become my go to. Service was excellent, always had full glasses and really friendly, prices are not to bad also. I wish they were open later its so hard to get in here during the week with work, but well worth it to check out. read more

The food here was good! After we ordered I then noticed a white board saying "local favorites" which was never pointed out us!! I probably would've tried the hash! Nor did our sever tell us her name. However our food arrived promptly and our coffee wasn't allowed to get cold!! Our food was good - it must've been cooked in real butter! Delicious I'm sure for the rest of the world but not for me as it began my day of many trips the bathroom! The bathroom was weird as the ladies outer door was propped out with a garbage can and the hallway swing door were propped with a cleaning bucket so only the stall door was your privacy to the main dining area!! read more

They don't skimp on fresh ingredients and the staff (Janice) is the friendliest and most accommodating waitress we have ever had. Townie breakfast spot doesn't get any better... I've been going to Village Kitchen for about 6 years now, and it's still my favorite place to go catch breakfast. The menu is reliable, tasty comfort food, which always plays well after a night out. The staff is friendly, fast and will remember your name if you come in regularly. I think they're physically incapable of allowing your coffee cup to goto half-empty. They also have a couple of murals in there of the ann arbor area, which turns into a "where's waldo" when you realize that the owner is painted into the thing... funny. All in all, a tasty, reliable, friendly place to grab breakfast or lunch. What's not to like? read more

My fiance and I tried this place out for the first time today. The girl who sat us was incredibly rude, but whatever, we only had to deal with her for 30 seconds. I got the breakfast wrap and subbed out the onions for tomatoes and it was delicious! They had FOUR varieties of hot sauce on the table which was awesome :D I love me some hot sauce, I tried them all. When we got the bill, I noticed that they had charged me $1.09 to get tomatoes instead of onions. It's nothing to freak out about, but it is unnecessary. Last I checked, onions weren't too much cheaper than tomatoes, right? Our server said that the owner requires them to charge the fee or she makes them pay for it out of pocket. It's just bad business and gave me a bad vibe. The food was good, but I refuse to give my business to places that don't appreciate it and that treat their employees unfairly. I waffle back and forth (punintentional) between Holiday's and VK. The people here are just a different crowd. Now that the Jackson Rd construction is complete, I headed over there for lunch. Apple. Cheddar. Pancakes. That's all you need to know. Every time I'm in here I'm amazed at the huge selection of inventive food and the 1# carrot cake sitting in the fridge. I wait to see who orders it so I can ogle at their ability to consume all that sugar in one sitting, and I'm never disappointed. Today it was a tiny little elderly lady. All of my lunch companions were thrilled with their meals, ranging from Strawberry Banana pancakes to grilled cheese and a caesar pita of some sort. Everyone made fun of my odd choice for apple cheddar, so I purposely made noises somewhere between Bob in What About Bob? and Sally in When Harry Met Sally. I've been eating breakfast at VK since I was about 8 years old, and I still like to pop in and get silver-dollar pancakes or a short-stack of blueberry cakes ever-so-often. I love that VK's omelets taste buttery and fresh, and that the egg isn't rubbery (like so many diners these days) and the fillings are good-quality. This is also a nice place for a grilled cheese, ruben, or bowl of soup. Just an all-around homey place for a simple meal - I also really appreciate the HUGE booths that can sit 6, in fact, most of their seating is booths (a rarity these days) and far more comfortable than chair/table sets. read more

The server was hostile to my husband and I from the moment we walked in. It was incredibly strange, and at first we joked to each other about it... but then it became unbearably awkward. Luckily, after she dropped off our food (and bill... at the same time), we never saw her again. My husband ordered chicken fingers and fries. For $8 he received three fresh from the freezer store brand fried chicken chunks and about five fries served in a coffee filter (not a joke... actually served in a coffee filter). For the same price, I had a pretty good, though small, Greek salad. The dressing, however, was terrible. It was like a blend of horseradish, mayonnaise, and pepper. I could have dealt with crappy overpriced food had it not been for the inattentive (and hostile) service. read more

This is like having breakfast in your grandmas kitchen. This is straight country breakfast. We stopped in first thing on Saturday morning as we were looking to set a base before heading to beerfest. The VK seemed built for such an endeavor. I really only have two issues with my experience. The first is that they have home fries and not hash browns. They were tasty home fries to be sure, but for a complete breakfast I need hash browns. The second is that despite the place being surrounded by windows, they had all the blinds pulled. Open the place up people. I had standard eggs, toast, bacon, OJ, and home fries. It was exactly what I was looking for. Friendly service, not expensive. I can think of better breakfasts in A2, but this was wholly appropriate for fueling up. Every once in a while, that's exactly what you need. read more

After a recent debate at work of what the best breakfast spot in the Ann Arbor area was... this place was mentioned by a co-worker. I decided to look it up and go check it out. The menu is impressive with many unique options for breakfast and a super friendly staff. Sometimes you just want to drive down the street, avoid the hustle and bustle, plop down in a booth, and enjoy a nice relaxing meal with oldies music playing in the background. No gimmicks, no loud tvs, no one pushing apps or zerts, just plain old good home style cooking. Village kitchen is just that place. The honey-stung chicken is excellent. I really enjoy this diner. It's yummy food, nothing super fancy or gourmet but you can always rely on a decent, cheap breakfast or brunch. It's also very kid-friendly. My children's favourite's are the spaghetti with meatballs and the hamburger. My husband and I LOVE the Greek omelet. The wait-staff is also always very friendly. We got off to a rough start when we walked in the waitress rolled her eyes as she asked what we wanted to drink and we could not deciede. We found out later why.... We walked in 10 mins before closing. No excuse I know. However our service was great from then on she was very friendly and the food was plenty, reasonable priced and good diner food. Mediocre. I realize it's a small town diner so I wasn't expecting that much. There were four of us eating at 1:30 pm on a Thursday. Not a busy time of day when the kitchen would have been slammed. The diner was approximately at 25% seating capacity. Two of the orders were delivered wrong but were minor details so we didn't say anything. One of us ordered macaroni and cheese, it was cheesy gluten glop. Another ordered an omelet - it was an egg crepe that they put the cheese and ham into then folded into an envelope like a flat burrito. The cheese hadn't had time to even heat up and melt. It was easy to unfold and peel away the cheese from the egg. The ham, dry and salty. It was time to leave and we wanted to wash up before we left. The men's room urinal was not accessible due to a puddle of urine in front of it. Ok, so maybe someone went in before me and decided to make a piddle puddle but I wasn't getting near it and my thought was it just wasn't recent, it just hadn't been recently cleaned. Even the woodwork on the booths felt sticking from grease. My first and last visit to this joint. Sorry. Sad. read more

Went for breakfast day after Christmas. As a neighborhood place, and small business, this was delicious and not as pricey as other local breakfast places. The waitress was very pleasant and attentive. The coffee was good and service was quick on the java refills. Mom had the #5 with poached eggs: the eggs were perfectly done, the pancakes were delicious - and huge! Ham portion could have been a bit more generous. I has the Greek omelet - hot, generous on eggs and filling, maybe a bit more hash browns would have been cool. Atmosphere of a diner, but furniture and the booths look fresh and updated! This is the 2nd year we have taken our family here for breakfast on Christmas eve morning on our travels to family. We absolutely love it. The service was outstanding. Very friendly staff. Food for the 10 of use was delivered quick and was deliscous! My husband had the eggs Benedict with avacado and he raved on how fantastic it was. First time in. Ordered ham and cheese omelette only, no potatoes no toast. It was a typical omelette but it was $8. That's ok I knew that going in. Ordered a chef salad to go with vinegar and oil. I took that to work. Total bill-$24.00 including tip. Opened my salad and it was all ham and turkey, where's the salad? If I wanted lunchmeat I would have ordered a sandwich. The olive oil was tainted and I couldn't eat it. No lunch for me because I have no dressing. I won't be back. The server was very efficient and really nice. I'm just so sick of getting mediocre food for an outrageous price. read more
