I'll start by saying I bought my current running shoes from Road Runner sports, along with insoles, using their "Shoe Dog". I was training for the LA Marathon and during my long runs, 10+ miles, my feet would hurt so badly that I was nearly limping towards the end, and really questioning whether or not I would be able to complete the marathon. So I stopped by Village Runners since they're very close to my office. I explained the problem I was having, showed them my shoes, and my insoles, and the guy watched me walk barefoot through the store. He was completely straight forward which I really appreciated and said I had the best running shoes that I could have bought (Asics by the way), and that they weren't worn out yet, so he didn't want to sell me new shoes. He suggested that the isoles were unnecessary and to just give the shoes a try without them. Unfortunately, I had gotten rid of the insoles that came with the shoes... So, he gave me a new pair out of some recycled shoes, and didn't charge me! And so just like that, my debilitating foot pain that had made me question whether I'd make it to marathon day was gone along with those damn $40 insoles! I will definitely by my shoes here in the future. I appreciate the fact that he didn't BS me and try to sell me new shoes (had spent $150++ on the shoes and insoles in the first place) and even more so that he hooked me up with the regular insoles that I had stupidly gotten rid of. The key to great running shows is the fitting of them. And improper fit can lead to a lot of issues with your legs and knees. (which will make up for the difference in the long run) Village Runner takes the time to ask what you want to do, how you run, etc. and make sure of the fit!! read more

A great place for both veteran and rookie runners! The staff is super helpful for any questions you might have, and they specifically identify the kind of shoe you need that suits your purposes. I've ran Spartan Race, Tough Mudder, and the LA Marathon with these guys at my back and I don't regret a thing. The shoes, while a big up-front investment, last you a good while. My pairs go anywhere from 1-2 years of abuse (mud runs in the wilderness are no joke) and serve me well in my adventures. If you're in the area looking for a solid running shoe, look no further. I have been a runner for most of my life and I have to say the service at this store is one of the best.The guys working there know their running shoes and are willing to spend as much time with you as needed.Their prices are full retail but the service is amazing. I have now purchased 4 different pairs of running shoes(2 for my daughter) and the service is always top notch. If you go in the store and tell them what your running needs are and foot problems they always come up with a shoe that does the job.It isn't a big store and as the name says it's a store for runners(they don't have other types of shoes) but I can't recommend them enough. read more

I've been searching for a new running shoes store since my favorite store where I've gotten shoes for the past decade closed. My physical therapist recommended coming here because she felt that the employees really know a lot about the shoes. Village Runner has a good selection, and the employees did, in fact, seem to know a lot. They were patient with me while I tried pair after pair. They'll also let you go outside and run on the sidewalk to see if you like the feel of the shoes. Prices are competitive--they are the same as you'd find on Amazon, which tells me that they're not doing any kind of crazy mark-ups like some other stores do--and they have a 30 day return/exchange policy (if you run outside in the shoes and don't like them, they will exchange them in 30 days). The only thing that was missing--I wish that they had a treadmill so that the employees could watch you run and assess your gait in the shoe (this is what my old store did). read more

After the demise of my beloved Sauconys (RIP, neon green shoes!) it was time to get a replacement pair. A good experience for me, the novice, and my husband, the expert, alike. The gentleman who helped us checked out my gait and stance. He identified my gait as "neutral" and my arch as "neutral." Great--I have normal feet! Then a couple more questions and we had my shoes. I was quite literally hopping up and down. I had a great experience at this store compared to other competitors in the South Bay. Huge thank you to Jeffrey - he was so helpful and knowledgeable! I told him what I was looking for (low heel drop, lightweight shoes that could accomodate custom rigid orthotics) and my running style. He pulled four options, fitted me, and even let me test them out on the sidewalk out front. In less than 20 minutes, I had the perfect pair of shoes in hand. Bonus - they were even on sale! Started running as part of PT after an injury. My PT recomended Village Runner to help me find the correct running shoes for me. They were very helpful and took time with me to find the perfect shoe. They didn't have my size in this store so they had it brought up from their other location within a few hours. Also, as a new runner recovering from surgery I appreciate their 30 day try it policy. They said I can run in the shoes for 30 days and if they don't work for me I can bring them back and they will help me find another pair. read more

Great place! If you're thinking of going to Sports Authority or Big 5 or New Balance or any big chain place like that you are crazy. They will spend all the time you need to fit you, and they dont just try to put you in the most expensive pair of shoes. I was in there today and had the most pleasant experience. Bill saved me from myself as I wanted so badly to get some "pretty" running shoes. Of course I zeroed in on the day glow blue and as luck would have it, the shoes that I was drawn to were not the right fit for me. Bill reeled me in and reminded me that the way the shoe fits and feels if far more important than aesthetics. I ended up actually getting some "pretty" shoes after all but the correct model for my feet. Hurray! I can't wait to put some miles on them. Also, they have a large barrel next to the door to collect old shoes. When your sneakers are worn you can leave them and The Village Runner will donate them to the LA Mission. Awesome! read more

Great experience! I usually buy my running shoes online, but wanted to get some advice on a nagging IT band issue. Darren helped me and was very knowledgable and patient. He had me try on a few pairs of shoes that would help. I finally settled on some stability Nikes and was on my way. I used these shoes all summer and loved them. About a week ago, the sole started coming off one of the shoes. I was bummed. I had put some decent mileage on these guys, but it seemed like they shouldn't be falling apart on me this soon. I figured I'd drop into Village Runner and see what they thought. Darren was working there again. The minute I walked in and showed him my shoes, he said: "that shouldn't happen." He offered to give me a new pair on the spot. They didn't have the same shoe in my size, so he had me try on similar shoes. I didn't like any as much as what I had, so he ordered my size. They called me three days later and exchanged my used ones for brand new ones. I was completely blown away by this level of customer service. I have never had such an easy, hassle free experience. Very impressed with this store. As a beginner runner, I was looking for guidance on shoes to wear that would prevent injury and provide stability. Thankfully the GM made sure that was exactly what I got! He gave me all the time I needed to try on the shoes, and even provided helpful tips for running in general. Store is the best place to buy running shoes in the Los Angeles South Bay area. Owner purchased the original Redondo Beach location about twenty years ago and remains actively involved. Nearly all employees are seasoned runners who have a great attitude. They spend time after work hours learning products they sell from a vast shoe selection to Garmins, sun glasses, running apparel and more. If a shoe is not in stock, they willingly order it and have it available, usually the following day. They have sold me a less expensive shoe once due to my running form (I pronate!) In other words, they want what is best for the customer and are interested in building relationships. Both stores reach out to running shoe companies and regularly host enthusiastic events where shoe trials are often available. Weekly casual walk/run is out of Manhattan, and the group meets twice weekly running from Redondo Beach. Village Runner organizes two major races, and sponsors many other running events by establishing a booth near the finish line or a race expo before race day. The Manhattan Beach location willingly opens their doors for race sign up for about five smaller races each year, and has been the main place the for tradition rich Manhattan Beach 10K registration over the past five years. In summary, Village Runner does more than simply sell shoes. Their efforts bring the running community together. Nice little shope with a decent selection of shoes and apparel. For first time and beginner runners, this place definitely will not disappoint. The very first time I stepped into the Manhattan Beach Village Runner, I was actually looking for a pair of trail running shoes. Although I did not end up buying said shoes, I still found my experience to be quite pleasant. Granted, this was the first specialty running shop that I had ever stepped into at the time. However, since then, I have been to many other running shops which "dwarf" this one in terms of selection, size, and amount of product on hand. Upon first walking into the store, you will immediately notice how tiny VR truly is. The store is laid out with all apparel and accessories in the front of the store followed by shoes in the rear of the store. This layout works particularly well for this store because it forces to walk through and see everything the store has to offer which, in turn, has the potential of driving customers into an impulse purchase. But, have I mentioned how tiny it is? Being a very small store results in a limited amount of product that can be carried. For me, this means that my size is typically not carried. That being said, if you are a smaller runner, don't expect to find your size here. On the plus side though, if they don't have your size, you can always speak to an associate and they will order it for you. It just depends on whether or not you want to wait for it to arrive. Moving onto the shoes, you will notice that they have a decent selection from Addidas to Saucony and everything in between. The associates are quite helpful and knowledgeable when it comes to helping you pick out a shoe. However, it doesn't seem like they gave me much advice about what shoe would be best for me. It is probably because I already knew what I was looking for. However, based on an observation, I did notice that other customers who happened to walk in received very good service. Always a plus when it comes to a specialty running shop. However, similar to the apparel side, their sizes are very limited because of how small the shop is. Like I said though, if they don't have your size, they are willing to order it in for you. You just have to wait a few days. What is exceptional about this shop is their weekly group runs. If you need a group to run with, you won't go wrong running with this group. The store also sponsors a few races during the year so if you are looking for a 5k or 10k to participate in, it's very likely that this store will point you in the right direction. All in all, this is a good shop however, because I have been to quite a few "better" shops already, it is quite diificult for me to give it 4 stars, let alone 5 stars. I do give it my recommendation though since you won't be disappointed and you are assisted by a very helpful and knowledgeable staff. But, as stated above, the limited selection and lack of sizes hurts this store. read more

After straining my foot last year, I decided it was time to get a pair of running shoes that weren't just good, but right for my feet. My feet are a little high maintenance, as my friends love to remind me: long, narrow, high arches, etc. It was great to have someone who actually knew what they were doing observe my feet and gait to recommend a shoe. And they were spot-on! Best running shoe I've had. This time around, I knew exactly what to get. They ordered my shoe (high-maintenance, remember) and someone forgot to tell them or they forgot to tell me...who knows...but when I called to check on the status 2 weeks later, I found out the shoe was back-ordered for 6 months. They were extremely nice and offered to order the next step up in the shoe and give it to me at the same price as a way of apologizing. Wonderful service, good people, good product. What more could you ask for? I certainly won't be going anywhere else for my shoes! read more

I have been shopping at Village Runner in Redondo Beach for years until they opened Manhattan Beach a few years ago. If you are a runner and live anywhere near the So Bay you should be shopping here. The staff are so friendly , greeting everyone as they enter the store. They really know what they are doing and take pride in spending as much time as you need to find the proper fitting shoe for your foot. I have been impressed by all the recommendations from shoes to socks to blister cream!, and they do not only try to sell you the most expensive items in the store!!! They are even taking the time to help me understand my Garmin 405!! I don't know many stores that will offer to spend that kind of time with someone! These guys are the best !!! I've always come here when i need new running shoes. The two guys working there on Saturday were really helpful with picking out shoes for the wife and I. They were just as helpful four years ago when i first started running. Expect full retail price for the shoes, but sometimes you just have to support the people who give you that extra service, and i HATE paying full price.
