The reviews for this place is very inconsistent so I was very nervous to try it. It seems it gets a one star or a five-star with some people claiming it's the best Mexican around. I don't think those people know Mexican food or they just give out five stars all willy-nilly like because the food is decent. I got the carne asada nachos. The chips were a bit stale and like many people say the carne has absolutely no seasoning. I gave it an average because the service was friendly, they gave me a side of beans even though I didn't ask for it, and they did a good job with the amount of Pico - cream and Guac The only complaint I have is why do people ask if you want red or green only to give you one tiny red and one tiny green when I say red every single time?! Drives me crazy and they did it to me. Will I return with so many other places around? Only if I'm going to the liquor store next door and I'm really hungry otherwise there's too many other options. So, when I can't decide what to have for lunch, I end up choosing to try a new spot... sometimes I find a hidden gem. Sometimes I find a cubic zirconia if you catch my drift. This place isn't the best and it isn't the worst. It isn't the cleanest. It is cash only and doesn't have an indoor dining area, which means also no air conditioning. What they do have is pricey taco shop food, red and green salsa and workers that are friendly which is why I gave them a generous 3 stars. I ordered their carne asada chips, which they call nachos. It came out on a plate, which looked as if though it might have been microwaved. The cheese stuck to the plate in some spots. The meat was tasty but the beans and salsa fresca was a bit too overbearing for my liking. There was a blab of sour cream and guacamole just for the sake of saying it was on it lol. I believe their food is authentic. I probably won't be back. I should have known... there was no drive thru, they didn't accept credit or debit and it was dead when I made the dreadful decision to dine here. Needless to say, I ended up finishing my food as I am always thankful to be able have a meal and didn't want to be wasteful. Try other spots in town. You can thank me later. read more

Every time I come here I regret it and tell myself it's the last time. Very aggravating service. Had to repeat my order three times. And once in Spanish! While watching her make my chinzy overpriced burrito then stop to handle the broom for some reason, then go back to finish it I should have just gotten my money back and left but hunger had me hanging in there. Authentic BUT just ok. Ordered the 3-steak taco plate w/beans (it comes with rice and beans.) Tacos had ALL of the fixings: onions, cilantro, guacamole, sauce. They were perfect (looking.) Taste however was BLAND! Not even a pinch of seasoning, marinade, salt, pepper....NOTHING! Quite disappointed because I looooovvvvve a good taco. Unfortunately this place wasn't able to provide that. So good! I love this place. The only reason I'm not giving a full 5 stars is because my husband is not a fan of their chorizo. They have ceviche which is delicious. Their breakfast is great and they serve more than just burritos. Breakfast tacos and plates too! The don't have an indoor dining area but they do have a wonderful patio and in Fallbrook it is always great to sit outside. In my quest to try every restaurant in Fallbrook ran into this place. I stopped by tonight on a Tuesday night when it was not too busy. There was ample parking and you have to order at a window kind of like how you would order your food at a taco truck. There is sitting outside and little heaters to keep you warm. When I showed up there was a small group sitting at some of the tables so there wasn't any available tables left for me so I decided to eat in my car like a couple of other people that I saw. I ordered four asada tacos for $5. The four tacos came on a single plate with a couple of slices of lime and slices of radish I also got a side of red hot sauce. The meat was not too greasy and it was a little bit salty. The taste of the asada was drowned out by the thickness of the tortilla that it was wrapped in. I can't honestly say that it was the greatest tacos I've ever had but it wasn't bad either. It was average. The limes and hot sauce make it taste better. In my opinion, tacos should taste great without sauce or additional condiments, but taste is purely subjective depending on how you like your tacos. If you're looking for a cheap place to eat in Fallbrook, this is the place to go! read more

I was running late to my first date with this guy I met online and I was absolutely starving and didn't want to look too hungry in front of him (first impressions matter!). I hastily ordered the california burrito. Absolutely no regrets. It was so amazing- from the fresh guacamole to the well seasoned carne asada. Not only was the interior superb- but the exterior. 5 stars for authenticity. Always high quality fresh ingredients. They even have cotija queso! Everything is done good here. Breakfast torta's, meats and seasoning, tortillas, salsas red and green. Even the basic ingredients like beans and rice are prepared with tradition and authenticity. I think since the kitchen is so small it requires them to stay organized, and with a small amount of storage room ingredients are fresh. It's the Village Taco - Everyone's had a bite! On my few trips to Fallbrook I've always wanted to try this place and I finally had the pleasure on my wedding day of all days. Yes after an early ceremony and reception I was craving a carnitas torta and boy did the Village Taco deliver. Cash only and all the ambiance of outdoor tables on Mission Road. I love coming to this place whenever I don't feel like cooking and want some authentic Mexican food. So far everything I've ordered had been delicious. Tonight I ordered the enchiladas plate and it's the first place that I've gone to that actually makes their own enchilada salsa. Perfect red rice and beans. Of course made here as well. This place was a great bar hangout for USN officer and enlisted types. Just pure fun and always packed. The drinks were decent enough. Haven't been there in a few years but us drinking buddies from ASU, Tempe, AZ always stopped there when in San Diego. Don't expect too much of it as a restaurant. It is meant to be a watering hole, a hole in the wall packed with people at the bar all night long and just having a good time. Sure hope it is still like that today. One of my favorite spots in Fallbrook, my husband and I usually eat here a few times a month. I really recommend anything with carnitas and he loves the steak and shrimp burrito. I've seen good and bad reviews for Village Taco, but my experience has not been positive after three visits. I really can't understand the positive reviews. Cash-only which is inconvenient and causes me to question the honesty of the owners. The location is in a parking lot next to a liquor store with most customers stopping to buy one can of beer at a time and drinking in the parking lot. The outdoor seating area is in the parking lot and next to a chain link fence which houses a large storage container and the trash bins, so the smell on warm days is pretty bad and flies are ALWAYS a problem. Not the cleanest place to eat, the employees pick up trash in the eating area but they do not wipe the table tops which were sticky each time I've visited. The parking lot is favored by local skateboarders. Most customers seem to eat in their cars or take-out because eating there is gross. The food is mediocre but I guess on par for a cheap, parking lot taco stand. Enchiladas were two tacos, literally, with a bland tomato sauce poured over them. Corn tortillas folded over (a taco) with chicken and absolutely no other ingredients, only a bland tomato sauce poured over them. When I complained, I was told that they've always made them that way, and "everyone loves them." Beans were very runny but rice was ok. No ice for drinks, only canned drinks and no refills. No hard shell tacos available. The people taking orders on each of my three visits were not friendly and it takes quite awhile to get your order. I found other customers sitting in their cars while they waited for their order. Three visits are enough for me and my wife refuses to go there. She says it's gross. Bad location, poor service, smells, flies, drunks and skateboarders in the parking lot, and barely passable food. There are better options in the immediate area. Great authentic cheap Mexican food. We ordered the vegetarian quesadilla, grilled chicken chimichanga, and grilled fish taco. Everything was great and portions were generous. Everything plus a couple cans of soda was around $17. The meat (chicken and fish) were good quality and not gristly or greasy. The rice (in the chimichanga filling) had good flavor. We went on a Sunday afternoon and there was a middle school aged kid working the cash register. I'm guessing he was the only one who spoke English, so if you don't speak enough Spanish to order, you might want to come on a weekend rather than a school day. It's cash only and there is a small outdoor seating area (it does have a tarp over it for some shade), but I'd suggest taking it to go. Since there's no real ambience, I'd not suggest this for a date place or anything, but it's great when taken to go. They pack it well so it won't spill, and they include plastic cutlery and napkins. I've grabbed food to go from here when visiting the liquor store. If there's one food I know, it's Mexican. I think I probably got a chile verde plate, it's usually my go to meal. The food and hot sauces were good. But these Mexican places not accepting cards is inconvenient! You lose business this way.
