    Vodka sauce with capellini

My mom and I stopped here on a dark and chilly Tuesday night. It turns out Tuesday is their karaoke night, which was interesting to see. Very lively bunch. We were seated in their dining room, which fortunately had a door to enclose it, so it was nice and quiet. We would've had a view of the lake had it been light outside still. We ordered cokes and the fried mozzarella to start. The sticks were unimagined, as if they had taken them out of the freezer and placed into the oven (realistically, they likely did). For a nice Italian spot, I would've expected something that felt a little less Restaurant Depot and a little more...seasoned? Our pasta dishes came with complementary bread and a DELIGHTFUL garlicky olive oil dip. That was probably the highlight for me. I went ham on that olive oil (and suffered the consequences, let's just say many tums were consumed). I ordered the vodka sauce with cappellini, and my mom had penne alla vodka. Both were good, as well as large-sized portions. The pasta dishes also came with salads, which included your choice of dressing. On our way out, the host jokingly said, "So I'll see you next Tuesday for karaoke?" which cracked me up (I don't think she realized the phrase she said haha). Overall, I enjoyed myself and would just skip the apps next time.

To celebrate a late Mother's Day, my family and I decided to try Villari's after seeing them in the Clipper for so long. When we arrived, the restaurant was a bit empty but was servicing a sweet 16 party. There was no obvious signage on where to go, and no hostess to be found. Getting seated was disorganized but we eventually were sat outside as requested by the lakeside after asking the bartender for help (who didn't end up helping but waited with us until someone showed up.) The service was very slow and disorganized. Couldn't decide if they were just understaffed or missing key management that day. Thankfully, we wanted to enjoy each others time so we didn't mind but I could see myself getting impatient in any other occasion. Food arrival was very slow as well and the food was OK. I believe the sauce of mine was broken and I struggled with having butter splashing everywhere. They were kind enough to let me substitute the pasta for broccolini instead. The food wasn't memorable. The lake view is beautiful and feels like a tiny oasis from the otherwise suburban side road this restaurant is available on. Seems like there's a lot of opportunity here to become a better restaurant but they left a lot more to be deserved from a front of the house and service POV.

Great location in Sicklerville with the view of the lake. Stopped by for a late lunch early dinner with friends. We had reservations which was not needed as we were the only people in the dining area when we sat down. The French onion soup was delicious! The pesto chicken pizza was also very good. Both were the high light of the meal.

Two Fridays ago, we went to Villari's Lake Side for our office's holiday luncheon. It was my first time here, but I had heard very good things about the restaurant from coworkers and was really looking forward to going. Villari's has a lot of options on its lunch menu - small plates, pasta, sandwiches, salads, homemade soups, flatbreads, 1/2 lb burgers, an Ahi Tuna Burger, wraps, etc.. They also have a variety of appetizers and wings (traditional and boneless with different wing sauces like Thai Sweet Chili and Garlic Parmesan). This is what our table ordered and everyone was pleased with their entrée. - Roast Pork Italiano: Sautéed broccoli rabe and roasted red peppers with sharp provolone on Italian bread (default side is potato chips) - Hand-Carved Roast Beef: Italian roll with provolone cheese with the $3 fries upgrade. - Risotto Pescatore: Shrimp, scallops and jumbo lump crab-meat prepared with fresh plum tomatoes marinara or sautéed garlic and olive oil simmered in risotto. One of the standout things that I want to commend is how welcoming and attentive the people working there were to our group when we were there. The hostess was very friendly and walked us to the dining room and to a table, which had a pretty view of the lake behind the property. Our waitress was on point and offered menu suggestions. PLUS, she overheard that it was my coworker's birthday, so when she brought out our desserts, there was a lit birthday candle on my coworker's cake slice. So thoughtful! I would come back here again. Plus, I'm also curious during summer how the outdoor patio area is.

Unfortunately this was a working lunch so had to have raspberry tea. It wasn't bad. May have had two. Yep I did. I ordered us a candied bacon to start and then I had the tuna poke salad. The bacon was delicious but some was a bit charred. I still ate it cause it was delicious just a bit charred on the ends . Now the Tuna poke salad was interesting. Not a typical poke bowl. Very tasty and yes it and the bacon filled me up. The rice said it was a coconut rice. Well it is. I tasted in the first bite and it was pleasantly different. Service was great just soft spoken. Too many years around construction equipment other things that don't help hear in a restaurant. I would love to come back in the evening so I could enjoy one of their list of adult beverages. Next time I will try and not stay away so long.

Our service was OK, but they were pretty busy. My only true complaint is that it was so loud that we had difficulty hearing one another speak, which is not ideal for girls night out. We enjoyed a pre-dinner drink at the bar, and we were so impressed by how friendly the bartenders were. They were engaging and social. They set off our evening on a high note! My Pink Jaguar cocktail was beautiful and caused quite a buzz among the bar patrons! We opted to sit outside, and we are glad we did. The space is open and breezy but fully covered. No need to worry if a passing shower makes its way overhead. Steamed clams in white wine and Truffle fries for the table to start. Yum! All entrees are accompanied by a house salad or Ceasar salad. Our group ordered the Limone Chicken, Chicken Sfiziosa, Steak Frite, and the Eggplant Meatballs/Risotto. Everything came out piping hot and delicious. We loved everything. I know their linguine is house made, but not certain of the other pasta varietals. Cheesecake and Cannoli for dessert, because why not? Really nice experience! Our server was sweet and super-efficient. My only question for Filomena's Lakeview is "Where is the lake?" :)

We arrived around 3:45 PM without reservations and they immediately took us to an open table. Iced Waters were instant. Our server was very pleasant and she took our order. Bread quickly followed with two types served: Italian with sesame seeds and focaccia; however I was puzzled that it was served with a plate of hot peppers and onions in a juice. It seemed off but perhaps it's a Jersey thing. I've been all over in Italy and have never seen this. Olive oil would have been fine along with a splash of balsamic vinegar. Either way I skipped bread condiments. Next came the Fried Tomatoes topped with Lump Crab as an appetizer, but once again I had another head-scratcher, as this dish wasn't typical. First the entire dish lacked seasoning plus salt. Then red tomatoes were used and we all know what happens when you try to fry one. It turns to water after you cut it. The lump crab is what probably made this dish pricey but 3 thinly slices of a red tomato caught me off guard. Now for the final knock out: I ordered the Bone In Pork Chop and impressed that I was asked how Iiked it prepared? I said 145 degrees. She said, you mean well- done. I stated no, that would be in a range of medium. Lo and behold, it was fantastically preparation temperature, but it came topped with the same peppers and onions concoction that came out with the bread. I had no idea that this was a smothered situation. My broccolini was also a mystery. The mashed potatoes were mid. Now on to my daughter's chicken Parmesan: She said that it lacked flavor and had to add salt and pepper and also stated that the sauce was loose and there was too little of it. My wife enjoyed her Salmon. Jersey is cooking differently!!!!! I forgot to add: Underneath of my pork chop I discovered a mysterious piece of corn. I had no corn in my dish??????
