Solid place to sample any whiskey in the world! Don't be afraid to pull out your credit card though - it's gets expensive quick!! My only downside to TWH is the dim lighting. Very hard to read the menu or appreciate the color of the pour. They are in The Guinness Book for having over 4500 bottles!!

If they don't have it it doesn't exist

Let's just say Nicole was the best! We took the train and Reilly down from North County and my son told us this place was a must! Nicole was amazing! Sweet New Yorker that shared her favorites with us and made sure we had a great pregame ! Thanks so much approved from 21-81 years old

Finally made it down here for happy hour and it was WELL worth it. The food, the prices - everything absolutely hit. We got the wings, steak, fish ceviche (fire), and the crème brûlée. Every single dish delivered. Honestly, I couldn't believe how affordable it was. In this day and age, this is the spot if you want solid food with GREAT pricing.

Service was great! The food was not so great for me. I ordered the brunch special w/2 medium eggs with egg whites cooked but yolk runny. I had one cooked egg and another cooked hard. The ambiance was nice the tables were swaying and unstable. My pancake was raw in the middle. I was really disappointed. Everyone else was satisfied.

This is the dirty glass she took the cherry from.

At 8pm yesterday (5/26/26, I had a wonderful drink until I watched the female bartender making a drink for the lady next to me. She took out of a dirty glass that I pushed away when I sat down the pick with a cherry and placed it into the drink she was making! Ugh! Uck! Yuck! Why would she do that except to lazy to make a new cherry! I didn't order another drink from her! We just left. It took everything in me not to tell the customer where her garnish came from!!!

This is not my first time here because truly I love coming here. The whiskey is always really good. They have good recommendations. The ambience is super dim lit, and it's a very social place where good conversation and good whiskey collide My favorite whiskeys are Russell's 10 year Blantons Does peanut butter whiskey is probably on my top 3 so far It does get pretty busy so I would say either come early or come during the week

We stumbled upon this little gem accidentally while looking for the Lazy Hippo for breakfast, it's right next door. To our surprise, they have the same menu the Lazy Hippo had when it was open, which was such a happy find. This ended up being one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. The food was hot, fresh, and absolutely delicious, and the service was outstanding. Nicole and Kelsey were our servers, and they were incredibly friendly and personable, making our brunch experience even better. It's hard to find a place where all four of us completely agree that it's exceptional, but this one absolutely did! I had the California breakfast burrito, my husband had the $20 breakfast special, which included bacon, sausage, eggs, potatoes, and French toast topped with fresh strawberries, our son had a regular breakfast burrito, and our daughter had the cinnamon roll pancake. All were absolutely delicious! This will definitely be a regular breakfast stop for us every time we're in San Diego!

I had such a better experience this time around at the Whiskey House! Drinks were great and not watered down, a good sweetness and balance to the Whiskey sour in particular. They have super tasty wings with great prices on snacks during happy hour (daily 4-7pm). The whiskey sour was only $8 on happy hour-- awesome! I'll definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for a dimly lit, relaxed whiskey bar experience downtown. The service was also quick while they were pretty busy :)

Very cool spot in the Gaslamp to enjoy many whiskey options, as well as grab a bite to eat. So many options for flights, and the staff is super friendly (and patient) the whiskey/liquor book is 93 pages, lol. Espresso martini was so delicious, with Bailey's foam. The food was pretty decent, we tried some happy hour options: Vietnamese wings, fries, and Scotch eggs. I'd try something different next time. I really liked the fresh cut fries with their house ketchup.

The food was amazing and service was great. I really enjoyed the menu on happy hour and major plus cause it's 7 days a week. Will definitely return!!

Even if you just stop by for a drink, you need to check out the largest selection of whiskey in the world! I had cheeseburger and fries with a Salted Caramel Old Fashion. Both were outstanding. Didn't get a 5th star because the staff didn't seem like they wanted to be there.

I had a good time here at the Whiskey house for happy hour on a Thursday night. Came with a large group of 20 and I ordered two orders of "The Japanese" whiskey, the flat iron and fried steak, and wings. Service was very friendly and efficient. The whiskey was good, will have to come back again and try their higher end whiskey tastings. I ordered my flat iron steak medium rare but it came well done. Thankfully the flavor was good, the cut of meat was good, and it was still fairly juicy and tasty.

The Whiskey House Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - The Whiskey House

Is there valet or assigned parking?

Absolutely not. You're on your own.

    Are they dog friendly?

    Yes, on the patio.

Can you make reservations for groups less than 6 people?

Yes they do. I did one on their website.

Can we bring children who aren't 21 if we want to come to eat?

Yes, kids can be inside until 9pm. There is outdoor seating as well.

    Is there plenty outdoor seating?

They are mostly, if not all indoor.

Menu says tastings are .5oz pours. Several reviews have mentioned bigger. So what size are the tasting pours? And what size are neat pours?

I can confirm that Tasting Pours are 1/2oz. but while I usually drink "neat", I had an Old Fashioned this time so I don't know the answer to the second half of the question.

    Is there a dress code?

No there is not, or its casual at best

Are kids allowed to go in with parents for Happy Hour?

It's a bar. People drink in this bar. It's called the Whiskey House for a reason. Please don't bring your kids!

    Do they have whiskey tastings?

Yes there is a tasting menu

    What days are happy hour?

They have happy hour every day from 4:30pm to 7pm.

Is this a 21 and over restaurant?

I believe so. But hey maybe if you want to start educating the kiddos on whiskey from a young age...

I probably did the wrong thing and didn't allow the ice packed on top of the swizzle to melt thoroughly enough into the drink to dilute the 151 overproof black Demerara's rum. Nae worries, brah. It's hidden behind Craft & Commerce, and once you step inside, the immersive tiki atmosphere really sets the mood. However, at the bar, if you see a reservation sign and they're not there yet, staff will let you sit down once it's time to get up for the reserved party. DRINKS: 9/10 The cocktails were creative, well crafted, and definitely strong enough to make you feel like you were getting your money's worth. I also loved how much attention they put into the presentation. Every drink looked like a piece of art and added to the whole tiki experience. SERVICE: 9/10 The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. They took the time to answer questions and made great recommendations without making us feel rushed. AMBIANCE: 10/10 This is easily the highlight of the experience. The entire space is beautifully designed, and every little detail makes it feel like you've escaped into a hidden tropical bar. It's cozy, intimate, and unlike any other place I've been to in San Diego. Reservations are definitely worth making since the space is on the smaller side and fills up quickly. The only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is that, while the experience and ambiance were amazing, the drinks are definitely on the pricier side. I understand you're paying for the craftsmanship and atmosphere, but it's probably not somewhere I'd visit regularly because of that. It's common for tiki bars to be pricey so it was to be expected. Overall, I'm really glad I finally got to experience False Idol. If you're in San Diego and enjoy creative cocktails in a one-of-a-kind atmosphere, I'd definitely recommend checking it out at least once!

His questions guided my indecision towards a Berkshire Old Fashioned that was fantastic despite my fumbling to get there. With the warm up round over and the old fashioned loosening up my creativity, round two was set to be a knockout. I love coffee (specifically strong espresso drinks), so I asked for a strong, coffee infused, punchy cocktail, but with a different base of alcohol from the old fashioned. What came out was the best cocktail I will probably ever have in my life. The bourbon cocktail with coffee liqueur (and a number of other garnishes I will never remember) hit the bullseye. Flavorful, strong, bold, delicious all at the same time. Unfortunately (?), this was a noble experiment so I'll forever be chasing the white whale of what this drink was. But that's the allure.
