We went here to dine in for pizza. The place is small so it is open to the kitchen. The pizza was a bit burnt and the place smelled that way too. The pizza was just okay if you like it on the burnt side. We prefer not burnt so it wasn't our first choice in the area. They do take out and that was busy. Dining in we were the only ones the entire meal and it was 5:30 pm the tables are close together and not fancy. The pizza had flavors but nothing to write home about. Wow. 6 months ago I would have rated this 5, but not today. This has been our go-to pizza place for years, ordering every week. I sang their praises whenever I could. I was a die hard fan. Then idk what happened. The last few weekends that we've ordered it's been getting progressively worse. This is my first experience here on a friends recommendation. I must say that I'm not disappointed. The ingredients are so fresh, the sauce is light and tangy. The crust is thin and flavorful. The first time I visited this establishment was on May 5. I called ahead for a takeout order of VINCITORI pizza and I was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. I promptly arrived 15 minutes later and it was all boxed and ready to go, I took it home and noticed that the crust was burned in two places, otherwise the pizza met my expectations. read more

It pains me to leave anything less than a 5-star review for Vincitori Apizza because when they first came to town, they were phenomenal, and we were so very grateful to have a quality nearby pizza place. The sad reality, though, is that they have been going downhill over the past year, and it really breaks my heart! Our last 4-5 take-out pizza orders from them have just been sad. Here's the most recent example: We ordered two pizzas, one a custom and the other the marinara, which is described as "red sauce, basil, garlic oil, topped with fresh, lemon-dressed arugula (vegan)". The marinara arrived with about 5 pieces of basil cooked in across the entire pizza, and no arugula on top at all, as shown in the photograph. The missing arugula was a new low for them. I should have taken a picture. The pizza was for my mom, and she was disappointed, and she also felt embarrassed for ordering it because she already thought we were "paying too much" for pizza. As for the custom pizza, it had its proper toppings (basil & roasted red peppers - I always get veggie toppings), but they were very sparse -- and that is one of the core complaints I have had with Vincitori's decline; the amount of toppings have gotten skimpier and skimpier over time. This time there was also a new low, though: A lot of the crust, and the underside of the pizza, was burned. We're talking solid black folks. It was edible, but it had that burnt toast flavor to it. Not very nice. About a month or two ago, when we called to place an order on a Sunday, we were startled to hear that they weren't taking any pizza orders because they were sold out... It's the first time in my life that I've ever tried to order from a pizza place and was told I couldn't buy a pizza... So... This is where we're at, folks. All good things eventually come to an end, I suppose. I miss the old you, Vincitori Apizza. On the bright side, maybe this will finally give me the push to master making my own pizza at home. Before Vincitori came to town, the only pizza place we liked was Pepe's in Mohegan Sun, but it's quite an ordeal to park and walk through the casino to it and to carry it back out, whilst passers by make comments like "pizza delivery" and "can I have a slice?" The staff are super friendly, our server made us feel like beloved family, and the pizza was perfectly made with fresh ingredients and the perfect dough. The food was delish and neapolitan style pizza. We got a large chopped salad and shared together. The clam chowder was so hearty it had many different pieces of seafood. The potato pizza had bacon and leeks. The only reason I gave them 4 stars is because I feel like potato pizza needs sour cream but they had none in the restaurant. OK. I give it a strong 4 stars. The employees in the phone are lovely I have to say. No complaints there. They do take out with curbside delivery which is perfect. As for the food- the salad is very similar to Pizza works- some might actually say they copied it- but I'm not complaining because the large is plentiful and tasty. However the balsamic dressing is a bit sweet for me. The pizza is very good. We get their original- and we have had the sausage too. Second time we ordered the dough was chewy and not as crispy as the first. Might ask for well done crust next time. It's definitely in the top 3-4 pizza places in EL, OL and OS if you ask me. We moved to the area about a year ago and tried several pizza places before we started a low carb diet in January. All of the other pizza places got 2-3 stars from us and, frankly, we gave up looking for a great pizza in the area. A few months back, our neighbor asked if we had tried Vincitori and we admitted that we had not. He strongly recommended that we give it a try whenever we were ready for a cheat night (we've been on a low carb diet). WELL, that day came and we ordered both the potato pie AND a custom pie with pepperoni, meatball, and onions. Don't judge....one gets serious about a cheat day after strictly adhering to low carb for 9 months. My husband also ordered the seafood chowder; I didn't order the chowder because I have never had one that I love. Everything was amazing. The chowder was off the rails. The pizza was much like our favorite place back 'home'; New Haven style, good amount of cheese and toppings, and the little pepperoni slices even 'cupped' during the cooking process, to retain all of that luscious spicy fat goodness. Pros: Pizza is awesome! GREAT ingredients = great pizza! They have a sourdough crust that has an amazing taste. We also loved the potato pie as they THINLY sliced the potato, with mozzarella, leeks, cheddar and BACON. WINE was extremely reasonably priced. The owner is clearly not trying to rip people off on alcohol because we only paid $14 for a bottle of Chianti. I love any restaurant who isn't out to screw over people on wine! Seafood Chowder. Let me fan myself as I think about it! Um...I'm very particular about any chowder. My husband ordered the seafood chowder and I 'grimaced'...and said, 'hey you get whatever you want'. It arrived, and looked thick and delicious. I immediately asked for a bite...or two. AS he was chatting with the waitperson, I may have snuck a few more bites. SO AMAZING....full of good seafood, and great flavor. Well done...well done! I would suggest offering various hot sauces as a condiment because some people like that (not me...but some people do) The place was spotless which, in these crazy times, is really important. SO attentive! Clearly wanting to make the customers happy. Cons: um.... none. Okay they only have a cookie for dessert but who cares, I was SO STUFFED after the pizza who cares about dessert! BUT we are eating the leftovers this evening for one last hurrah. Tonight was our first visit to the new Vincitori Apizza on Main Street in Niantic- they get an A+! Nice table and table setting that was inviting to sit down to. Quick and friendly service by a sweet young lady with a cool lemon tattoo. Great Jonathan Edwards Cabernet Sauvignon served in a perfectly shaped and balanced wine glass ... not a cheap Libby thick stemmed heavy wine glass. (They hooked me with the nice wine glass) Great chilled water bottle for the table with a perfectly shaped large water glasses that was comfortable in the hand. Coca Cola for Joe, served in a in a glass bottle, poured over ice. And finally, a really great pizza. Thin crust with crisp and chew. Great balance of cheese and toppings cooked to a perfect melt. Visited Vincitori Apizza on their second night open. This is a family business that is still working out the kinks of a new restaurant but are off to a great start. The pizza is made with a thin sourdough crust and offered with a nice selection of toppings. Our potato pizza was delicious. We also enjoyed the rosemary focaccia bread, chopped salad and clam chowder (which also had lobster, shrimp and scallops...).
