Instead of checking with the bartender or trying to make it right, she insisted it was a full 5-ounce pour and dismissed my concern. I've worked in the restaurant business, and I know how important it is to make customers feel heard. A small top-off or even an effort to address my concern would have completely changed my impression. After my visit, I happened to meet someone who said they had experienced the same thing with the wine pours on a previous visit. Whether that's a coincidence or not, it certainly made me wonder. It's a shame because I enjoyed the food, but the way this was handled makes me question whether I'll return.

The three Italian places along Grand Avenue - all do their own thing well. I think hands down, without a blink of doubt, that Vinny's Subs make the best sandwiches clearly on Grand Avenue, and dare I say in the city. Now anyone can make a sandwich, yeah? It seems like an impossible task to #$@ one up. But if you are reading this, then you - like me, have had BAD sandwiches that left you feeling cheated and sour. When you consider how simple a sandwich can be. I can't get too into detail on what FARM the cheese was made on, or what the turkey was doing before it became my lunch staple - I have no time or interest in that. The thing that makes Vinny's so #@! good is every sandwich has the PERFECT amount of everything that comes on it. It's total balance in your mouth, each bite has the right amount of everything paced through the whole damn sub. Have you ever eaten a poorly made sub, just to have the avocado blow its whad in the first two bites and then you choke down dry bread or something so soaked in brine you may as well pickle your own hat. Vinny's Subs let you enjoy each item in the sandwich, in the right amount - for the whole sandwich. Everything is put together perfectly. That's the only word I can describe it. There is something magical in their bread I also feel. Not only does it hold the sandwich together, but has a wonderful taste and mouth-feel that you can only get from well made bread. What I got was a chicken parm and a Caesar club. Strike one. Unfortunately, things didn't get much better from there. The chicken parm was gritty and mostly crust, with hardly any chicken. My friend said the Caesar club wasn't good at all. They told me I should go back and get my money, but honestly, I chalked it up to them being in a new place and maybe still getting used to their surroundings. I think part of me just couldn't believe that a place I remembered so fondly had taken such a turn for the worse. I couldn't even bring myself to go back and face them. I can't say I'll be going back anytime soon. Somewhere, an angel just lost its wings.
