I was excited to try the Capital Grille in San Antonio as it is relatively new. I had a perfectly cooked NY strip steak that was melt in your mouth, cooked to perfection paired with a Cabernet Sauvignon wine and the flourless chocolate espresso cake for dessert. I am traveling this week and am absolutely delighted that I came in for dinner. The bar was not busy and my server Brodney was absolutely wonderful. He confirmed my choices and made my small adjustments with zero fuss. The Tuna Tartar was absolutely the best dish. Our waiter Samuel A. was absolutely top-tier ,attentive, professional, and made the whole experience feel elevated. The GM Chris also went above and beyond, and another manager (didn't catch his name) even let me taste the lobster bisque, which was amazing. The food was perfect. My dear neighbor and friend, Michele, took me out for a birthday dinner. We tried @thecapitalgrille for the first time. I had a mocktail and Michele had red wine. The raisin bread was delicious but my favorite was the ONION BREAD OMGGGGGG We ordered the following: Appetizer: Tuna Tar Tar sooo yummy - just please add more crackers I only counted 5 half cut crackers. As we drove up to valet (complimentary) we we're immediately greeted by Marco. We then entered the restaurant and were greeted by the entire host staff. To compare, my number one is III Forks in Austin lol. We also did on the table family style so there was sauteed spinach with garlic which was very delicious. Sauteed mushrooms is also very delicious as well I didn't really care for lobster mac and cheese to me that's like going to fast food or home instant food even though this is supposed to be a bougie restaurant. The pumpernickel bread was delicious with some raisins and some of them. Everybody else ordered something else they all were enjoying especially the sea bass that my cousin ordered since she came along to I did like butternut squash with apple soup it was out of the usual then eating New England clam chowder or lobster bisque. There is also some fries that I did not care for that was from my cousin's boyfriend. Service was amiable Brandon was a really good server or host. Ambience was a bit dark but I guess that's what they want to give you that dim lit romantic feel. I finished off with a dessert the coconut pie which was not your traditional coconut crust they had like a cookie wafer a really thin one that was delicious other than that very expensive if you have seven people but if someone else's covering the bill shoot anything taste delicious other than that if it was me also I would come back it's been a long time since I've been to Capital grille I'll probably have to take my older sister back in Chicago to a Capital grille since she never had one. The Capital Grille is located near Fiesta Texas, just off I-10. Getting there was easy for us, but we were able to take access roads the entire way. It may be a hassle for those coming from the south, though. We had reservations for 1345 since we were both off for Veterans Day. For some reason, when we checked in at the hostess/host booth, we were left standing there for 5 minutes. There was no reason given, the place was barely filled ,and there were no other patrons waiting to be seated. With two hostesses standing at the front, we gave each other a side-eye that said, "Do we really want to eat here?" We were finally led to a booth on the fringe of the dining room. If you've been to one Capital Grille, you pretty much know what this one looks like. Typical steakhouse ambiance, except not as dark as it usually is during dinner service. Our server arrived about 5 minutes after we were seated, presented our menus, and took our water preference and cocktail orders. We both ordered cocktails from their menu and also requested the pan-fried calamari and a Caesar salad to split. The calamari had a delicate, crispy exterior and was perfectly tender. It has a mild, tangy spice from banana and/or cherry peppers and is absolutely worth the visit. I would return just for that dish. **UPDATE: we went back as a "make-up" and the calamari was tough. I retract my previous statement** The Caesar salad came on two plates and had a dressing that was thinner and more lemony than I'm used to. It was a sparse salad of romaine leaves that had sat too long in the acidic dressing, so it was beginning to wilt by the time we ate it. I'd skip that next time. About 10 minutes after we ordered, our server brought our appetizers and took our entree order. I ordered the steak frites lunch plate, which came with your choice of a soup or salad. I selected the New England Clam Chowder. I requested a medium-rare plus, specifying that I prefer it closer to medium-rare if need be. My husband ordered the bone-in NY strip cooked medium-rare. We finished our appetizers and noted that we still hadn't received our cocktails. I asked about them, and he told me they were just about ready. He returned a few moments later with the cocktails. The flow of service was disjointed throughout the meal because we were offered "bread" after receiving (and sending back one of) our entrees. The "bread" was a type of lavash, not a slices of a loaf. He mentioned that the other bread they served wasn't finished baking. We told him we were fine and passed on it. My clam chowder was run-of-the-mill and didn't taste like it was made in house. My steak was overcooked, almost well done, so I asked him to take it back. He badgered me about keeping the fries to "snack on" while I waited, repeatedly asking if I was sure and how he insisted on my keeping the fries while he replaced the steak. I told him firmly each time that I would like to enjoy a complete entree and not "snack" on anything. He finally respected what I was telling him and returned the plate. The exec chef came out and made a big to-do about presenting me a properly cooked replacement steak, which I thought was a bit much. The final result wasn't seared properly, but was seasoned well and cooked to the proper temperature. By that time, however, my husband had finished his steak (after I told him to eat it before it got cold), and the whole hassle of returning it made me lose my appetite. I took it home and ate it for lunch the next day. We spoke with the GM, who sympathized with our complaints and welcomed our compliments. Later, he would email us to apologize again and extend an invitation to give them another opportunity. We will, but I hope we have a more streamlined, courteous experience than this one. read more

We made a reservation and were pleasantly surprised by heart confetti on the table - such a thoughtful touch! The restaurant is very upscale looking and is perfect for special occasions. We had the privilege of having Lanson as a server who gave us recommendations and efficiently made sure our meal was exactly how we wanted it. The complimentary bread service was yummy and we enjoyed the wedge salad and calamari. Our steaks were flavorful and expertly cooked. The truffle fries and asparagus were nice shareable sides. For dessert the chocolate cake was a win. So decadent and perfect with the cream and fresh raspberries. Bar is upon the entrance and was crowded when we arrived at 6:30pm. Hostess was engaging and brought black napkins for those of us wearing black, great touch! We were a party of 5 sitting in a half round booth and 2 chairs. Our table was in the middle of the restaurant. Great atmosphere! Our waiter, Kurt, was wonderful! From start to finish, our experience at The Capital Grille was fantastic. The complimentary valet attendant set the tone--friendly, professional, and even opened the door for us as we entered. Once inside, the restaurant was busy and seating was backed up a bit; we arrived 10 minutes early and still waited an additional 20 minutes. However, it wasn't too bad, and we were seated in a private corner booth that was perfect for date night. Our server, Brad, was exceptional--warm, personable, and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. His recommendations were spot on. We started with cocktails (the Blackberry Bourbon Sidecar and a mocktail version), which were both excellent. The pan-fried calamari with hot cherry peppers was a highlight--crispy, perfectly seasoned, and absolutely delicious. For sides, we tried the parmesan truffle fries (amazing) and the soy-glazed Brussels sprouts with bacon, which were flavorful but a bit on the tougher side. For mains, the 10oz filet mignon (cooked perfectly medium) with three pan-seared shrimp was melt-in-your-mouth good, and the 14oz dry-aged NY strip was one of the best steaks I've had in years--seared, seasoned, and cooked to perfection. Brad's service alone would have made us want to come back, but paired with food this good, The Capital Grille is a definite return spot for us. The only minor downsides were the cramped waiting area and the fact that the dress code doesn't seem to be enforced (several guests in shorts, sandals, and t-shirts). Our reservation was set for 9:15 PM, and Capital Grille closes at 10 PM. We thought we'd be rushed to eat and that coming in that late would ruin the experience. What we actually experienced defied all expectations. Our waiter, Max, was extremely thorough and attentive. The other waiting staff made sure our drinks were always full and even the supervisors checked in on our experience. At one point, my bf's Dad was joking about how he was making his own lemonade (he likes to squeeze lemon into his water). Well, the lady filling our drinks must have told our waiter because they started sending out complimentary lemonade for him! Which, by the way, was delicious and I recommend you get it. Max even gave him some lemonade to take home. We were also given samples of their signature Doli drink (pineapple vodka). It was tasty, and although we didn't order the full drink, it was nice we got to try it! It was smooth, light, and got us in a great mood. While we were eating the dessert, we joked about how upset his wife would be that we went out without her to celebrate. Then we began with lobster bisque, which actually had large pieces of lobster in it, which was a delightful surprise! I then enjoyed the scallop and lobster risotto, which was delicious. It was light on the lobster as I found only one piece, but it was still amazing. My husband had the Seabass, which I believe I will order next time as it was prepared perfectly. The restaurant was warm and inviting and everyone who helped us was kind and professional. Finally, we were treated to a beautiful dessert plate with amazing espresso, flourless, chocolate cake, and a cheesecake with a crème brûlée topping. The evening was nothing less than perfect. Celebrated our 13th Wedding Anniversary at The Capital Grille. Our first experience was top notch. All the staff we encountered were very welcoming and wore warm smiles. I was given complementary red roses while we waited on our cocktails ,Black Tie Margaritas . The food was very flavorful. Our server Jeremy was polite, informative and very attentive. Enjoyed celebrating son's birthday here. The ambiance was perfect. The service from Max was incredible as was the food .. they gave the birthday boy cheesecake and flutes with champagne for the table my new go to steakhouse. Was fully booked on a Thursday evening.. had to take a 4:00 reservation. It turned out even better having an early dinner. We were not rushed at all.. we even had to ask for the bill.. definitely recommend this restaurant read more

Well. I took a few days to really consider this review. It was an anniversary meal and wanted to be exact about my experience. First and foremost. Capital Grille has very good service. It's what you would expect from the "higher end" dining experience's. Had a reservation. Beautiful setting. Bread basket was very nice and tasty. Ordered the caviar appetizer and two drinks. Drinks were meh. The appetizer was neat. Didn't really blow me away. Ordered a steak and a gratin potatoes. The steak was ordered medium rare. There was a little bit of pause between steak and appetizer. We found ourselves looking at our phones. The steak was not medium rare and seemed over cooked. I didn't mention it because I was unaware of dry aged steaks had a tendency to be dry. My spouse's steak was very good. The au gratin were not memorable. The meal just fell flat for me. I wanted to love Capital Grille but I didn't and thus why I took so long to write this. Meal was $260 before tip. read more

We had high hopes when capital opened a location in San Antonio Antonio. The appetizers and sides were pretty good, the service was very so so, we sat at the table for over five minutes before anyone showed up, generally just not great service. I ordered the bone in dry aged New York strip cooked, medium rare. It came out, medium well and was extremely grainy, did not taste dry aged and did not taste like it was prime. At $63. It was a big disappointment. We spent about $100 a person without drinks. overall, it wasn't terrible but also wasn't great, probably won't be back.
