The very best thing about both Chimney Rock restaurants is their Gluten Free offerings. In fact, I wish that were a survey option on Yelp. Wow - this is my 5th review for this particular Chimney Rock. That may be a new individual record. I kind of have a love-hate relationship with Chimney Rock. When they're on, I love them for the type of food they serve. When they're off, I hate that I went here. Does that make sense? It's a very casual, kid friendly restaurant located on Valley Rd between Stirling and Berkeley Heights. I've never been here when both the restaurant and parking lot aren't incredibly packed. My biggest negative gripe with Chimney Rock is that it can be incredibly inconsistent - everything from the portion size, the service and even the ingredients they put in a dish. The last few times I've been here have been much improved, though (in all respects). Typically, we have to wait for a table so you can always grab a drink at the bar. Unfortunately, there isn't a ton of space at the bar so if you can't grab a stool, you'll have to stand behind the bar patrons sitting down. They have a very good tap selection. I don't know for sure, but I'd say they have pretty close to 20 beers on tap, if not more. Food is pretty decent but you have to order the right stuff. For apps, I like the French Onion soup, the nachos and the mozzarella sticks. I happen to think the nachos are very good. They're very messy but in a good way. I'm not a fan of the buffalo wings - they're on the incredibly small side and they're never that spicy. I'd stay away from those. I typically get a salad or some pizza when I come here. I'm not a fan of the wraps - they are incredibly small. Burgers are just OK, too. Salads are usually pretty good - I'm a fan of the Rock Chop Salad. It usually has a ton of fresh ingredients and I like it with their house vinaigrette dressing. It's very good. I also like the pizza here. It's not for everyone as it's an incredibly thin crust. It seems that most people either love it or hate it. I could probably eat an entire pizza by myself as the crust is so thin. I like the Buffalo Chicken pizza and their meatball pizza. They actually do the Buffalo Chicken pizza with a red sauce which doesn't sound like it would be very good but it actually works well. Service can be hit or miss because it's mostly high school/college aged kids running the show but it's usually pretty good. Prices are very good - almost on the cheap side and even the drinks are very reasonably priced. read more

We dropped in for dinner on a weekend. I had the french onion soup and eggplant Parmesan. My fiance had a brisket sandwich. We both enjoyed the food. I did not give this restaurant a better score, because the service was terrible. Our soda was never refilled and we were ignored most of the evening. This place was OK, but teetering on WTF. I know it's a decent place to take the kids when you don't want to cook, but there are other places that are kickin' it up a notch with better food choices for both adults and kids now. The minute you walk in you get that old musty beer smell and the floors and tables have seen better days. The service is good as the waiters are very attentive. The food is average. I read all of the review on the thin crust pizza so we ordered two pies. I found the sauce to be bland and the crust a bit too much like a cracker. We also tried the ribs which I thought were pretty good. This is not a place I would put at the top of my list to return to. If I ever get in the mood for barbecue I would consider pick up from this place. read more

Went with the family. I ordered white clam pizza which was awful. Tasteless crust with clam less topping. My husband had the tacos which were lukewarm. My daughter enjoyed her chicken pot pie. My mother in law liked the lasagna. My father in law had a cheese steak that was just ok. I see no reason to return. read more

I love this place! Pizza is the best thin-crust around. Something on the menu for everyone. Lots of gluten free options. We come here often, but yesterday we had a party for 50 people in their Center Room. Family-style serving with pizza, salad, chicken, pasta, green beans, and cake for dessert. Everything was terrific! Chicken was moist and delicious, green beans were yummy, and of course the pizza is always outstanding. Servers were attentive and accommodating. Bar is very good and friendly service from all of the staff. Looks like a good place to work also as there are a lot of mature high school/college aged kids working there - all with excellent customer service skills. Video games for kids are a plus. We have been to the Chimney Rock Inn on Chimney Rock Road and loved it. Went to the Gillette NJ location last night with some new friends, expecting the same quality in both food and service. There were 4 of us who went last night, 2 of us were happy and 2 had something to say. First the good. My partner had a terrific burger on a gluten free roll and our one friend had salmon on a plank. Both loved what they got. Our other friend (whose father was a butcher) ordered an advertised "whole" rack of ribs but in reality, it is only a 7 bone 1/2 rack. I ordered the eggplant parm with a side of well done fries instead of pasta. I know this is not the servers problem since they use runners to bring out the food. The fries came out looking like they suffered from anemia. Bone white. We eventually got the waitress to bring them back but it took nearly 20 minutes to bring out what should have been 4 minutes in the frier. I find that restaurants that use their order takers to bring the food out genuinely take more responsibility to make sure the food comes out as ordered. Runners are pretty much unaware of any special requests. I might go back to see if things change. They were pretty busy. Overall, eggplant parm was decent, though it really should not have been drowned in sauce and cheese. I like to see what I am eating! Enjoy. read more

Stop wasting your time going to overpriced, unfriendly and just plain boring restaurants/bars. Their thin crust pizza is excellent, wings are good as well. After numerous visits here, one thing stands out and that's the high quality staff. Your not just a number...your treated like family. This time, we decided to enjoy pizza and wings at the bar. Bartenders Jonathan and Kimberly work extremely well together. The bar was 2-3 deep through out the evening but their service made it seem less and smooth. Regulars were called by their name, with their favorite drinks awaiting them. The pizza was excellent and coming from central my, we know wings....and they were good. The beer was served in frosted glasses, which is extremely appreciated. But....watching Jonathan and Kimberly work together.....it was like a sympathy in motion. I went to the Chimney Rock Inn today for lunch. My first impression as I walked in was that the restaurant seemed very dark. It was quiet with only a few other people there. The waitress was nice and the service was quick. As for the food, it was okay. I started with their French onion soup. The gruyère could have been melted more on top and the broth was a little brand. Other than that I enjoyed it. I also had their mayan chipotle chicken sandwich. It had a lot of flavor and the ingredients were satisfying. I was accompanied by my mom and sister. My mom had the Rock chop salad. She thought it was good although the chicken was tough. My sister had buffalo wings which were very good. Overall, I think I would return but it is expensive for what we're getting. read more

Been a frequent visitor for over 10 years and have seen a significant drop off in food and service over the last year. Tonite I visited with wife, daughter and two grandsons. Meals took over 30 minutes to be delivered and half was delivered 10 minutes later. In addition, I took grandsons to play arcade games and gave waitress a $20 bill for 20 singles. She came back with 10 singles and when I told her she said I gave her a ten. When I told her I only had twenties in my wallet and couldn't get change from the change machine because it only accepted $1, $5 & $10 bills she became defensive and said I was wrong. My wife and daughter all saw me give her a $20 so there was no confusion. Patrons beware. They just lost a very good customer. read more

I was definitely not impressed. I had the soup of the day to start, chicken vegetable. It was mostly bell peppers and torn up pieces of spaghetti (I'm guessing leftover?). I ordered a side of frizzled onions, they were decent and crispy. For my lunch I had an open sliced steak sandwich. I really think it needs a different name because it wasn't at all what I expected. It was three small slices of a baguette like bread (basically a soggy crostini) covered in three times the meat. The steak wasn't "sliced" just thrown all over the plate. The steak wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't so greasy. The fries were basically a throw away, cold and greasy. The pizza isn't bad, but in my opinion it's not worth the trip. We were greeted politely as we walked in, but our waitress definitely could have been more friendly. We interacted with her maybe three times, she didn't say much and we didn't see much of her. read more

I like this place! It's one of the first places we tried when we moved into the area. Cute, cozy, local spot even though the building is huge. There's some video games and entertainment for the kids on the side. It gets very crowded on the weekends and take out needs work on the weekends as well. It's slow. But if you go here with those expectations, then it's a nice experience. The food is good. The selection is vast and will please everyone in your crowd. The thin crust pizza truly is amazing.
