We occasionally dine here often and frequent the Cloverdale area for business on a regular basis. We arrived at 8:20 PM full well knowing that the restaurant closes at 9:00 PM but usually being seated before nine is adequate in most establishments. This is a Saturday night and we took our son and daughter-in-law out whom have not ate there before; We had other choices but wanted them to try vintage year. I open the door and the rest of the party went ahead of me and as I am trailing in I hear a young hostess tell my son and daughter in law "We close at nine so you may wanna go ahead and put your order in now". That was not the greeting I would have come to expect. Normally I would oppose such a rude greeting but in the effort of keeping it peaceful with my family I did not. It totally ruined the experience for us the service was otherwise good food was good but that is not who you want at the front door to greet at a ultra establishment as is portrayed by vintage year. I will leave you with this thought during COVID-19 customer service should be at a premium when in fact most places, labor shortage, notwithstanding it is at an all time low. This was evidenced last night by our less than stellar experience if management reads us I would discuss such matters with my hostess and greeting staff you want to be warm and welcoming not cold and disinviting. read more

One of the best dining experiences ever!! Where do I start? Ahh, yes, at the beginning. Let's just say the food, the service, the company, and the fellowship were outstanding. My wife and I are in town for the Family Life Weekend to Remember marriage retreat and tonight was our "date night." After initially trying to go to Central restaurant--we didn't have a reservation and they didn't take walk-ins--we decided to try Vintage Year. What a blessing. Without a doubt, God set that up. He closed the door at Central and opened the one at Vintage. Service: Our server Jennifer was the bomb! Fast as lightning, very attentive, very accommodating, very personable, knew the menu in and out, attended to our every need, described the dishes so descriptively, and even gave us some history about the restaurant. She's a great marketer. But what she was selling, the chefs and the kitchen staff backed it up. I should also give a shoutout to the team who was supporting her, because she didn't do it alone. I think there were 4 other people who bought items to the table whether it was bread, an appetizer or entree. Everyone, including the host, were very personable, professional, attentive and accommodating. Food: Everything, and I mean everything, was sumptuous. The seafood gratin with shrimp, crab, scallops and crawfish was good, but could have benefited from a little more salt. It came with toasted baguettes that were a little too toasted for my taste. Almost like cajun style. The filet with roasted sweet potatoes and crispy, fried onion strings were so tasty. The short ribs with scalloped potatoes and red cabbage--oh my goodness--was mmm, mmm, mmm. The short ribs were so tender and well-seasoned. They would've been falling off the bone had there been one. The potatoes were creamy and seasoned. And the purple cabbage was a complete surprise. They were tender with a nice bite and a tasty sauce. We also got a side of Brussel sprouts and they were deelish. Packed with bacon fat and salt, they were crispy and tender and so, so good. For dessert we had the chocolate moon pie, which reminded me of a glorified s'more. With chocolate cake and graham cracker on top and bottom with a thick homemade marshmallow in the center, and covered in chocolate ganache. We were so full by then, we could only take a couple bites, but it was good too. Company: Lastly, the company was a true blessing. Seated next to us were Pat McGregor and her granddaughter, Mary Grace. They were so beautiful to talk to. I see great things in Mary Grace's future. She was very poised, a lady, outgoing, respectful, hospitable, true to her faith, and just loving on her grandmother, who recently lost her husband. Just an all around sweet person. It was an absolute pleasure talking to both of them. They offered us a taste of their desserts and let us listen to her recording artist sister Elizabeth Ann Matthews. We wandered in by accident when we found our first choice was closed on Sunday. VY is open for Sunday brunch and had a greatly varied array of offerings. I had the salad with a poached egg and my friend had the crab cakes with poached eggs and hollandaise--both were excellent. Interesting cocktails including local specials. Lots of coffee and biscuits and we were able to sit and chat without being rushed out. Our waiter was solicitous without hovering and helped us with local info--we are tourists. This was our first time dining at Vintage Year and they did not disappoint. As an appetizer, we had Pork Belly and Peaches which was delicious. My husband ordered the Gulf Snapper that was served in a broth. I tasted his Snapper and thought it was so good. However, he didn't think it was very flavorful. I ordered the Tempura Fried Airline Chicken, served with asparagus and arugula- yum!!! Ruthie was our server and she was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Totally disappointed after eating at The Vintage Year on Dec 1, 2023. We were looking forward to a good dining experience with family. The quality of our meal was subpar. My husband ordered the filet mignon and was served the tail - overcooked and dry. The Crispy smashed red potatoes were dry and tasteless. I had the Gulf Red Snapper which was overcooked and dry. The kale had huge tough, bitter stems. We saw the bartender taste a drink - very unprofessional. Very disappointed in this meal and experience. read more

I will start with there is not much of a selection in Montgomery, AL. That will give you some context for the high ratings. Drinks: if you like a stiff drink this is your place. They do not skimp. And the bartenders are skilled. Dinner Menu: Lacking flavor. They have come up with some menu worthy items but have failed to nail them. The prices and combinations scream a Chef is running the kitchen. The taste screams, we hired a chef to set up the menu and teach a few people to cook. Brunch: Also lacking flavor. Service also tends to be a bit rude during the brunch days. Note that brunch is almost non-existent in Montgomery so regardless of the taste people will flock here just to have something to do. Desserts: I can only say try at your own luck. Tuesday Burger Nights are actually good. The burgers are fresh and have flavor. A good burger and a good drink are always a great way to start the week. Wagu Sirloin is incredibly tough to be called wagu. Obviously management tried this dish? The brussel sprouts are a rip off & look like field peas. Not a hearty presentation at all. More like a soup kitchen would prepare. Seems like it took a decade to have drinks refreshened. Or perhaps I was being punished for returning the rare filet that should have been prepared medium. We could just blame everything on the kitchen but then shouldn't at least good waitstaff send the obvious back for you. Also it is pretty cheap not to offer table bread at no charge. 26 January 2019 I wife and I and two of our friends were in the area and decided to give this place a try we were not disappointed. We had an early reservation. Who agreed upon entry and quickly showed our table our server was very knowledgeable about the menu. The wait staff was also very prompt. We started with the cheeseboard to share. For the second course each person had a salad. The salads were fresh and served on a chilled plate, for the entrées two people order the fillet which they said was cooked to perfection medium rare, I ordered the scallops they were very good served over a bed of black risotto, and the last entrée was a whole head on Mediterranean sea bass which I was told was excellent! We finished all of our meals with shared desserts which were very good as well. the location might make you think something else about this establishment but don't let the exterior fool you. Next time we are in the Montgomery area we are definitely going back. read more

I had a nice dinner here. The menu is not too complicated or fussy, and the service is attentive. I enjoyed scotch eggs, a burger, and a massive salad. The only reason I hesitate to say "five stars" is that prices are higher, and everything I had (while delicious) was pretty straightforward. Nothing surprised me. If you want a very good meal, with good service in a nice (yet not quite formal) setting, Vintage Year is an excellent choice. As a party of two we had an incredible experience here. Great service, incredible food, nice atmosphere. The compound butter served with the warm basket of bread pre-dinner was exceptionally tasty. I had the special 24oz bone-in ribeye that was cooked to a perfect rare+. My date loved the Airline Chicken that was beautifully plated. We shared and loved the bread pudding for dessert. Our server was on point and very menu-knowledgeable. A corkage fee of $15 let me bring my favorite wine from the shop next door. The main dining room acoustics seem to amplify conversation so the room is a little louder than you would expect but we enjoyed the energy of the place. This is a top notch establishment in the Gump. I have a weekly date night with my wife and last night we chose Vintage Year, which is not far from our home. Unfortunately, we found it to be yet another Montgomery restaurant that falls far short of what it could be. Montgomery has any number of quite good mid-range eating establishments, but every now and then you want to go someplace special. But since the closure of a prominent seafood restaurant in Cloverdale, there don't seem to be any high-end restaurants in Montgomery with consistently excellent and attentive service and consistently good food. I'm disappointed to say that if you live here and want great high-end dining, you need to go to Birmingham, Atlanta, or Baldwin County. It's a shame too, because with a few adjustments, Vintage Year could really deliver a top experience. Our experience at Vintage Year yesterday evening: The cocktails were excellent. Nothing to improve on here. The wine list is better than anything I have seen in Montgomery, with a wide range of selections that can meet most budgets. Since we had ordered cocktails, we opted not to purchase a bottle of wine, but instead we each a glass of the excellent Willamette Valley Pinot Noir on offer. We had oysters on the half shell for an appetizer. I am not sure where the oysters were sourced. They tasted very good, but about half of mine were gritty. For the price they charge for oysters, this was not acceptable preparation. I had the Fried Green Tomato salad. This was quite good. For an entree, I had the Blackened Pork Coppa Steak. It was tasty and juicy, but also quite tough and difficult to cut. It was quite a bit tougher than a steak would be, though the waiter described it as melt in your mouth. My wife had an off-menu pork loin, which was over-cooked and dry. When I say dry, I mean dry that absorbs all the saliva out of one's mouth and develops a mouth feel like cardboard. She couldn't finish it, nor could I finish a small portion that she gave me. Our waiter was friendly and happy to answer our questions with detailed descriptions of the items on the menu. But the service in this restaurant was not equivalent to other restaurants where the waitstaff is constantly keeping an eye on their assigned tables without being obtrusive, or where an empty water glass is immediately filled by a busperson who appears out of nowhere. We were not ignored, but we also were not always attended to with promptness. The dishes are creative. A little more rigorous training for the waitstaff, a little more attention in the kitchen to the mechanics of food preparation, a little more care in cooking dishes to the right doneness, and this could be an outstanding restaurant. As it is now, though, it is a diappointment. read more
