Had dinner here last week and thought everything was fantastic. Our waitress Bri was EXCELLENT and projected her beautiful voice sooo clearly passed her mask and the din of the restaurant. I was impressed from the get go by her fantastic service. The food was also DELICIOUS. I had the orichette with scallops, corn and brocolini. I never pass up pasta. My BF had the Wagyu with a hastleback potato. Both were fantastic. But the best thing on the menu was definitely the desserts. We had the creme brûlée with fresh berries and the strawberry (olive oil loaf) shortcake. I have never had a better creme brûlée in my life, believe me I've tried. And the olive oil cake didn't have the usual dense and grainy texture that I usually expect to get with such a heavy dessert. Huge bonus! Both of our desserts were gluten free. read more

My husband and I have lived in the area for over 15 years and when we first moved here, we went to Vintage Year quite regularly. If it had been up to my husband, we would have eaten there every Friday night. The "pandemic" happened, they closed for a while, then opened up for "take out" only. The food was still delicious so when things got back to normal, we still ordered "take out" from time to time. A few weeks ago, we decided to make a reservation. Our reservation was for 7:45 PM on a Friday night. The first indication that it would go down hill from there was when we showed up and the Hostess informed us that our table was not available, YET. The previous guests were still occupying it. She told us we could either wait in the lobby area or we could sit at the small table in the bar area. We chose to sit at the table in the bar area and it WAS small. We sat down at 7:45, waited for our waiter to order drinks, ordered them and after they sat on the bar for over 5 minutes when my husband got up and retrieved them. We sat there with our drinks, waiting for a menu when my husband looked at his watch and said , "We have been here almost 45 minutes and we still don't have a menu". (We were just being ignored I suppose because we were in the bar area). It was then that I said, "let's just pay for our drinks and leave please". Of course we didn't. My husband's food was fine considering it was two crab cakes the size of marbles on a plate larger than the surface of our table and I ordered the Fra Diavolo. The description of my dish was: gulf white fish, scallops, shrimp, fresh linguine, cherry tomatoes, etc. What I actually received was risotto with strips of carrots, that was it. Not a shrimp or a scallop or even a "chunk" of fish in sight. During our meal the manager (I think) came by to ask "how was everything?" I started to tell him but I did not want to rile my husband. I had managed to calm him down and get him to agree to "let's just forget it and we won't go back". And we won't. read more

We were greeted by what looked to be the manager. He got our drink order. Our server did not come to our table until we already had our drinks. She was very nice and knowledgeable about the food, but seemed a bit flustered. The food was very good, but the portions were small. We had a dozen oysters. I ordered the quail, him the scallops. We ate here soon after their renovation with a party of 8. Interior is chic-minimalist and a mix of modern and vintage, with some brick wall exposed. We were seated on a raised floor to the right as you come in behind the hostess station. The staff seemed to have things pretty well together for a place that just re-opened. A nice environment. Half the table ordered various martini concoctions to start with, and the other half glasses of wine. Everyone that had a martini thought they were well made. We ordered bottles of wines for the meal and they were price similarly to other restaurants of this type in town. Mid-level Italian Chianti Classico was $48, for example. My wife and I shared a seared scallop appetizer which was very good but too small to share. A better choice would have been a salad with the scallops added to it. She had a pork chop with a bourbon glaze that was very good. I had the 8oz tenderloin which was good. We both asked for then to be cooked medium, and they came out just as we like them. We find in other locations, the cooking tends to overdo what we consider med-rare or medium. Everyone else seemed to be happy with their food as well. The service we received from our main waitress and the others that happened to check on us was good throughout our almost 3 hour stay. That said, we were seated next to another table that was so loud, we could not talk to anyone that was not sitting directly next to us. I told this to our waitress on 2 separate occasions, and she did nothing about it. Members of our party knew some people at that table and thought that perhaps the staff did not want to upset what they considered important patrons. The other item that I was not thrilled about was when the bill came. Since we were a party of 8, the tip was already added. I've never been a fan of this as I feel it should always be on merit, but if it's now the industry standard so be it. What should not happen though is for the tip to be added after the tax. I do not tip tax, nor should anyone else. Also, while tipping methods and standards are quite subjective and regional, even within the US/CAN, our tips only ever cover the cost of the food and individual drinks, not bottles of wine/liquor. If there is a sommelier serving you, that is different situation and you would tip according to how well he/she served you. It makes no sense to me to tip 15-20% for a waiter to bring me a bottle from the bar or wine rack. All they do is cork it for you. Consider if you are ordering a bottle that is $100-200 or more. Remember that without a sommelier, it is up to the customer to decide if the wine is OK, and suitable for what they ordered/want, that's what that initial pour is for that no one really knows what to do with. So what are you paying the waiter for at the end of the day? You're obviously free to tip your server(s) whatever you want, including more if you feel they went out of their way to get you the right table, food recommendations, made sure the order was correct, and yes if they help you with your wine order/pairing. Adding an automatic 20% tip, which included the wine bottle, and after the tax brings me to a 3-star for a place that could be in the 4-5 range. I concede that all may not agree with our tip philosophy, while at the same time it's not really fair to judge a restaurant on only one visit. We'll be back for the good food and location, but likely wine only by the glass. read more

I'll get this out of the way- Wife and I don't think you will find a better dining experience in the Montgomery area. OK- I've been a religious Filet and Vine customer for the almost 2 years i've been in town, and was very excited about them reopening Vintage Year under their ownership. My Wife and I finally made the time to get in for dinner. For the first time that I can remember, literally every single thing on the menu sounded awesome to me. I had such a difficult time deciding. Our server (Michael, i think? Sorry!), was very helpful, and fun to talk with. He was knowledgable about all the dishes, assisted on our wine selections, and was overall just great for the evening. We finally settled on the duck confit spring rolls as an appetizer, and they were simply amazing. I mean, spring rolls are always a good idea, but these were out of this world. The red plum sauce they came with was a perfect compliment. As a main course, I got the blackened redfish with crawfish etouffe, and my wife got a combination of appetizers- the seared scallops and the shrimp and grits (two of her favorite things). Most places I've gotten blackened fish before, the fish was dried out, or the seasoning overpowered it. Not here. Fish was perfect, taste was just awesome. The etouffee was outstanding; had a little bit of heat to it. The scallops were delicious, cooked perfectly, and plated beautifully. The shrimp and grits looked almost too good to touch, but we had to! They were so good. I love me some shrimp, and these blew me away. My wife is a grits junkie, and she was extremely pleased. For dessert we got the strawberry shortcake, because why not? I was only able to pick at it, because I was already full to the gills, but my wife loved it. In summary; the food was great, the wine was great, service was great from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. Everything was clean and prompt. Atmosphere was quiet and relaxed. Mostly older crowd. If I could change anything, I'd really like to see a better beer selection. As it is, it's mostly the really average local beers, none of the exciting local choices honestly. Wine selection was fantastic, which is why I wound up going with wine. We plan on becoming regulars. read more

I took my grandmother here for her a birthday brunch & I must admit I was impressed. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very calm & relaxing. The food was amazing. We order the chicken & waffles with mimosas. The chicken was seasoned & fried perfectly. The waffles weren't extremely sweet so it complimented the chicken. Split a bottle of cab that was marked up a tad high in my opinion, but I get it.... they need to make money off it. Between the two entrees, app, and wine, we were out the door about $100. If you want a nice meal and a nice atmosphere with an excellent fine dining experience, the vintage year is the nicest, top of the line restaurant in Montgomery. They change up their menu often to keep up with the vegetables in different foods that are in season but the ribeye is a staple and I must try. My husband and I chose to eat here tonight for our anniversary and we were both so glad we did. Our server was Bella and she was fantastic as well as the other wait staff that were coming through. This place is top notch in food and customer service. We started with the Heirloom tomato appetizer and it was absolutely delicious. It left me wishing there was more. My husband had the pork Wellington (I may not be calling it by the correct name) and I had the filet. Both dishes were tasty and cooked to perfection. Lastly we enjoyed a desert. Wow! It has been pretty rare that I have found a restaurant (that wasn't well known outside of the state) where I would definitely go back to, but Vintage Year blew our minds. We started with the cooked oysters, and I normally do not like cooked oysters, but these were great to the extent I had 2. For dinner, I had their surf and turf (salmon and rib cap). The salmon had been lightly cooked so that it had a great texture. The rib cap was seasoned so well that I kept cutting my steak into smaller pieces so that it would last. My wife and I recently ate here for the first time, though we've been meaning to come for years. You know how it goes. I had the local catch, and she had a hamburger (it was hamburger night).
