The only reason Vinyl Taco gets this many stars from me is one thing: the margaritas. They are truly the best I've ever had, the star of the menu! They're so fresh and delicious and perfectly mixed. The fresh sprig of rosemary adds the perfect touch and flavor. I came to Vinyl Taco with my brother and my husband. They have nothing vegan, so my brother couldn't eat, but he loved the margaritas. So did my husband. I tried the vegetarian taco, thinking it sounded so amazing. Nope. Packaged tortilla you can find at walmart (my tip: make them home made, it will put them over the top) and mediocre toppings that were so "juicy" that it got all over everything despite my best efforts. Way too many napkins had to be used for a food that is supposed to be portable. Not worth it. Also ridiculously spicy at random bites. For a place with "taco" in the name they just didn't do it well. It was a Saturday evening and of course the place was packed. And so loud that we couldn't hear ourselves yelling to each other right in each other's faces. My ears were ringing long after we left. I felt very bad for the staff - they were clearly understaffed and the poor bartenders and waitresses were flying around the over-packed room. (And dealing with some very obnoxious people.) Which resulted in us getting mostly ignored - bad service. But we totally understood, it's not the staff's fault. They needed at least one or two more people helping out. Honestly, for tacos and atmosphere this place is ridiculously overrated. But for margaritas? Go there for the margaritas. Best I've ever had. So incredible. Should re-name the place Vinyl Margarita or something - play up what you do best! read more

Food was great and drinks were good. Bartender was very rude. I went up to order drinks for the table and once I was finished she asked me who they were for. Once I pointed to my table she told me that my waitress "should take care of you." Coming from someone who is in customer service...the tone was very hostile and she didn't try to accommodate my concern. There could have been many ways to have gone about this and I understand that waitress gets paid based on our tips but the rudeness was completely unnecessary and unacceptable. I will never come back to this establishment. Being a Fargo local, I get very excited to support local businesses however these type of employees are the ones who drive businesses away. This place definitely does not deserve as many stars as it has been given. One word for the food, dry. The steak fajitas though the flavor was decent, the meat was over cooked. The pork belly was dry even with the sauce that came with it. Honestly, the tacos seemed to be made by some amateur cook. A flour tortilla that wasn't warm and was store bought. And when I ordered the enchiladas, i should have known that it wasn't going to be good when he said they were pre-rolled. I just wanted a cheese enchilada but they aren't available because all of them are pre rolled. And it's enchiladas but there wasn't even enough sauce to cover the enchiladas. The rice that came with it tasted like it was boxed. The margarita, forget about it. The sour mix was horrible and I regret ordering the 16 oz. Not the best tacos I've ever had, but I did like the crispy fish taco (they are called Baja tacos in Cali). The shrimp looked good even though I didn't try them & the barbacoa tacos were good, but not great & I will try a few others in my next visit for sure. I like this joint. It's got a great vibe to it and the food is great. The servers are friendly without attitudes. As their name states, Vinyl Taco spins albums of classic rock bands. The night I went they were playing Queen. I thought it might just be a CD or hard drive with recorded 'pops' until they tried playing Led Zeppelin. No luck - it skipped. And back to Queen it went. Maybe they only have two albums?!? As my bartender told me, their tacos are small but 'heavy'. I ordered the Carne Arsada taco first and then the Chicken Tinga. Both tacos were heavily spiced with bountiful flavors in the mouth. Think quality over quantity. Much better than the average taco joint. I also tried their rice and beans. Stopped in for some lunch and so glad we did! We had the fried tortilla bites. They came with two sauces one was a orange chili sauce and the other a cream sauce. Both were awesome! Vinyl Taco continues to impress. Their chips (served warm and salty!) and guac are the perfect starter to enjoy with a margarita or beer. I've only tried a couple tacos, but have yet to be disappointed. They may not look very big for their price, especially in comparison to your typical Mexican restaurant, but are big on taste and variety. This last visit was to try a new addition to their menu, the molcajete. This is a dish my family discovered a few years ago on a trip to Mexico, so I was excited to see it adopted by a local joint. Thankfully, they're doing it justice at VT. Think fajitas, yet the veggies and meat (chicken or shrimp) are served in a hot (mildly spicy) broth with rice and cheese. It's served with corn tortillas and chips to soak up all the seasoned goodness. 6/28/2018 Visit: For lunch I ordered a barbacoa taco, a gringo taco (ground beef), and a side of beans and Mexican rice (under $12.00 without tip or drink). All of the food was good, but nothing was outstanding. There was a hint of heat to the beans that I really liked and the rice was really soft and fluffy, but for the most part I thought everything trended towards being maybe a bit too conservative in the seasoning. The customer service is ABHORRED!!!! I popped in just before opening, because there were two other tables already seated and receiving service. When I walked in no one seemed like they wanted to help or seat me. I waited a few minutes while the staff finished prepping for opening and then approached a bar tender to ask if they were opened and she responded "in 4 minutes". I said okay, even though they were clearly waiting on other patrons, and said that I wanted to place a to go order when they opened. There were probably 4 or 5 staff member standing there when I said this. After 10 minutes of standing there waiting while the staff talked and ignored me, I left. The atmosphere looked cool and the menu seemed intriguing, but I unfortunately did not get to try it. Maybe other people have had a better experience, but there are far too many great places to eat in Fargo to waste your time on a restaurant that does not get customer service. (I know it's Cinco Di Mayo, but there were literally 4 customers, including myself, and what I saw was at least 10 staff in the 15-20 minutes I was there) read more

I must admit that I was not quite sure what I was getting myself into when my romantical adventure mate decided on Mexican food in Fargo but I was pleasantly surprised though some readers may be confused with my star rating and the details of this review because they don't quite line up. * Chips and salsa - overall, was not a fan. Both salsas tasted a bit like water. Will avoid next time. * Gringo taco - overall, the tortilla and beef were a little dry. I really could have used some salsa here but, alas, see bullet point above. * Chicken tortilla soup - delicious. I could have consumed the entire vat. I wanted 7 more bowls. Will order a double helping next time. No alcohol this trip but I do see myself returning here and will partake in an adult beverage or two. I loved the atmosphere and the fact that we could sit at a table on the sidewalk and not have homeless people begging for food or money as would happen if Vinyl Taco was in Seattle. So, if that is not worth one star in itself, I don't know what is! Along with my double helping of chicken tortilla soup, I will also order the buffalo chicken taco and at least one other speciality taco. Or maybe the enchiladas. Will have to play that one by ear. For a North Dakota Mexican restaurant this place is pretty good. And for just a Mexican restaurant compared to all the vast array of Latin American cuisine out there in the good ol' US of A - this place is still pretty damn good. And that's coming from a native Texan. After digging into their fresh and abundant guacamole, I was ready to indulge in their staple soft taco dishes: the vegetarian, the fajita, and the chicken tinga. All With corn tortillas obviously. They were robust with a ton of layers of taste. The flavor profile of the chicken tinga was pretty spot on when it comes to pepper heat and use of queso blanco and the chicken marinade. I tried this place for the first time last night, and I wasn't disappointed (for the most part). The concept of the place is a classic rock-and-roll vibe, with brick walls (including Pink Floyd's) and colorful pictures of classic rock legends throughout the bar. The waitress was very friendly, and helpful when it came to the menu. The menu consists of a couple appetizers, and about a dozen small tacos. I was fairly hungry, so I decided to try four of their tacos. I had the Carnitas, Carne Asada, Shrimp a la Parilla and BBQ Pork. Each one was excellent, and a wonderful representation of what can be done with a concept like this. They all varied in price from $3-4 each. The place wasn't very busy when I was there, so the head chef came out of the kitchen to chat with me for a bit; really nice guy! I was slightly disappointed with their beer-on-tap selection (five, two of which were Mexican), but they do have about 20-25 bottles to choose from. Considering JL Beers is right next door, I guess if I wanted a craft beer badly enough... I had a Dos Equis Amber with my meal, and I decided to give their mixed drink menu a try afterwards. I had a 101 Sour (Wild Turkey 101, lime juice, simple syrup and hibiscus tea) and an Algonquin (George Dickel Tennessee Whiskey, dry vermouth and pineapple juice). Both were excellent, especially the 101 Sour, but they put so much damn ice in the glass you're actually only getting about half of what you're paying for, so I'd steer clear of the mixed drinks and stick with the beer. While the employees there (waitress and chef) were great, the bartenders were just ok. Don't get me wrong; they knew how to make a mixed drink well enough, but when there are just six people in the entire restaurant, you're the only one of those six at the bar, there are two of them, and it takes one of them nearly 15 minutes to ask if I need anything else after I've finished my last drink... I know this place is still fairly new, but the bartenders might need to brush-up a little on their customer skills. Just sayin'! All-in-all, I really liked Vinyl Taco. It reminded me a lot of Yayo Taco in Las Vegas, and that place was amazing! Another feather in the cap for downtown Fargo! read more

Service was accommodating. Tried the pork belly taco with au jous sauce, nice and salty. Preferred that a bit over the chicken and mango taco but probably only because the mango didn't taste very ripe or sweet. I can't wait to try some of their other dishes. Vinyl Taco is a very fun place to meet for your friends for a cocktail and llight-fare food! The atmosphere is great with the brick walls, oversized wall hangings and albuma covers! I also apprecicate that they have two turn-tables throwing out the music that plays in the building. The booths seem a little small, but the table and bar add more seating. During my visit, I tried the Red WIne Sangria, which was very good. Especially if you like red wine, since it had a heavier wine overtone than I am used to. I had also tried the the On-Tap Margarita, these are fun! The medium is served with a 4-5oz glass and your own vessel about the size of a mini kietchup bottle. Vinyl Taco makes all of their own mararita batches and are then tapped. So the batches or kegs are not necessarliy the same taste. One could be more sweet than the previous. The bar staff are quick to try and remedy that though, if you have an issue. I also ordered the Chicken and Bacon taco. Although, the taco's are a smaller portion, they are very tasty! They run about $3.00-$4.00 and have about a dozen to choose from. Others with me had the fish taco or the pulled pork, and both really enjoyed them. We also shared an order of their guacamole that was really yummy! Very fresh and with a lime taste. The salsa's are great too! Best thing: Raspberry margarita Worst thing: very small portions I went there with a friend and got a shrimp taco, the rice and a raspberry margarita. The food was fresh, but be warned, the portions are small. It came to $18 altogether, which isn't too bad, but I wasn't really blown away. Not really impressed, probably won't be going back frequently. Maybe if I'm in the mood for a light snack I'll go back, definitely not going there if I have a big appetite, those $3.50 tacos would add up really quick. Is recommend going and trying the raspberry margarita though, it was very delicious. read more
