Violet Rooster is a great hidden gem for brunch in Chino Hills. I visited for the first time a couple weekends ago. We were able to add ourselves to the waitlist ahead of time as it was a 60 min wait on a Sunday morning. When we got there, we saw everyone crowded outside waiting to get seated and we were quickly brought to our table, as we were next on the list. The first thing you notice is how well-decorated this spot is. It's very vibrant and full of life inside the restaurant. We ordered 2 dishes - the Chorizo Benedict ($17.79) and the Chilaquiles ($16.79) along with a Bloody Mary ($9.99). Let me just say that these servings are monstrous. We ended up taking home more than half of each dish, which is fine but wow... HUGE portions. We enjoyed the Benedict a little bit more than the Chilaquiles. If you're hungry in the morning, this is a great place to try out! I'll definitely be back and will look to try their pancakes or omelettes next. Don't know what all the fuss is about. The food was suuuuuper greasy and the service was horrid. We waiting an hour and 30 mins to be sat which was fine, we knew the wait was long. Once we sat we waited 15 mins for someone to come greet us. 2 different servers walked by and made eye contact with us but didnt stop. After waving someone down for menus and water, we ordered and the food came out relatively quick. Wasn't anything impressive and was really greasy. Today we went to have a late breakfast. It was ok. I was surprised so many customers were there. The wait staff were very busy. Food was ok. It took 2 or 3 tries to get requests to the table like coffee and creamer and syrup. Boo! The place was really cute the eclectic vibe suits and so does the music. It felt like a beach cafe. First impression was of the amazing eclectic decoration! Love that the colors match the restaurant name. All the chairs and tables are painted differently and vibrantly and there are a ton of other decorations like a small hot air balloon! Service wasn't the best and we were literally sitting next to the area where the servers wait/walk around. They even would talk near or above us. But we still had to wave someone down so we could order and then to pay. Parking is plentiful. Be prepared for cow poop smell cause it is Chino. Prices are average but huge portions! The french toast was delicious and very sugary! Maple syrup was yummy! Hash browns were good but fell apart easily (at least it was crispy). It was a cute place but a tad too loud for me to have a good conversation with my friend (it's one of those places you have to yell at to hear each other over the music and other guests). Asked for soft scrambled, got hard fried chopped up scrambled. Bacon soggy&cold. Trying the french toast when male waiter asked if i was paying by cash or card. With food in my mouth, I waited a second and I said Card. He said he can take payment now. Um, I'm wasnt even finished. Trying to chew and dig through my purse for my card, he didnt seem to care. Never again come here. Not worth $63 for cold cheeseburger & fries plus lousy breakfast. And terrible customer service. I could have asked to replace the eggs and the bacon and the cold patty plus cold fries but I couldn't be wasteful. Just got a to go box and I'll feed to my dogs. read more

My friend and I decided to have breakfast for Christmas Eve at the Violet Rooster in Chino Hills, and we were very pleased with our decision. There is plenty of parking, and they have indoor and outdoor seating! The portions of the food is huge so for sure either share an entree or plan on taking some leftovers home! Service was slow due to being short staffed but they were very apologetic about it, and we understood things happen and appreciated the fact that they were trying!!! Service always seems to be an issue for us at Violet Rooster. We asked for things but never receive them, so we ended up asking several times. We had to ask the waiter several times for simple and expected items, such as water and napkins. Additionally, service is slow and it was difficult to get a waiter or waitress to service our table. It is a small restaurant and they are simply not busy enough to justify this level of service. Disappointingly, I also have clear view of them goofing off and dancing in the kitchen every single time because we are usually seated right next to the kitchen for some reason. Another disappointing detail was that when I tried to use my coupon, the waiter instantly told me," You can't use it... you didn't spend enough." When I looked at my bill, we were literally cents away from being able to use the coupon, to which he could have easily suggest suggested ordering a tea or coffee or perhaps dessert. However, he never did this and seemed to have just wanted us out of his hair. I find this behavior to be somewhat rude and unappreciative of our patronage. Overall, the food and the ambience, in our opinion, is just average, making this a two-star review. read more

We went back for the second time but this time I took some pics. We ordered the Spanish Frittata and the carnitas Benedict. Both were very good. We did get seated inside but we ended up asking to move to the outdoor patio due to the loudness of the music and that we were by the door and every time the door opened I felt cold air blow too much on us. They have heaters outside but it actually felt nice so we didn't need them. It's not bad inside, we just wanted a little more quiet. After a 6-mile hike in Chino Hills, my husband and I were craving a hearty meal, and we were definitely not disappointed! Though the wait was around 30 minutes, it was absolutely worth it. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the charming, eclectic decor--unique tables, mismatched chairs, and quirky art pieces adorning the walls. My daughter and I frequent this establishment and food is always good. I didn't want to air my disappointment with today's service but this can't wait! We were seated outside, which was fine but when the server doesn't check on you the duration of your visit and you have to get up and get someone to refill your drinks and get a box and our check there's a problem. When the server finally comes to our table, he asks, "how was the food?!?" I replied, " eh, it was ok!' While he grabbed our plates he made a comment that I was going to ignore but then when he left my daughter looked at me and said, "did he say what I think he said?'. Then I said ok you heard that too? He said....." ...but you finished your food!". I always go there for coffee. It's the best coffee in town! I am a coffee conisuer so it's extremely important to me that the coffee be on point! Not to mention the service is exceptional well! Second visit for breakfast. The previous time it was called "Squeeze In". Not sure why the babe name change but the decor and menu seemed pretty similar, as did the food. I had: "Bomb Breakfast Burrito". Very fresh and tasty. Not too greasy. Sorry I keep forgetting to take photos for my reviews! Potatoes that came with it were delicious too as the last visit I felt they were over cooked. If I had one critique it would be the thimble of salsa they give you for a pretty big burrito. It was hardly enough for two bites, and I couldn't grab the server to get more before I wolfed the burrito down. My date, my beautiful daughter, (actuality took a photo this time) had the happy face pancake, and boy did give her a happy face. I tried it and the pancakes are great. The hostess was awesome too. Just flew in from Atlanta asked my friend to take me someplace to eat. She suggested we eat here. We waited a few minutes and were seated. We placed our order everything was going fine. Food tasted fine Nothing over the top, but it was good. The Bill was presented, I questioned If I could ask a stupid question. Why is there was a price difference between the menu price and my bill change. The server stated because the price of eggs and I question him again Why wasn't I told that in the first. Secondly, pointed out to him. I only had two eggs on my plate not 4 eggs in an omelette . All I did was ask a legitimate question I pointed out to him that the difference in price was not mentioned to us when ordering. I Immediately got attitude from him, which caused me to respond that I would just make up for it in my tip. He came back with attitude in a loud voice I don't need your freaking tip Mumbling something else afterwards. My friend and I just looked at each other, paid the bill and walked out .leaving no tip at this point. Upon walking out the gentleman who took our name when we came in . I questioned him and made him aware about the situation. After hearing me out, he wanted to try and correct it and our disappointment eating here. I told him the experience was already done ruining ever coming back. I don't take attitude from people Especially over two dollars!! Our experience here was disappointing overall, but I'll start with the positives. It was nice to be able to check in advance, and we only had a 10-minute wait--especially impressive for a Sunday morning. The hostess was friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, the rest of our experience didn't match that good first impression. The food felt like it came straight off the grill--unseasoned and unsauced. Our waitress seemed irritated when I asked for a separate plate for my eggs and French toast. After that, she barely checked on us and didn't return until we were almost finished eating. By that time, my daughter had only a couple of bites left of her burger and finally asked for the sauce that was supposed to come with it. The waitress went to get it, only to return and inform us they were out. Why wasn't a substitution offered--ketchup, anything? Or at least a discount for serving a dry burger? I ordered the French toast, eggs, hash browns, and turkey sausage. The turkey sausage was completely bland, with no flavor whatsoever. The eggs were fine, but the French toast was soggy and unappetizing. Overall, this place is a no-go for us. While the check-in process and short wait time were nice, we spent $110 on breakfast, received subpar service, and ate food that left us unimpressed. Tried to eat here a few times but it's always a 2 hour wait so I never stayed but this time it was only a 45 mins wait so finally got a chance to try it out.. I suggest that you join the waiting list before heading over there to cut the wait time... we was seated and I ordered a pink flamingo mimosas while I waited to to order my food I got the Spanish frittata wit a Side of pancakes and turkey sausage links and I must say everything thing was good.. The service is here is wonderful this is one of my favorite breakfast spot's in the chino hills area and the owners are very friendly and nice can't wait till they open up the new location that's closer to my house but till then this is the place to be!!!!! read more

I had high hopes for this place after a couple friends recommended it. I ordered online and got the Loaded Avocado Toast at $14.99 and wanted fruit for my side so that was an additional $1.79. My husband got the Fiesta Chicken Salad at $15.59. We didn't order any beverages. The total with tax and gratuity came out to ~$40.00. When we arrived our food was ready. We had our dogs with us so we went to a nearby park to eat. My husband said the chips in his salad were stale so he took them out and didn't eat them. Other than that he enjoyed his salad including the dressing it came with. My avocado toast on the other hand was pretty sad looking. The menu mentioned that the toast comes with smashed avocado but it was more of a spread that was barely there. The bread itself didn't have that sourdough taste. My husband felt bad for me so he gave me his avocado from his salad. The fruit that I paid extra for wasn't that great. There was some bruising in the fruit and it also tasted old. I had the old Squeeze In bookmarked on my to-gos ever since my great experience at the Squeeze In in Carson City. Well, apparently they changed their name to Violet Rooster between the time that I bookmarked it and when I actually came here. Came here on a Monday afternoon, so there was no line whatsoever. Since I'm a sucker for eggs, I ordered myself a Cali-Shrimptastic omelette but also kept it healthy by requesting a side salad rather than my preferred crispy hash browns. Food was solid for sure. Plenty of eggs and shrimp in every bite. No complaints from me. Service was a bit slow for the amount of people that were actually in here. But everyone was friendly and welcoming. I don't know if I'll ever find myself in Chino Hills out of boredom. But good to know that Violet Rooster is a solid brunch spot. read more
