I've been to island thymes twice now, and both times it's been a wholesome experience. I like really liked their food, I'm always looking for good authentic Caribbean food and this one made it . I ordered curry chicken, black beans, baked Mac n cheese, some empanadas, oh and fried sweet plantains, and a cheesecake with guava sauce for dessert. It was really good, prices were reasonable, we were in and out fast and satisfies. I want to go back soon and try more. recommended

This place was way better than I expected! It doesn't look like much outside, but the food is packed with flavor. The server was super knowledgeable about the food and made the experience very welcoming and informative. The oxtail fell off the bone and the sides were fantastic! Definitely worth checking out in Orlando.

Hear me out y'all cause the pics do NO justice. All that needs to be said is 10/10 SERVICE, 10/10 GRUB, 10/10 MEMORIES. Definitely try it for yourself!! This place is amazing! If you are looking for some delicious Caribbean food I highly recommend this place. The server was extremely helpful and helped us figure out what we wanted to order. Definitely a place to check out.

These are not oxtails. They had so much oil and they were so watered down. No flavor at all.

My husband and I were very disappointed. With so many reviews and great images we wanted to try this place. Both our dishes were horrible. He had the snapper and had the oxtails. The oxtails were fatty, the gravy was so watery and lacked flavor. The rice was so hard as if it was cooked and just sat in a pot for a while. Our sons jerk chicken just had a marinade on the outside but after the first bite just tasted like regular rotisserie chicken. We drove close to an hour and we're so disappointed.

I found this place after looking around on Yelp and decided to try it for lunch. I'm glad I did! The place was nice with pictures of the islands on the walls and the service was great. I young guy explained the options between lunch and dinner portions and I tried the lunch jerk chicken and mac n' cheese. That mac n' cheese is bangin. The chicken was tasty and cooked well but the mac n' cheese stole the show. I was full but couldn't stop eating. I'll be back soon!

The food is DELICIOUS! So many things here are SO GOOD! Yum! The owner and chef, Vern Thomas , usually comes out to greet our family and check on how we like the food. I had wanted to like Island Thyme Caribbean Grille and had given it a try a couple of times, but have not been overwhelmed by their food. Perhaps it is me. When I think Caribbean food, I automatically think of Jamaican food. This a very generalized and homogenized version of Jamaican food and I understand the Caribbean is more than Jamaica. However, this is just my opinion and my overall feeling on this place and its food. The staff here is friendly and professional. The ambiance is pretty basic and nothing fancy, but that is okay enough. The jerk chicken here is okay enough. Nothing special, but nothing terrible. With it being in a shopping plaza, there is plenty of parking. It is in the same shopping plaza as the Walmart Neighborhood Market. I guess I can only give it three stars overall. The staff is friendly and all, but I was just hoping for more.

Island Thyme is a small local fast casual Caribbean restaurant over in the Avalon Park area. Their food is renowned in Orlando and has great review through many local publications. I've had the opportunity of coming here a few times now. The ambiance is one of a local shop that if you know you know, evidenced by the many to go orders that are placed. It's not too big, enough seats for maybe 15-20 people. Their food does not disappoint... I ordered the Jerk Chicken with rice and peas and the Jerk Salmon with rice and black beans. The jerk chicken was cooked to perfection, the perfect amount of spice and the inside still moist. The rice and peas fluffy and tasty to pair perfectly with the entrees. The salmon was amazing, cooked to perfection and juicy on the inside. The jerk seasoning hit it perfectly. I personally recommend eating there as this food just hits different when you have it fresh. Super good find in Central FL if you want some good Caribbean food.

Boy oh boy, today was my second time visiting this treasure and I am not displeased at all. I arrived to a nicely put restaurant. Nothing over the top, basic necessities and phenomenal Custer service. I was promptly greeted as I walked in. Today choice was a little dicey because I normally don't venture into all meat choices but I choose to go with the island beef and jerk pork tacos with a side of fries . Both were great choices, well season and very tasty. I'll be going back for the oxtail and fish taco. read more

Stunned! Unexpected travel had us in Orlando and we consulted Yelp for options. The tantalizing nature of the menu was supplanted by the actual cuisine!! Absolutely incredible. I had the shrimp & grits with a side of rice and beans. The sauce was off the charts (a house made lemon garlic pepper sauce). There was shrimp in every bite cooked perfectly. The owner "Verne" came out just as I was finishing up to check in and it really was just a cherry on top for an overall quality experience. WOWWW! The food is delicious and woke up my taste buds! I've driven by so many times and finally tried Island Thyme for dinner. What a gem, wish I had gone earlier and not missed out! I ordered the jerk chicken entree with rice and beans with plantains and some empanadas. The flavors were sooo good and fragrant.The portions were generous and I can't wait to try more on the menu! I'm pretty sure I could eat their food multiple times a week! And I don't usually do that! Jerk chicken is amazing. Stewed oxtails are to die for! Love the corn. Everything was simply delicious! My husband called the order in and we picked it up. The place is nice and clean. Our food was still hot once we got it home 10 minutes later and the flavor was out of this world! Stopped in for the first time yesterday night. Got the Jerk chicken and blackened fish entrees, along with some beef empanadas. Entrees were PHENOMENAL! Jerk chicken had crisp, well seasoned skin, and was super juicy. Blackened fish was fresh and delicious. The salsa on top went perfectly. Plantains were great. Rice and black beans were spot on. Everything from taste to portion size was fantastic. Still haven't tried the empanadas because I was very full from the entrees. I'm sure they'll be great too. Highly recommend! read more

This place opened up a few years ago as I was moving out of Avalon Park. Luckily I gave it a try before I left and enjoyed it then. I was happy to see they survived the quarantine period and stopped in during my jaunt to the old neighborhood. I ordered the oxtail entree, hubby ordered the jerk chicken and kids received the tropical grilled chicken. All of our meals were well seasoned and everything was cooked to perfection (not a dry chicken to be found). My husband also ordered an empanada to snack on while he waited on me to do some grocery shopping and the 2 year old wound up eating the whole thing (it was that good). We will definitely try to make it back more often to try other dishes. read more

This restaurant always gives quality food and service every time that I visit. I've gone to this establishment twice with two different people and it always gets a resounding 10/10. The food is served in a decent amount of time from placing the order and the presentation is lovely. Not to mention the food is as tasty as it is nice to look at. With the amount being paid I always leave with leftovers. The manager is both personable and shows that he truly cares about his patrons. It's definitely a hidden gem in Orlando that I think everyone should check out at least once. I guarantee that you will go running back! read more

Could easily be 5 stars but lacks 2 things. Fish sandwich was a tiny tilapia filet. Bread was amazing though. 2nd no house made hot sauce. Caribbean islands are known for this. The hot sauces they had were not even hot. Seafood chowder was half full and no seafood I could taste. So why 4 stars? Because the execution was there and mild food is probably catered to their demographics in Waterford. read more

Decided to give this place a try for lunch and it was wonderful! Very nice attentive staff and very tasty food. Our group got the goat curry, chicken curry, and island chicken for our entrees. All of us raved about and shared tastes of our flavorful meals. The island chicken has wonderful spice you taste throughout the meat. We also had plantains and yucca fries which were very tasty. My favorite was the seafood chowder as a side. The flavor and spicing were superb. Would definitely suggest to friends and hope to visit again soon. read more

The food was great, we catered for Labor Day and it was fantastic. The chicken is flavorful and very tender and well cooked. The plantains and the Mac and cheese were great also, but the highlight for me was the corn. It's sort of like Caribbean style elote, just awesome! I wanted to try this place after receiving a Restaurant.com certificate for free food. We were there with my wife around 8:30 PM and the place was very quite. We were received with a smile and since I personally didn't know how some of the items on the menu were prepared, I asked many questions and the answers were politely forthcoming. We chose our entrees (Island Shrimp Scampi and the Grilled Chicken and Ribs combo) and sides (like black bean soup, yuca fries, chowder, etc.) and paid to take a table and wait. Our food arrived quickly and by God, everything we tasted were simply awesome. Try it with mayo too and watch it transform into a vodka sauce looking stream of flavor. It hasn't been open long as of this review, but so far after 2 visits, the staff is friendly, the bread is fresh, and the subs are what you expect from this chain. If you like your subs thrown together and messy, hit the Wawa next door.
