Back story, I went to Firestone in December for a tire change and received excellent service. So when my check engine light came on the next month I decided to take my services back to Firestone. Horrible idea. They did a 'diagnostic assessment' on my car and told me I had a transmission issue that couldn't be fixed there since they don't do transmission work but couldn't tell me anything else (not even how they determined this). Couldn't even assist with local recommendations of who could possibly assist. So I paid $123 dollars for them to give me false information about my car. Now, although with 22 reviews (at the time of this review), I went to this shop and Paul told me that MY TRANSMISSION IS FINE and it was a cooler leak and fixed it in no time with the best price (Thank you Jesus!) Stopped by 1/25/22 to have my car looked at, car was jerking on take-off in first and second gear. Guy with long white hair and beard took it for a test drive. Came back with good and bad news. Good: Don't need transmission work. Bad: Need motor mounts and replacement of air intake hose. I'm convinced if I had taken it to a les experienced shop I would be looking at a new or rebuilt transmission. Offered to pay for the diagnosis but he declined to accept anything. I have a 07 328i BMW and took it in to Automatic Transmission Experts and met Paul. He was awesome! They were super busy but were able to help me out and give me some options. Told them what issue I was having, which was just constant slipping of gears and/or did not even change gears causing it to go into Limp Mode. They not only were able to accommodate and communicate with me constantly, the work done was perfect. After they did their work it was as if nothing happened. No slipping, no gear malfunction the car is running like NEW. I HIGHLY recommend to check them out, also they have a pitbull who is SO AWESOME! read more

Forgive the long post but i believe good service deserves every detail. It had finally came time for me to get my transmission rebuilt after feeling like i was rear-ended every time it shifted. I asked around a few places and was referred to Automatic Transmission Experts as the best place to go. I gave Paul a call and asked for a quote for a rebuild , which he gave me but he suggested i come in so he could diagnose the car and make sure a rebuild was what i needed. When i arrived i was immediately greeted by Paul who remembered our conversation (even the car, and trans type), who promptly grabbed his equipment and hopped in my car. He suggested a trans rebuild was imminent but didn't have a time frame. Low and behold the following week the trans gave out on me, and i had to limp it to Paul's shop. Paul was great and very knowledgeable about my trans, and exactly what parts i needed to rebuild and upgrade it. I added a few more parts to beef up the trans (off topic but i called a parts supplier and out of curiosity asked if they ever heard of Automatic Transmission Experts and he said Paul's name instantly and said he was the best i could go to). Paul had no problem installing those extra parts and finished in the time he quoted me which was only 2 days and the price was very fair considering the work that needed to be done. When i got the car back it drove like it did brand new. I was given a 1 year unlimited mile warranty which i will probably never use since i know Paul did the job the correct way. I would definitely recommend Paul and Automatic Transmission Experts to anyone in Arizona. read more

Don't waste your time with this shop, especially if you're a woman. It's a complete boy's club and they won't give you the time of day, especially Paul. I drive a 1946 Plymouth Special Deluxe and was referred here by another shop; "ask for Paul" they said "he's great". Between March and July, I called and spoke to Paul ten times. Not once he remembered who I was or what I drove when I called in. Not once he called me back. Every single time he told me to call back in a week, or two weeks, or we're ready to get you in here but we need another week. Totally f*cking wasted my time! Now my 1946 is in an even worse spot from having to wait. I even swung by there once to meet him in person which glad I did because the shop was a NIGHTMARE! Cares were uncovered, rusting, everything was trashed, only one car on a lift, and unorganized, and yes, I've been in shops before. Lied to my face he'd call me the next week. Never heard from him. Can't believe people actually trust this guy with their vehicles. Look elsewhere. read more

I accidentally locked myself out of my car with the engine running while picking up groceries. Paul drove by and asked if I needed help. Yes America, there are qualified mechanics out there that actually know their business, perform quality work at very reasonable prices and best of all, they actually care about your satisfaction!!! I had Paul build me a TH 200 4R for my 57 Chevy that was pulled from a high mileage Cadillac. Needless to say the trans was in rough shape but Paul gave me a VERY REASONABLE quote to completely rebuild the transmission with performance parts to handle 600 horsepower. The transmission was ready right on time and looked great. Shortly after installing the trans in the car, the torque converter failed and required a tow to Auto Trans Experts for repair. Paul took care of the issue right away and had me back on the road in no time. When you install a computer controlled transmission in a car that was built before the invention of computers, there are bound to be tweaks, modifications and adjustments necessary in order to get the trans to operate properly. Paul has the expertise and the patience of a saint and used all of his tricks to get the car to drive just how I wanted it to. Paul and his crew never complained about my "pickiness", always took extra measures to respect and protect my car to prevent any accidental damage (paint scrapes, fluid spills, etc) and they used innovative solutions to insure the performance and reliability that I was looking for. The transmission on my 92 Bronco (270,000 miles) began to "slip" on acceleration and then downshift hard. Found Auto Trans Experts on Yelp and was impressed with the positive reviews, so I gave them a call and spoke with Paul who invited me to stop by the shop. I expected to leave the vehicle but Paul immediately did a test drive. When he returned he popped the hood and did a quick diagnostic and determined that there was not a transmission problem but a speedometer cable issue. I asked Paul about the repair cost and he assured me that it would be "much less than a transmission problem", but it was a part not carried by the Ford dealer or parts store. Paul was able to locate a used replacement part at a local salvage yard, make the repair at a very reasonable price and my Bronco runs and shifts perfectly again. My husband got his diesel truck fixed here. He was having issues with the transmission. He took it to many other transmission shops around Phoenix, and each of them told him that he needed a new $4,500 transmission. He was selling the truck, and wanted to get the engine light off and the transmission fixed. The guy here (I forgot his name), was an older guy, who knew his stuff. He drove the truck, and within 5 minutes knew exactly what was wrong. It was only a $400 fix, not $4,500. My husband asked him if he was sure he knew what was wrong. He said that if he installed the part and the engine light came on and the car didn't drive great, he would give us everything for free. Sure enough, he was correct. The car drove great, and the engine light came off. It seemed like a new truck. Every other transmission shop was dishonest and trying to get an easy $4k+ out of us, and this guy was a genuine, honest guy. We've been taking both of our old clunkers to Paul for years for all our repair needs and can't imagine ever going anywhere else again.
