Last week, my trusty vacuum started smoking. I asked my most handy friend what could be the matter? She asked if I had the belt replaced before, and I replied "Vacuums have belts?" I was looking for a solid, dependable vacuum and came upon the brand Miele. Using their store finder, I found Singh at Virginia Vacuums. I gave him a call and despite the fact that his store was about to close (6pm) he told me he'd stay open late to show me some vacuums. From 6:15-7:00 Singh happily showed me every Miele he had walking me through the features and letting me test each one. We discussed the various features, pros and cons. I then stepped outside to call the wife to help me decide what to get and again he waited patiently during my call. Finally, decision made, I stepped in and purchased from him. He threw in 2 years free worth of bags and I was on my way a full hour after stepping in. I really appreciated Mr. Singh's level of service. As many others have said, he's been in business here for over 20 years and cares about each of his customers. He's a joy to speak to, he's knowledgeable and his wealth of information is exactly why I prefer to shop locally rather than use an online store like WalMart or Amazon. Avoid this place like the plague!!' First, the guy tells me when I call him that my vacuum can't be repaired and he "could get rid if it for me -"as a favor." Second, he calls me a few days later and tells me to pick it up and it is ready. Third, he charges me $124-about what a new one would have costed! I had a wonderful experience at Virginia Vacuums with a vacuum repair. Before I found the place, I took my vacuum to another shop, Vacuums Unlimited in Arlington. The problem with the vacuum was that the beater bar was not spinning. After Vacuums Unlimited tested my vacuum, they told me that the vacuum needed the motor replaced and that it would cost almost as much as buying a new one so it was not worth fixing it. Then they attempted to sell me a vacuum from their store. I decided to get a second opinion. Thankfully, I found Virginia Vacuums. Singh, the gentleman who assisted me, fixed the vacuum overnight. He told me that the belt was off and that some hair was stuck in it. He cleaned the vacuum and only charged me a cleaning fee. Great price, very fast and friendly service! I've already been running my vacuum all over the house and it's running great now! I definitely recommend this shop. read more

5 STAR experience and repair! I've had my shark bag-less vacuum for almost 10 years. When vacuuming a few broken pieces of glass from the rug, instead of properly sucking up the small pieces, my vacuum crushed the glass into smaller pieces resulting in crystallized pieces of glass all over our main family room area. I was ready to buy a new vacuum but wanted to try to repair (a much less expensive alternative). This place is AMAZING! The cord retracting device on my vacuum stopped working, and I brought it in here to see if they could fix it. It isn't a very expensive vacuum, so I was a little hesitant about what it might cost to get it fixed -- and had been putting off taking it in for repairs for months. I came in to Virginia Vacuums on a Saturday afternoon, and the owner took it in the back right away, and a few minutes later it was fixed. I asked what I owed him, and he said nothing. Even though it was a few minutes work I really appreciated this. You don't see this type of friendly small business too often these days. read more

What a great experience I had with this business! They are so honest, straightforward, competent and delightful. I thought that our 10 year old Dyson was DOA and I went there as a last resort, but after a quick assessment, they told me what they thought it was and how much it would cost to repair. Of note, they said if they were wrong in their assessment, we would only pay the basic service fee. These people are very trustworthy. Bottom line, I picked up my "good as new" vacuum 24 hours later, and it works beautifully. It is a joy to recommend such a nice business to others. read more

Terrible customer service! I stopped by to pick up a replacement roller belt (brought in the vacuum manual with model # to make sure I got the right part) and was tossed a belt by an employee that he said would fit. I installed the belt as directed, but once I turned on the vacuum it sounded like a helicopter taking off! Hoping that the belt would loosen up, I ran the vacuum over my small living room, and the noise stayed at the same ear-piercing level as before. The small plastic cover over the roller melted onto itself and onto my carpet. I called up this Virginia Vacuum location (Alexandria) to ask if they would take a look at the vacuum, and make any repairs, as it was caused by the belt they sold me. They insisted that it could not be the roller belt that had caused the damage, but something else with the vacuum (it was working perfectly fine before I installed the new belt thought!) I was told I could bring the vacuum in, but would be charged for the repairs! I would never visit this shop again, and will advise everyone I know to avoid them as well. read more

So not the cheapest service to fix my vacuum, but it's finally working again! Apparently I needed a new clutch and the clutch was $69 dollars, not including a $59 dollar labor fee. Overall a good experience. I debated whether to just go buy a new vacuum, but ultimately decided to have it fixed. Hopefully it will last, so that I can justify my decision. read more

When looking on their site for operating hours I noticed that they posted a "buy one box of any vacuum bags and get the second free"!! I could have purchased my Miele from another store but I wanted to do "the right thing" and buy from a local shop in my neighborhood. Mr. SIngh was so helpful when he was trying to make the sale, but when I took the vacuum back a week later because it was clogged, he acted like he was doing me a favor to fix it at no cost. He told me next time it will be $59 to repair. He could have just as easily shown me how to fix it myself. When I asked him if he could help me take the vacuum to my car, he reluctantly did so. He asked where my husband was and that it was my husband's job to tote the vacuum for me. I responded that it is his business and his job to help me with it. After spending over $500 for this vacuum, I wish I had purchased from another store or online. I am SO happy I found this place! I took my vacuum to be fixed, after procrastinating for weeks because I assumed it would be expensive, and just generally a headache. I was prepared to have to drop it off and come back another day to pick it up. Instead, I walked in at the end of the day and was greeted by the sweetest couple; the wife said "we have a patient!" when I told them my vacuum cleaner had stopped working, and the husband took the vacuum to the back room, where I watched him carefully take it all apart, fiddle with it a bit, and get it working again! $25 and fifteen minutes after walking in the door, I walked back out with a working vacuum cleaner! My husband and I learned the hard way that our existing vacuum didn't work on our new Smartstrand carpet. We came to Virginia Vacuum and ended up purchasing a Miele Delphi, along with the parquet brush and turbo brush. We had excellent customer service! Had some repair work done to my vacuum. Quoted me one price and when I picked it up, they tell me they did extra work I could pay for too. I surely didn't ask them to do any additional work. What am I supposed to do - tell them to undo the work?! I will never go to them again for sales or service and either should you.
