Julia was not sure of herself & was unable to answer most of my questions. I gave her grace as everyone needs to learn. She was being coached by the directer Charles, who I could hear in the background. Nonetheless, I confirmed the date & tried to contact them for two days straight to inquire who I make the check out to. There was two full days of unanswered calls. On 12/17 Charles finally returned my call to inform me the date Julia told me was available was actually not available. After sending out the tentative date to the family who are flying in from out of state. The Veterans Memorial needs to 1)Put someone responsible in charge of providing information & date look up 2) Have a valid system in place to include a basic email when they cannot answer the phone 3) Offer payments over the phone for people out of state would not recommend dealing with this non profit.

At $60 per person, I expected to enjoy a proper brunch with at least the option of seconds. The quality of the food was extremely disappointing--low-budget at best--and I wouldn't be surprised if they used powdered eggs. Our group was fairly large, yet we were split between two separate tables, and one of those tables was shared with a completely unrelated family. That just added to the awkwardness of the experience. If you're planning an event at this venue, I'd strongly suggest looking elsewhere. Not a single person in our group would return.

My wedding was relatively small- I spent months working on decor, planning etc but unfortunately the staff started to clean up and take everything down before 9:30pm (we had the venue until 10). This basically resulted in the wedding feeling very "over" when we still had a lot of time that we paid for- I would have loved to dance the rest of the night away but because everything was already cleaned up- people thought it was over. I was a distracted bride and didn't realize what was going on until almost every table was empty - the staff seemed like they were in a rush to go home. The most upsetting issue was earlier in the day, our coordinator from the venue did not communicate with my family which resulted in my grandparents sitting in the back of my wedding. I would like to emphasize we only had about 75 people, less than 10 of those were my blood family and my grandparents SAT AT THE BACK. I can't believe a venue could not handle directing the traffic of 75 people. SEVERAL of my guest approached me after the wedding to say they felt uncomfortable before the wedding from the treatment they were receiving. My wedding cake was also put out incorrectly which resulted in hideous holes on the top of my cake ( I wish I was kidding) . I am a very type B person, I tried to make this wedding as simple as possible and I was extremely let down by this venue. I won't even get into the $200 that went missing at my wedding that they didn't seem to find on camera. Simply don't get married here- take your money somewhere else. All you will get is a $100 gift card to a breakfast restaurant as an apology.

The venue has an old Victorian type style to it. Plenty of shade for those hot summer events. The area for the wedding is a short walk from the reception area. They have a bar and very nice bathroom area. It is hard to find a problem with this venue. You do have to drive over a narrow bridge that might stress some drivers. They include so much including the furniture and lighting, and we got a good deal on the dance floor. We chose this venue because it encompasses what we love about Visalia, with the greenery and the oak trees. Many of my guests have commented on how beautiful it was and thought it was very unique. The only concerns were regarding the bridge getting to the venue, but we did not have problems with it, and with getting our rentals out the night of the wedding, but it was easy to coordinate. The food was amazing, as we expected from Fugazzis. From the time of our tasting, we knew the food was going to be good. We had ample choices for our appetizers, the entree options were delicious and plentiful, the desserts were really good, and the late night tacos were a huge hit for our guests. Silvia was so helpful in planning the day. From coordinating with my vendors, to answering all of our questions, she helped the day go smoothly. She is very knowledgable and had good suggestions for our other vendors as we were doing our research. Overall, it was a great day, and I am so happy that we chose to have it at Victorian Garden.

I'd just happened to see a PBS special on Visalia a few months prior to my stay and learned of The Darling and its fabulous rooftop restaurant, Elderwood. I knew right away that this was the place for me. Delightful accommodations. Absolutely beautiful room - and bathroom! All the little touches make a big difference, like the self-serve coffee/tea/water bar and the in-room complimentary snacks and water. Don't miss the restaurant upstairs! I enjoyed an early breakfast my first morning there and dinner the next night. (See my separate review for Elderwood.) Never thought I'd say that I forward to returning to Visalia but I'll coming rushing back to The Darling when I do!
