I hate having to wear glasses, but it's what happens when you get old... I've been to multiple vision doctors and Visionworks is similar to them. I have VSP insurance, which they accept and it offers some additional perks/discounts I wouldn't get elsewhere. Setting up an appointment was a breeze, which I did online. When you walk in the joint, they greet you and send you the area you need to be in (i.e. I had an eye exam appointment so i was sent to the desk that handles that). There wasn't a long wait and the checkup was quick and easy. After getting all that done, I got handed off to a different person that helps with choosing glasses to fit your needs. They confirm your insurance and what coverage you get and advise of any pricing and options so you can pick and choose what you want. If you don't have insurance coverage or already used it, they also have specials they run. Took about 2 weeks to get my glasses, which is pretty normal. I came in and picked them up and they can make adjsutments for you to make sure they are comfortable from both a fit and prescription standpoint. They also give you a guarantee that allows you to swap out your glasses in a certain timeframe if they don't work fo you. Visionworks makes it easy so I'll continue to patronize their business for my vision needs. read more

Came here w/hubs to get his eye glasses and eye exam. Was able to book the eye exam online which made it easy. Arrived and he was taken back shortly after for his exam. I've been here previously for an eye exam when my normal dr. was overbooked and I needed contacts and they were slow, so this was an improvement. Glasses were ready in about a week and pickup was a breeze. The parking lot specific for VisionWorks is REALLY small + tight, however they are located in the Walmart parking lot so you could always park at WM and walk over. read more

This location has a machine that takes pictures of the back of your eyes to check for damage or concern without the need to dilate. The vision exam felt more thorough than other places I've been to, and I felt as if the doctor was ensuring I had the best prescription possible. I got a great pair of frames at a reasonable price a few years ago here, and just needed a lens update this year. I was able to take the vision exam and order new lenses for under $100 with insurance. I had a minor anxiety attack during the exam, and Wilany was very accommodating and supportive. She gave me ample time to recover before continuing, without making me feel pressured or rushed. I highly recommend this location for its vision exam, frame options, and the staff. read more

I had a good exam by Dr. Josh. He was a really nice guy, seems like he genuinely likes his job. Very good bedside manner. Also worked with the technician in the front office named Lindsey. She was great too. She helped me order my contacts and even readjust my glasses. Very helpful. The whole staff was very pleasant. read more

I went in for exam at the citrus park mall in westchase since my insurance was expiring soon and needed prescription for contact lenses and new glasses. One of my eyes is already blurry with my old prescription, but Dr wanted to lower both of my prescription. Dr did a very bad job in getting my prescription right in both glasses and contact lenses. Also they force you to get a photo of your eye, they don't let you decline, which is a waste because of you own money because they cant even see far enough on the photo as I was told by my prior Dr, expect to pay extra $$ for that. I asked to get both prescription changed and lady for glasses refused to do, she said I have 100 day satisfaction guarantee. Then she got mad because I did not find any glasses that I liked and refused to buy contact lenses since I can get them way cheaper online from walgreens with discount coupons. Rude people, except the assistant, he is the only nice person there. If you feel like you want to get your adrenaline a boost and raise your blood pressure this is the place for you, but if you want to be treated with the respect that a customer deserves and get and actual eye exam with your accurate prescription then RUN from this place. read more

I had a shockingly nice experience here today, this review is long because there was two portions. I haven't used my insurance and was struggling to find someone in network with Cigna and was directed to VisionWorks. I went online to schedule at night and found they had availability pretty early the next morning, Memorial Day. I booked early, and arrived early finding a relatively small lot. Although their private lot was small, it was adjacent to a business plaza with a Walmart and Publix so I doubt parking would EVER be an issue and lots of shady spots. I went in and was immediately greeted by Christopher M., he asked if I had an exam and directed me to the back. It was fairly cold inside. The woman at the front desk was helpful, she corrected the insurance information and gave me forms to fill out and took my IDs. I filled out the forms and was given my cards back and told that I could browse while waiting. I browsed and Christopher helped look up my insurance info so I had an idea of what to expect when shopping frames and considering lens pricing. I was seen about 10 minutes after my scheduled time but it all moved really fast from there with minimal downtime. Forms were gone over before anything was done and reviewed insurance copays for the exam. I told the lady I saw that I opted out of the glaucoma test and she didn't give me a hard time and did the distance test and scanned my glasses. After she directed me into the doctors room and performed some basic tests without machines using eye charts while I wore my glasses. I was left alone for no more than a minute before the doctor arrived. A younger guy with dreads came in, the doctor, and was extremely friendly and made me feel comfortable. We talked about my eye issues and I caught him up to speed, he helped me get a prescription both for every day use and for computer heavy use as I'm an accountant and full time online college student. I jokingly told him that although I opted out of the glaucoma test, I was treating it anyways as a medical cannabis patient. He not only found another tool to use to ensure I was in good shape although I didn't want the air puff test, he was supportive of my choices and didn't give me a hard time which I really appreciated. Not too often a doctor is supportive of their patients medical decisions (which hurts to say). He was amazing, 10/10. Just wish I had his name. After I got out, I was made aware I could browse while he finished my prescription. I was called over and given two scripts and checked out for the exam copay which was cheap enough. I've never had such detailed prescriptions given to me which was nice, much less pressure to buy there (but I did). I poked around and had absolutely no pressure to buy from salesmen but he was available if I needed help. I found a pair per prescription and Christopher came over to check on me and I was good to go. Really fast check out too. We chatted and joked around, and he helped me use a 60% off coupon for the pair not covered by insurance. Paid about $220 for two upgrades sets of glasses and one with more expensive frames. Overall, I couldn't have been in there for more than an hour. I was impressed by the friendliness of most of the staff, especially the doctor and Christopher. I don't think I've ever liked my optometrist or had a truly enjoyable visit. That, and it was SO FAST for an eye exam. I would recommend and look forward to picking up my glasses within two weeks from the store. read more

I purchased prescription glasses here after having an eye exam elsewhere. The first time I returned to pick them up, I must've been standing at the wrong desk (there are several), because two people walked in after me and were greeted and helped before i was helped. I have the same pair of glasses there that I've need to pick up for about two months, and I've gone there twice and left because I knew when I walked in I was going to have to wait at least half hour just to pick them up. This location is by my office, and I usually don't have that much time to spend waiting. I realize that's a personal problem, but there weren't many people in there - it just seems to always take that long...is this how it works at every glasses place? I don't know because I am new at losing my vision... Initially I wanted to return the prescription glasses I'd purchased from them....I'd purchased transitional lenses and after a few weeks my eyes were still unable to adjust (I was dizzy every time I wore them), but I kept putting off going back in there because I knew it was going to take longer than I could bear (patience appears to be a virtue that I do not possess), and I exceeded the 30 day return limit, so I ended up having the lenses replaced with single lenses for free instead (they allow 100 days for that). Now I'm not sure I'll ever go pick them up, because it just takes so long. I reached out to their online chat and requested they mail them to me, but apparently I wasn't chatting with a human, and when my chat session was forwarded to a human, I don't think they read the text because I received a generic email response about a week later that didn't address anything I requested in the chat. I'm not losing enough vision yet in my life to want to endure this new process. read more

I understand mistakes happen but how we recover sets companies apart from one another. I purchased two pairs of glasses on 5/4 and told my sales person I would be out of town for a couple of weeks but would pick them up when I returned. I spent over $1000 and when I returned only one had arrived. The second pair was sent to a state where I had purchased my previous pair. I told "Eddie"that I was leaving town and would be in a different city. He told me that he would contact the other store and have them sent to the other store. "He said he would contact me" and confirm it! I did not hear from him so I called back the next day and spoke to Rebecca. I was told Eddie did not do what he told me and ordered me a new pair of glasses and the would be sent to my new location. I said STOP I was returning to Tampa. I couldn't understand why he didn't do what he promised and now it was going to be 10 days and they were going to the wrong store. After speaking to Rebecca I was promised they would go to the Tampa store. Well 10 days passed and I got a text message and a phone call that my glasses had finally arrived. Exactly 1 month since I ordered them but they went to the WRONG store again! As luck had it I was in the second location so I was able to finally get them. Long story short...If they communicated with me I would have given them a five star. My experience involved 4 trips...multiple calls...and inaccurate information. Too many other companies to choose from that offer more professional customers service. If you are a new customer I suggest you move on! read more

Ravi Makati is not the optometrist you want to visit. Trust me on this. When I ordered glasses from another place based on the results of the exam with him I literally could not see. I went to two additional optometrists and both gave me a different prescription than the one I received from Ravi Makati. I brought proof and asked for a refund of the not insignificant cost of the exam and he refused saying that the other doctors were wrong, he wasn't. The store said they wouldn't make good because the doctor was an "independent operator." They were validating a bad exam. I asked them what would have happened if I had ordered the glasses from them (very expensive) but that it turned out the exam was incorrect and essentially it would have been the same thing. Nice F-ing job, Vision works! Why not broach this IMPORTANT FACT when setting appointmenT? Saves time and money!!! Too logical! My brother just had VA eye check up (with dilation) last month! I had an appointment at 10:15 which I was told was one of the first appointments of the day. I saw the technician at 11:00 and the doctor at 11:15. I made it clear that I only wanted contact lenses but multiple times I was told while I waited I could spend that time looking at glasses. The same person made this comment after I said I was only here for contacts. The technician did a good job going over insurance coverage and options prior to my exam beginning. The doctor was wonderful and spend a lot of time trying to get my prescription for contacts fitted properly. The Doctor made a follow up appointment the next week to see how the trial contact was doing before he released the prescription. The follow-up appointment was quick and easy and they did not pressure me to purchase contact lenses from them. It was very easy to schedule an appointment, I called in a Saturday and had an appointment on Monday morning. read more

I just relocated to tampa and needed new glasses. Thought I could get a better pricing scenario with a large company like visionworks. Not the case, however. The frames were overpriced even though a diverse selection. The cost was exorbitant, but I needed the glasses so I opted for two pair for over $600.00. Plus the eye exam of $85.00, it was almost $700.00. Never paid this much before but I was desperate. The OD was professional and so was the staff. The only good news is that the glasses were ready in 10 days. That was also a first. Good experience with staff, but too expensive. read more

Every year I get my eyes examined This year I had lost my back up glasses, that I wear to yake a break from contacts. I was surprised at how good and knowledgeable the optromitist was. He had a great manner and I feel I got a very thorough eye exam. I just wanted a cheap pair of glasses for a back up. I had many choices that were only $40.00 including the lenses. The girl that took the mrasurements, was friendly and professionsl. No judgement on the cheapo glasses. Just good service. This place is DIRTY and UNSANITARY. The sink in the contact lens area looked like it hasn't been cleaned in ages. Stained and gross for a place offering services in the medical field. The whole place was sad and dingy.. The people who work retail were extremely rude and condescending. I would never give them another dime of my money. Never have I ever had such a bad experience at an eye appointment. I will say that the optometrist, himself, was very nice. The reason I am stating I had a bad experience with my eye exam is because the whole thing felt like a cattle call. They were out of my contact lens prescription, so I did not even get to try on my prescribed strength because they did not want to order it!!! Made an appointment for 3. When I checked in, I was told I would have to pay a co-pay which was incorrect. My spouse had been there last week and paid a certain amount. We have the same insurance. My quote was double. The receptionist then told me she would call the insurance company to confirm. As I watched, she didn't really proceed. She socialized etc. I saw her call about 20 min later. In any event, she told me the price would be the same as my spouse. I was then taken to the exam room. By now an hour had elapsed. I was getting a little annoyed so i asked how much longer it would be. I was told another 45 min to an hour. When I had arrived, I was the only one in the waiting room. Now I saw people who came after me being seen before me. Their excuse was that the doctor had a late lunch, that's why I have to wait another 45min to an hour. Ok so first of all customer serivce sucks. They let you sit, you wait 10 minutes then you are helped by someone who doesn't know nothing (I had a discount for Vision Works provided by my health insurance company)... Anyway I went to my health insurance provider, got my discounts printed and wanted to buy a pair of frames and lenses. When they told me how much it would be I was shocked. Even with a discount it was super expensive and actually the best deal you can get with them is buy 1 get 1 but the catch is that you get second pair of frames for free so you still have to pay for lenses which are super expensive. I don't recommend them. Even if you don't care about the price you won't like customer service they provide. read more

After perusing the selection which was OK, we sit down to go over the insurance details, figure out her contact lens situation and all that really fun stuff. Long story short the girl who helped us did not really know what she was doing when calling the insurance company or even how to bring things up on the computer to get things through. Bottom line: I would never recommend this place. First, they did a dilated exam on me and didn't provide me with plastic/disposable sunglasses to drive. It was so bright I could barely see while driving. Second, they didn't provide me with a pupillary distance measurement, ensuring that I cannot use my prescription anywhere else. Extremely unethical business practice (apparently it's not outright illegal, but it should be). Being a physician myself, I never leave negative reviews about health care providers because I know how tough the job can be. However, in this case, business has clearly trumped optimal patient care. read more

Have you ever lost a nose piece from your glasses and wondered where in the world to take them to get them fixed? Especially if you are not close to the location where you purchased the glasses. I was in for a surprise when I visited Visionworks on North Dale Mabry. I walked in and was immediately assisted by Ariel M. She took my glasses, replaced both nose pieces, cleaned my glasses and sent me on my way in less than five minutes. And the cost was a smile and zero $. Wow, that truly is service with a smile. Purchased four pairs of classes between my Wife and I and they came in within their specified 10days. It wasn't until I went to pick my one pair when the young lady who assisted me, I found her to be short and rude. She provided me the glasses and when I put them on By partially removing my mask to see if the fit right. Right away she snap by saying I had to put my mask on without any consideration at all when I advise her that I needed to see how they fit. I understand her point of view but it was the way she told and then further advise I had to go outside to try them on. Again it was her way of talking to a client follow by laughing as I walked away. If you want to waste your money and mostly your time go to visionworks, or else go else where. I had purchased a warranty on my daughter's glasses. Here we are, my daughter broke her frame and it's been 2 very long weeks since I called them, and my daughter still doesn't have her new frame. Apparently they didn't have it in store so they had to have it shipped from Washington DC. Now, it takes less to ship packages to Italy. From previous experience I know they don't call you when your glasses are ready. So I every other day I've been calling and they keep you on hold for 20 minutes at a time. They are ridiculous. Also what they don't tell you is that when you have to replace your lenses or the frame on top you have a copay of $20. read more

I came back to Visionworks after a few years of not coming (didn't need glasses for awhile). I was hoping it would be just as great as an experience as the first time. Sure enough, it was even better than the first time! I came by to find a new pair of glasses with my twin babies in our double stroller. When I showed up at the door, Thomas was nice enough to run over and open the door for me. He greeted me in such a kind manner. I was already left with such a great impression of Visionworks. When I was trying on glasses he made comments like, "those look great!" Or "I think those frame your face better!" It was nice to have the extra feedback, especially since I didn't have another adult there to help me out with my choices. Thomas was always making time to speak to all of his customers, and it showed that they were a priority. I even noticed that there was a small issue with another customer and he handled it very professionally. The transaction process was also a great experience as well. I wasn't sure if I was going to purchase the frames that day, but Thomas helped me out with questions I had, and I ended up being able to purchase them. Overall, I would highly recommend Visionworks to everyone! I love it here and plan on coming back for all of my frames/contacts. read more
